Allen:

I downloaded the above file thinking it was a Hack MOD with a .txt file, but discovered that it contains a lot of .pl files. How do I utilize/implement these files? help
Posted By: Charles Re: Compact Headers 6.5 - 03/20/2003 2:38 PM
upload these in your template directory but make sure to do this on an unhacked board (otherwise all templates modifications done by hacks will be lost)

of course make a backup beforehand smile

AA, I have it installed on my forum here:

http://norcalcycling.com/forum/ultimatebb.cgi

Seems to be a few display bugs on the Forum Summery Page. Any idea how to fix it? Check the "Topics" "Posts" "Last Post" and "Moderators" columns.

Thanks man... great hack. I've been waiting for this one! laugh

Allen, I hate to ask, any way of getting say a multihack for those of us who have already modded the hell out of our boards?

I only briefly looked at your source but it seems that while your Post Indicators, Topics, Posts and Last Post columns had assigned "width" percentages to it your Forum and Moderator columns do not. More than likely you'll need to define the width for these two.

The other possibility would be that since you're using a 820px width you may need to define the columns not by percentages (5%), but by absolute intergers (10px). smile

hmm, ok, I'll chech that out. Thanks PT. Silly me, I just dropped the files into my DIR and left it at that. smile

I should be able to use %. Is it only the "public_forum_page.pl" and "public_forum_summery.pl" that use the tables?

Thanks!
Posted By: AllenAyres Re: Compact Headers 6.5 - 03/22/2003 2:56 AM
PT's got it right smile I hadn't counted on people using fixed widths smile

Gizzy, I don't have one made - you can use Beyond Compare to add the changes in if you like, it's most every public .pl file at the top except the public_common.pl file where it's in several places. smile
Posted By: Stilgar Re: Compact Headers 6.5 - 03/22/2003 2:59 AM
Thanks AA. So: "public_forum_page.pl" and "public_forum_summery.pl" are the only files I need to modify?
Posted By: AllenAyres Re: Compact Headers 6.5 - 03/22/2003 3:12 AM
the summary page should be the only one you need to modify to get the widths on those columns straight.

hmmm... I left out the 'days pruned' links for the forum page. I'll need to fix that. I'd recommend setting it in the cp to 1000 or 'show all' - it makes the site look busy for slower sites and saves bandwidth for all sites because the cache gets hit more often (thereby loading the pages using the phpaccelerator). I think I'll go that way and add the instructions to this to make it do that from the start. It will keep the forum page cleaner up top smile
Posted By: AllenAyres Re: Compact Headers 6.5 - 03/22/2003 3:16 AM
ok, updated instrcutions up top, you'll need to use this:

Posted By: Stilgar Re: Compact Headers 6.5 - 03/22/2003 4:51 AM
woohoo... I think I got it. Now to install the 'days pruned' thing setup.
Posted By: AllenAyres Re: Compact Headers 6.5 - 03/23/2003 5:48 AM
how'd it go? It'd looking good so far smile
Posted By: PrimeTime Re: Compact Headers 6.5 - 03/23/2003 7:59 AM
Yup...It is looking good Stilgar. smile You got the aligment working now. smile
Posted By: Stilgar Re: Compact Headers 6.5 - 03/23/2003 9:36 AM
Thanks guys. I still need to do the same thing to the Forum categories and topic lists. Which files are they? "public_forum_page.pl"? What other one?
Posted By: AllenAyres Re: Compact Headers 6.5 - 03/23/2003 9:39 AM
that's 98% of it smile
Posted By: Stilgar Re: Compact Headers 6.5 - 03/23/2003 9:59 AM
LOL, thanks.

Hey AA, PT or other knowlegable people. Where might I look to fix these two little bugs:

http://norcalcycling.com/forum/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum;f=1;DaysPrune=365

the tables widths. What file has them.?

at the bottom the post folder key doesn't show all the symbols.

only running this hack (compact headers).

TIA!

in the icon legend table? everything looks good to me tipsy
Posted By: PrimeTime Re: Compact Headers 6.5 - 04/04/2003 11:23 AM
Looks fine on my browser as well. I'm not on 6.5 but I think that the "Legend" icons show up dynamically. This means that when a new folder or sticky icon is used (by a post) your Icon Legend will reflect those changes. smile
Posted By: Stilgar Re: Compact Headers 6.5 - 04/22/2003 9:35 PM
any chance this hach will come out of BETA? I'd like a version without the bugs. Maybe some day? laugh

Thanks!
Posted By: AllenAyres Re: Compact Headers 6.5 - 04/22/2003 10:42 PM
shazzamm! It's not beta anymore tipsy

What bug(s) are you referring to James? I'll whack a few of'm smile
Posted By: Stilgar Re: Compact Headers 6.5 - 04/23/2003 12:42 AM
just the columns at a set % and maybe I was hoping the "Days Pruned Mod" would become part of this one. laugh

Oh... and on my board the bottom of the table is black where the footer is during the post transition and on the FAQ page. I'm not sure that's really a bug, but it isn't perty. smile

Posted By: AllenAyres Re: Compact Headers 6.5 - 04/23/2003 5:16 PM
that's the way it's supposed to look tipsy

ok, I'll get this done today smile
Posted By: Stilgar Re: Compact Headers 6.5 - 04/23/2003 6:57 PM
You rock! ROCK! laugh
Posted By: AllenAyres Re: Compact Headers 6.5 - 04/23/2003 9:46 PM
tipsy

I've got the faq bugs worked out for the most part:
https://www.ubbdev.com/test/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=faq

I am thinking the column %'s will need to be set individually. Those columns will vary depending on which ones you have showing, what you select to show in them, and whether or not it's fixed or liquid in width. 'Fixing' it for one could easily break it for several others smile

I'll add the dayspruned and update files later today smile
Posted By: AllenAyres Re: Compact Headers 6.5 - 04/23/2003 10:04 PM
OK, zip updated... let me know where you find bugs. I haven't done the transition pages yet... they aren't gonna be fun tipsy
Posted By: PrimeTime Re: Compact Headers 6.5 - 04/24/2003 1:30 AM
I hear that Allen. laugh For myself the transitions, popups and error pages were probably the most time consuming files to edit for the Header, Footer and Body widths. If I recall correctly the Search error differs from the Login error. smile
Posted By: drkknght Re: Compact Headers 6.5 - 04/30/2003 5:57 PM
hmmm....

i opt to not display the mod colum on the forum summary, however i like the way they're displayed on ubbdev.com on the forum page

but in the download, there's no code for the mod line on the forum page (right?)

what do i need to add to get that nifty "moderator .. page #" line atop my topic listing?

sweeeeet, got it! thanks lk!

for anyone interested, in public_forum_page.pl, find:

Code
[/code]and replace it with

[code]

Is there an easy way to remove the spacing between categories? I love this hack but the spacing makes keeping everything uniform a chore. Most likely it's just removing a $TBT or whatever that was
Posted By: Ian Spence Re: Compact Headers 6.5 - 05/10/2003 8:33 PM
Bump, also, did anyone else have the problem with your footer shrinking into the main table when you had "This post has been posted, please wait..." I'm not sure if this was fixed in a later release or if I was the only one who got it.
Posted By: PrimeTime Re: Compact Headers 6.5 - 05/11/2003 4:13 AM
Looking at the code you could eliminate the separation between categories by removing a
inside the "$cat_spacer" code...By doing so however will give you an unwanted line left by the unattended $TBT and $TBB tags. So do this:

In public_forum_summary.pl find:
Code
[/code]And remove:
[code]
That should do it. smile

hey Allen, I've been porting my css templates to compact headers and am having a problem. my $TopicPageTotal has a line break before it, but it's not in the template, meaning it is in a cgi file. What code do I modifiy to remove the break?

EDIT: haha, last place I though to check was the wordlets tipsy thanks anyway

I installed this, but it doesn't appear to have done a thing, even after repeatedly clearing the cache.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Anyone..?

Did you reassign areas to the new template set?
Posted By: tgreene Re: Compact Headers 6.5 - 08/14/2003 6:29 PM
I looked, but it doesn't show any new templates being available...
Posted By: Charles Re: Compact Headers 6.5 - 08/14/2003 6:32 PM
is the name of the folder you added the templates in the same than the name appearing at the top of public common?
