I just installed the JC's compact header from ubbdesign -- over about 6 other previous hacks.

In case you have other hacks installed, as Allen suggested elsewhere, use Beyond Compare (www.scootersoftware.com) to carefully go through which part are from original files and which are new changes.

Ok thanks waiting for your return. Thanks again.
Posted By: MrBill Re: Compact Headers [6.2.1] - 02/23/2002 9:57 AM
Ok, Nemesis, this might be getting a little off topic, but here's the answer to your question. This will add Active Topics link to your Main Buttons line through out your board.

In ubb_lib.cgi
quote:
Find This
# Forum Home
push(@items, qq($vars_wordlets{forum_home_link}));

Then right under it add this

# Active Topics
push(@items, qq($vars_wordlets{active_topics}));

Don't forget to clear your cache. I left it up on my test board so you can see it, but I'll be taking it off later, seeing how I don't need the link there.
Posted By: Galipabi Re: Compact Headers [6.2.1] - 02/23/2002 1:13 PM
this might be useful but rather than giving the whole files to upload the text should be given which files to be modified. so ppl could learn what they're doing while hacking... if possible i request the hack text file of hack details... tia

Posted By: Charles Re: Compact Headers [6.2.1] - 03/07/2002 11:43 AM
Allen, I found a few glitches :
  • In pntf the location is missing under the 'hello' table
  • in user's profile (public page) the send PM links appear twice, once under the hello table and once over profile table
Posted By: lauren Re: Compact Headers [6.2.1] - 03/07/2002 4:04 PM
Can't you edit all the files by yourself. Because I installed some hacks where I edited the templates.
Posted By: strizate Re: Compact Headers [6.2.1] - 03/11/2002 4:14 AM
Works well, I've done the necessary editting to include things that are missing, however the private messages ignore/buddy list seems like there is a table error or something.

Anybody else had this problem?

Allen, could you please post how you did this - Show topics from last 10 | 20 | 45 | all days.

I have reached my limit on this and just can't figure it out.

Sure, it's all hard-coded for that page, just do a "view source" here and give it a shot smile

Couple Questions

1. How is Custom Footer 621 coming along?
2. I want to make it so that it looks like this

before:

hello speedy spike {log out} home faq IM ect.

after:

Hello: Speedy Spike [Log Out} DATE
FAQ HOME ATHOIRYT ECT

in other words add a new "line" and put the date where the links were before and the links on their own line

can this be done?

Hellooo?
Can somebody please post a readme file, so that I dun have to override the hacks... Anything will do. I mean, I'm a assuming it'll be the same code in every file?

Posted By: LK Re: Compact Headers [6.2.1] - 05/02/2002 2:30 PM
It would be a little complex - use beyond compare smile
Posted By: » Joker Re: Compact Headers [6.2.1] - 05/02/2002 2:58 PM
Ooookay... Erm, what does that mean? smile

I dun care if it can't be done, just would be nicer if it could... That way people could install it rather than overwriting it and installing all the hacks again

Posted By: Jamin Re: Compact Headers [6.2.1] - 05/02/2002 3:37 PM
What you do is use Beyond Compare to compare your current template files with the Compact Header template files. That will point out all the differences between them, so you can just move the CH2 stuff over into yours.

Because there isn't any readme file for this except the little one included in the zip. There are just WAAAAY too many changes to document without it getting hella confusing. I can almost guarantee you, though, that just using my templates and re-adding your hacks to them will be faster than adding CH2 to your hacked templates. As I've said many times before, this is meant to be installed on a clean board!

Can CH2 be directly applied to UBB Classic 6.3 without halting the rotation of the planet? tipsy
Posted By: AllenAyres Re: Compact Headers [6.2.1] - 05/12/2002 10:07 PM
Not really, there are lots of changes, mostly small ones, in the templates from 6.2 to 6.3
Posted By: stardaug Re: Compact Headers [6.2.1] - 05/13/2002 6:52 AM
well poop n stuff. I'm using one of the JC templates now and it's actually compact enough for me. Will we ever see a UBBDev template addon in an official Infopop release?
Posted By: mark99 Re: Compact Headers [6.2.1] - 05/13/2002 8:18 PM
I think AA said in the contest thread above that he'd release it in a couple of weeks for public consumption, I'd certainly like to use it =).

No idea about inclusion into official UBB releases.

Actually... the base public templates in the ubb are all courtesy of ubbdev:

charles (of course wink ), matt jacob, LK, and I were the ones who brought xhtml compliance to the forefront of forum software. In a year's time, most all forum software will at least take a stab at xhtml compliance as they try to catch back up to us. I can remember posts by web developers complaining about the not-so-good html output from the ubb, that's a thing of the past.

A little geeky, but a very good thing, as all templates built from now on out can rest assured that they will look as close to the same across all browsers as possible smile

As far as the future, we hope to have some more input in the not-too-distant future smile

on 6.3.1.1

I took the public_xxx files from the hack (https://www.ubbdev.com/db/uploads/compactheaders63.zip) and put them in the the UBB/Templates and I also put them into Templates/JCT Templates folder.

I get this error when I try to access my forum.
Quote
quote:
Software error:
Undefined subroutine &main::MainButtonOptions called at ultimatebb.cgi line 146.
What do I do wrong?

Should I replace both Templates and JCT Templates files to start with?
Does anyone have a step by step HowTo for dummies?

Thank you.
Posted By: AllenAyres Re: Compact Headers [6.2.1] - 10/15/2002 7:42 AM
I am not sure if these work with 6.3.1.1, sounds like you are where the mainbuttons were pulled from one file and put into public_common.pl They'll really need to have a full going over before I'd use them on a production site.
Posted By: Felix 10 Re: Compact Headers [6.2.1] - 10/16/2002 3:04 AM
Allen,

it obviously works flawless here on a 6.3.1.1!
the living demo is right up above!

was it you installing it in here? if it works in here should work anywhere else, shouldnt it?

thank you,

We're using something quite a bit different, tho they appear similar smile
Posted By: Felix 10 Re: Compact Headers [6.2.1] - 10/16/2002 6:19 PM
I see. I thought is the same thing once you made a reference to the looks of Compact headers to this site.
Is strange how people wont help around...I saw so many 6.3.1.1 compact headers around and nobody would say a word.
Same for other hacks. I have been trying to find PM Inbox, nobody would post an active link for download even though so many people around uses it and have it. I guess help is provided in fix-things bases but not for the real downloads.
Is this normal? Excuse my ignorance, I am just a newbie, I though all of us being administrators on our end would help the other friends in the same branch.

Thank you

It's a matter of time smile If you are familiar with Beyond Compare and want to update this, we'll be eternally grateful smile

No Allen I am not. Can you brief me in a few words?
I would also take the advange of talking to you and ask you a simple stupid question.

I did a lot of reading around but couldnt find any reference to, perhaps ony because its to obvious? smile

Question was: all hacks come in two versions- for JC Templates and no JC Templates. I know there is a folder JC Templates in the of UBB/Templates directory but what exactly are these JC Templates and how can I tell if I use them or not. I am running under 6.3.1.1 with no hacks, as plain as it comes.

I apreciate your help, thank you.
Posted By: AllenAyres Re: Compact Headers [6.2.1] - 10/17/2002 7:44 PM
here's the article:

https://ubbdev.com/db/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=3;t=000019

JCT are part of the v6.3 ubb as alternate template sets to choose... you can choose them to give your forum a different look. Most modifications do not have support for them (you can add it yourself if you have time). I would recommend against putting a lot of time into them unless you do not plan to update to 6.4 when it's out smile
Posted By: Felix 10 Re: Compact Headers [6.2.1] - 10/18/2002 8:36 PM
I see now. I dont think I use any of those JC Templates, and yes I will upgrade therefore JC Templates are OFF for me.

I read about Beyond Compare, awsome tool!
I should buy it or I could get a copy around?

Thank you Allen.

humm I'm getting

Error including required files:
Make sure these files exist, permissions are set properly, and paths are set correctly.

all I needed to do was upload these files over the ones in template right?
