Is there a hack to add "fields" to a new topic, like the posts to the Released Hacks forum here??

I have a forum for collecting data about pathology on marine organisms, and I need the users to provide consistent information, so I would like to have a set of "fields" that they fill out when posting a new topic.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Well, it is very very very very hard to do it, let alone on a forum by forum basis.

But that would mean that there is a way to do it... right?

Anything worth doing is difficult, eh?

So does it already exist, or do I need to code this thing myself??
