Name: Compact Headers Full
Description: Tightens up the headers of the pages, works well if your forum logo is in your header, not in the forum itself.

Thank you, Allen!
(I swear, T2 is NOT vaporware!)

now the active topics thing is gone and others are gone as well.
I just installed the JC's compact header from ubbdesign -- over about 6 other previous hacks.
In case you have other hacks installed, as Allen suggested elsewhere, use Beyond Compare (
www.scootersoftware.com) to carefully go through which part are from original files and which are new changes.

everyone's taste will be different, you can add the active topics link into the top set of links next to faq | forum home | etc

:p this is just a start...
compact footers is next, unless you've already done that part and can release it seperately

This is my answer to the taste thing. Jamin helped me out on these.

that looks nice mr bill how u have all the options at the top to organize it. But can u give me like a walkthrough on how to get the Active Topics where the
my profile | register | search | faq | forum home | calendar
Can u tell me how to get it in ther esome where?
I'll be happy to. I have to run to work right now and I don't get home till 2AM CST. I'll post when I get home.
Ok thanks waiting for your return. Thanks again.
Ok, Nemesis, this might be getting a little off topic, but here's the answer to your question. This will add Active Topics link to your Main Buttons line through out your board.
In ubb_lib.cgi
quote:
Find This
# Forum Home
push(@items, qq($vars_wordlets{forum_home_link}));
Then right under it add this
# Active Topics
push(@items, qq($vars_wordlets{active_topics}));
Don't forget to clear your cache. I left it up on my test board so you can see it, but I'll be taking it off later, seeing how I don't need the link there.
this might be useful but rather than giving the whole files to upload the text should be given which files to be modified. so ppl could learn what they're doing while hacking... if possible i request the hack text file of hack details... tia
Hey i am installing it now to test it out. I will post back when done. There is nothing confusing about this to me so...........lol.
thanks worked greta man. Thanks alot. One more thing do u no wher ei can get the vars worlets mods installation for 6.2? Can i just use the 6.1 one?
Cool, installed using the templates provided...
I like the look and everything... but where is the new topic/reply buttons?!
Oh, and also, in the new poll form the $standard_title_table wraps around the form. Sorry if Im' annoying.
yes i no i saw many of the changes. I am missing the email a buddy thing and i cant put it back for some reason. But i got it the way i like it. I moved buttons and sutff and it looks great.
Thanks, I was looking for something like that.
Hello!!
I use ubb 6.20, Firtsly I install "Side bar" after I used crack of "compact headers", finally when I added "multihack and bevelcells" but it is useless!! Why do you Know???
http://www.plat-forum.org/deneme/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi
ummm.. it works, what problem are you seeing?
Do anyone have a compact footer for ubb621?
~Speedy~
Allen, I found a few glitches :
- In pntf the location is missing under the 'hello' table
- in user's profile (public page) the send PM links appear twice, once under the hello table and once over profile table
Can't you edit all the files by yourself. Because I installed some hacks where I edited the templates.
Works well, I've done the necessary editting to include things that are missing, however the private messages ignore/buddy list seems like there is a table error or something.
Anybody else had this problem?

Sure, do you need the info that needs to be added ?
Allen, could you please post how you did this - Show topics from last 10 | 20 | 45 | all days.
I have reached my limit on this and just can't figure it out.
Sure, it's all hard-coded for that page, just do a "view source" here and give it a shot

Thanks, I'll look at those today
Couple Questions
1. How is Custom Footer 621 coming along?
2. I want to make it so that it looks like this
before:
hello speedy spike {log out} home faq IM ect.
after:
Hello: Speedy Spike [Log Out} DATE
FAQ HOME ATHOIRYT ECT
in other words add a new "line" and put the date where the links were before and the links on their own line
can this be done?
Hi all.
My question is for MrBill
I'd like to know how to had the post button and the line "Show topic from..
Also how did you make to put the Ubb friend Print page and all the other post button in the threads header !
Thanks !
Can someone please post a readme as i don't want to override my templates
shot..now the reply and new topic on top are gone. Have to scroll all the way down to the bottom in order to use those 2 buttons. Is there a way i can add it on top too?
WhiteBlade
Sorry it took so long to get back to you, I sent you a PM with the answer.
Thanks there was no hurry hehe !!!
Can you tell me how your
» work ??? I don't really understand it clearly yet
Hellooo?
Can somebody please post a readme file, so that I dun have to override the hacks... Anything will do. I mean, I'm a assuming it'll be the same code in every file?
- Joker
It would be a little complex - use beyond compare
Ooookay... Erm, what does that mean?
I dun care if it can't be done, just would be nicer if it could... That way people could install it rather than overwriting it and installing all the hacks again
- Joker
What you do is use
Beyond Compare to compare your current template files with the Compact Header template files. That will point out all the differences between them, so you can just move the CH2 stuff over into yours.
Because there isn't any readme file for this except the little one included in the zip. There are just WAAAAY too many changes to document without it getting hella confusing. I can almost guarantee you, though, that just using my templates and re-adding your hacks to them will be faster than adding CH2 to your hacked templates. As I've said many times before, this is meant to be installed on a clean board!
---Jamin
Can CH2 be directly applied to UBB Classic 6.3 without halting the rotation of the planet?
Not really, there are lots of changes, mostly small ones, in the templates from 6.2 to 6.3
well poop n stuff. I'm using one of the JC templates now and it's actually compact enough for me. Will we ever see a UBBDev template addon in an official Infopop release?
I think AA said in the contest thread above that he'd release it in a couple of weeks for public consumption, I'd certainly like to use it =).
No idea about inclusion into official UBB releases.

Actually... the base public templates in the ubb are all courtesy of ubbdev:
charles (of course ), matt jacob, LK, and I were the ones who brought xhtml compliance to the forefront of forum software. In a year's time, most all forum software will at least take a stab at xhtml compliance as they try to catch back up to us. I can remember posts by web developers complaining about the not-so-good html output from the ubb, that's a thing of the past.
A little geeky, but a very good thing, as all templates built from now on out can rest assured that they will look as close to the same across all browsers as possible
As far as the future, we hope to have some more input in the not-too-distant future

I do!!
Your best bet would be to use beyond compare for the changes... check out the review/how to in the past uzine on the front page

I tried, and fail with that hehe, I just screwed it and over wrote my old files now I have to rehack my template files but I still can't find the new post option in the top bar whats wrong?
Suggestion: public_forum_page.pl
------------------------------------
replace:
-------------------------------------
sub topic_table_header {
my $this_html = qq~
$vars_wordlets{moderated_by} $Moderator $more_topics_wording $vars_wordlets{show_topics_from_last} 10 | 20 | 45 | all days |
------------------------------------
with:
-------------------------------------
sub topic_table_header {
my $this_html = qq~
$vars_wordlets{moderated_by} $Moderator

$more_topics_wording $vars_wordlets{show_topics_from_last} 10 | 20 | 45 | all days

Anybody else have problems with headers being called twice and screwing up the layout on transition pages, like the Thanks for Posting, and such, as called from public_common.pl ?
Anybody else have problems on transition pages, with the main buttons line and so forth loading twice, and messing up the entire table structure ?
on 6.3.1.1
I took the public_xxx files from the hack (
https://www.ubbdev.com/db/uploads/compactheaders63.zip) and put them in the the UBB/Templates and I also put them into Templates/JCT Templates folder.
I get this error when I try to access my forum.
quote:
Software error:
Undefined subroutine &main::MainButtonOptions called at ultimatebb.cgi line 146.
What do I do wrong?
Should I replace both Templates and JCT Templates files to start with?
Does anyone have a step by step HowTo for dummies?
Thank you.
I am not sure if these work with 6.3.1.1, sounds like you are where the mainbuttons were pulled from one file and put into public_common.pl They'll really need to have a full going over before I'd use them on a production site.
Allen,
it obviously works flawless here on a 6.3.1.1!
the living demo is right up above!
was it you installing it in here? if it works in here should work anywhere else, shouldnt it?
thank you,
felix
We're using something quite a bit different, tho they appear similar
I see. I thought is the same thing once you made a reference to the looks of Compact headers to this site.
Is strange how people wont help around...I saw so many 6.3.1.1 compact headers around and nobody would say a word.
Same for other hacks. I have been trying to find PM Inbox, nobody would post an active link for download even though so many people around uses it and have it. I guess help is provided in fix-things bases but not for the real downloads.
Is this normal? Excuse my ignorance, I am just a newbie, I though all of us being administrators on our end would help the other friends in the same branch.
Thank you
It's a matter of time
If you are familiar with Beyond Compare and want to update this, we'll be eternally grateful
www.scootersoftware.com - we have a tutorial in our ezine under articles
No Allen I am not. Can you brief me in a few words?
I would also take the advange of talking to you and ask you a simple stupid question.
I did a lot of reading around but couldnt find any reference to, perhaps ony because its to obvious?
Question was: all hacks come in two versions- for JC Templates and no JC Templates. I know there is a folder JC Templates in the of UBB/Templates directory but what exactly are these JC Templates and how can I tell if I use them or not. I am running under 6.3.1.1 with no hacks, as plain as it comes.
I apreciate your help, thank you.
here's the article:
https://ubbdev.com/db/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=3;t=000019
JCT are part of the v6.3 ubb as alternate template sets to choose... you can choose them to give your forum a different look. Most modifications do not have support for them (you can add it yourself if you have time). I would recommend against putting a lot of time into them unless you do not plan to update to 6.4 when it's out
I see now. I dont think I use any of those JC Templates, and yes I will upgrade therefore JC Templates are OFF for me.
I read about Beyond Compare, awsome tool!
I should buy it or I could get a copy around?
Thank you Allen.
humm I'm getting
Error including required files:
Make sure these files exist, permissions are set properly, and paths are set correctly.
all I needed to do was upload these files over the ones in template right?
