the column is 125 wide... and does leave a scroll bar at 800x600 on some screens... most notably the reply and post new topic screens. I'l see if I can make some adjustments here and there Upcoming template changes will improve the look of that whole section as well 
Edit: made some adjustments, but it won't get much better without either adding the graphic to the upper right (preferred) or removing the "U" in the upper left (which I'd prefer we did not do).
