How can you register when there is htaccess :rolleyes: I haven't seen SpAwN around, someone could've placed that htaccess on purpose...

I am registered on Spawn board have been for a logn time and It doesn't work with my User Name and pass. Have no idea whats wrong with it.

It does not matter if your registered on his forums, you cannot even get to his web sites.

It's either his server is down, or He has locked his forums and maybe moderationg his web site and pages and closed the site while he is doing it.

No, I dont think he's closing for a new design. If so, he would have informed us earlier. I think the hosting server he's hosting in have changed something or maybe intentionally closed his Forum. Spawn is currently busy, we didnt see him in his board talking for a week. I would assume he even doesn't know his board is inactive.

Aveaq posted a topic in Chit Chat and SpAwN did reply to it. Go check it out it's on the first page of the list. He said he was busy and he would get everything back up eventually.

It's because he has only uploaded the pages and hasn't changed the links or anothing they all lead to the old host.

yes and altering the path in your address bar doesn't produce results.

i can get to where individual hacks are listed but then the hacks themselves arent there.

I SMS messaged him, and he didn't reply....

I hope someone mirrors the hacks on his site when it goes back up so when this happens again, we still have them available.

Perhaps they can just put a Spawn's Board link under the Database since nothing in there works anymore.

Techinally, it isn't. Infopop only endorse UBBDev for UBB6.xx hacking, Spawn'y specialises in the old UBB5.xx.

Technically, no-one is supposed to host any modifications, we (and only we, as far as anyone knows) have permission from IP to operate as a repository for them.

If you'll check your license agreement (especially the couple of sentences dealing with modifying your ubb), you'll see what I mean.

Technically the ONLY thing IP can deny people to host is UBB sourcecode.
ANY other peace of code everyone can host on their site as long as that code is not copyright protected by the coder, or the hackcoder himself has not specificaly denied one to host it.

Ofcourse everyone understand that IP wishes it was otherwise, but it isnt.
So lets stick to the truth and the facts

And I dont challenge the facts of what is said in the licenseagreement.

My point is that it is perl code, or whatever code used, and IP dont own Perl code.
Neither I beleve anyone has been convicted in a court of law for hosting perl code that has something in common with the sourcecode of UBB.

Actually I dont host anything at all, I just prefer the facts, and not this-we-all-belive-becourse-someone-said-so.

It is true, we can only limit hacks sites IF they have any Infopop code used in a hack. Or IF they use the name Ultimate Bulletin Board™, or UBB™ or otherwise use or refer to or infringe upon an Infopop copyright or trade mark. That means any instructions that include our code. That means any hacks that has a piece of our code. That means any advertising of the hack that refers to our name.

Wanna bet there is a hack site out there that doesn't do one of the above? I'll be the answer to that is none.

Furthermore Infopop Corporation only endorses UBBDev for Ultimate Bulletin Board hacks. Period. Notice there was no version number listed in that statement? It is not our decision to limit UBBDev to 6.x nor is it our concern to do so. That was a decision that UBBdev made and while I feel it was a good decision I couldn't really care any less if they were doing hacks back to version 3.

I'm assuming that you start your UBB scripts with the shebang line. Theoretically, they look something like #!/usr/bin/perl. That's a line from your script. So... I'm ripping you off if I modify that line to #!/usr/bin/perl -w? It's a line of your code.

Why, by golly! Imagine all the mailing and USENET posts that have promoted turning -w on. They're all stealing your code and infringing your intellectual property!

From the discussion, it looks like I could create a hack site called "Code for the Remotely Good And Sadly Microsoftian Bulletin Board". And then I could include instructions that say "replace line 17 of the file that authenticates users with this one instead".

"Call Me Ishmael". I change that to "Call Me Morbus". Infringement? Not at all! print "UBB";. print "RGASMBB";. Infringement? Not at all! Also, the license makes no mention of the data file that UBB creates - and we all know that comments posted on boards are owned by the commentor itself. So, your license doesn't prohibit me from creating a hack that reads the data files and then modifies then.

Hell, if the only thing that would make a hack site legal would be not mentioning your name, and not posting your code (either raw or as part of instructions), then sign me up - I'll be more than happy to host one.

Quoting has very little to do with the your legal obligations under the license.

There are no sites, other than UBBDev, that are authorized under the UBB license agreement to post code modifications that may be applied to the UBB source.
