It's not like White's version. Thanks to White and XPerT.

Name: UBB™ Thinking Clock.

Description: Shows a ticking clock with both UBB and local time.

Link: Text File or MultiHack File

Demo: http://www.lkubb.dns2go.com

Requirement: UBB™ 6.2.0 Beta Release 1.0

To get it to work with 6.1.0, just remove &Template sub and instead of %%stuff%%, use "+local+" or "+server+".

hey I've already go that
Posted By: Mijae.2756 Re: [6.2x] UBB™ Thinking Clock - 01/26/2002 11:16 PM
didnt work on 6.1.0.3, going to try again...
Posted By: Mijae.2756 Re: [6.2x] UBB™ Thinking Clock - 01/26/2002 11:19 PM
in public_forum_summary.pl, the java script edit creates a conflict with the lightbulbs, and they wont show up, same for the clock.

Could someone please adapt this hack to UBB6.1.0.x? Its a good hack, but I cant seem to make it work on 6.1.0.3...

Hi, I tried to install this, but it won't show up. I only get 1 border and error's on the page. For a link, its http://www.animegamerz.com/ultimatebb.cgi .

Also, how do I get vars_wordlet_mods.cgi to be reconized?
Posted By: LK Re: [6.2x] UBB™ Thinking Clock - 01/28/2002 2:45 PM
Don't use +2 in the GMT offset, use just 2 (without the +).
Posted By: Hedwig09 Re: [6.2x] UBB™ Thinking Clock - 01/28/2002 10:32 PM
Ok, I've done that and it still doesn't work. I think its the Clocks border, but I can't tell...
Posted By: LK Re: [6.2x] UBB™ Thinking Clock - 01/28/2002 10:37 PM
I don't know if it matters, but you accidently pasted it twice:

Ugh, nope, that doesn't do anything... I'll start all over hacking it.

Remove the 2nd instance of:

ugh, I know I probally sound annoying, but how do I do that? I've rehacked it and it still doesn't work...
Posted By: LK Re: [6.2x] UBB™ Thinking Clock - 01/28/2002 11:02 PM
Open CP - Style Templates - choose template - Footer. Try to cut everything there, if it works, paste and tell me it works, if not.. hmm.. paste and tell me it doesn't tipsy
Posted By: Hedwig09 Re: [6.2x] UBB™ Thinking Clock - 01/28/2002 11:07 PM
Yeah, that worked. I deleted it right away though because it didn't look to good, but it did show up.

Lk,

I installed your hack on a clean 6.2 and the time does not show up. I placed the offset in the control panel but that only lets the light bulbs be shown. The time area is still a thin line?

I finally got it. I see alot of people are having problems with the same thing one way or another. I don't know exactly what I did but it was the hardest time I ever had updating the mod wordlets file. Every time it kept emptying it out. I finally got it to go through. Nice Hack

Hi Lk,

Sorry ot bother you again. I now removed from public_forum_summary.pl:

quote:

my my $option1 = &Template($vars_wordlets_mods{time_localboard}, {
USERTIME => '"+local+"',
SERVERTIME => '"+server+"'
});

my $option2 = &Template($vars_wordlets_mods{time_current}, {
TIME => '"+local+"'
});

And replaced the %%stuff%% in vars_wordlets_mods.cgi quoted below:
quote:

'time_localboard' => "Your Time: %%USERTIME%%. Board's Time: %%SERVERTIME%%",
'time_current' => "Current Time: %%TIME%%",

to:

'time_localboard' => "Your Time: +local+. Board's Time: +server+",
'time_current' => "Current Time: +time+",

Is this correct?

Thanks

Rainner

No, use '+stuff+' (with '')
Posted By: Destiny_nova Re: [6.2x] UBB™ Thinking Clock - 02/05/2002 2:51 AM
i don't know if this is correct but i replace

thelement.innerHTML = (local != server) ? "$option1" : "$option2";

with

thelement.innerHTML = (local != server) ? "Your Time: "+local+". Board's Time: "+server+"" : "Current Time: "+local+"";

it's seem to be working ok on 6.1.0.3
Posted By: Mijae.2756 Re: [6.2x] UBB™ Thinking Clock - 02/05/2002 4:43 AM
LK, the javascript that you ask to add the public_forum_summary.pl creates a conflict with the lightbulbs. If I separate the scripts in two and lightbulbs work, but the clock still wont show up.

I am trying to install this on ubb6.1.0.3...could you help me somehow?

I'm having the same problem as Unnamed. Lights go away and the clock dosn't show. I thought it was because I wasn't getting the previous problem corrected properly.

Posted By: LK Re: [6.2x] UBB™ Thinking Clock - 02/22/2002 12:16 PM
You mean in an input box? The best way to do it is instead of %%STUFF%% in the Wordlets, add . That's not so efficient, but changing the code might cause problems.
Posted By: The Mic Enforcer Re: [6.2x] UBB™ Thinking Clock - 02/23/2002 2:30 AM
Yeah i want it in an input box, if i'll change that in the wordlet it'll do it like on netwerkin?
or i need to change stuff in the code too?
Posted By: LK Re: [6.2x] UBB™ Thinking Clock - 02/23/2002 8:52 AM
It should look the same (except the background color, but you can add 'style="background-color: #color"' or something like that into the tag), however Netwerkin uses a better code because they modified templates... But with Wordlets you can change it back/to something else from the CP, so I suggest you to change it there...

I'm having a odd problem. Installed the hack and it seems to display and work fine. (6.2.1 beta 1) However, the display shows 'My time' and 'Board time' to be exactly 12 hours apart (AM vs. PM) The time on both the workstation and the server are set correctly to the current time, but still the AM/PM switcheroo.

I went to the server and changed the system time to AM from PM and cleared cache but the problem persists. I'm thinking I hacked it wrong, now.

Any help is appreciated. This one's a real noodle scratcher for me...

LK, this is a great hack. I want the output right under the login/logout but it's now in it's own table.

How can i do this?

The GMT offset on our board isn't correct i guess. wink

You set GMT offset to 6... Shouldn't it be -6?

Yes, it should. I read the post about not needing the '+' sign in front of positive offsets and naturally assumed that you wouldn't need a '-' sign for negative ones either.

Some days I think I should get checked by a doctor....

Thanks for the help,

Posted By: CNA2 Re: [6.2x] UBB™ Thinking Clock - 02/27/2002 8:08 PM
Anyway I can add more than 2 times? I.E try to make my own modification for private use? Do I just have to add the (for example:)

CP_VARS_TIME:

&RegField("Australian Time Zone Offset", "AUSOffset", "", "3", "4", "Same as above, but the offset from AUS. Used in UBB Thinking Clock.", "$vars_time{AusOffset}");

CP_LIB:

my $AUSOffset = &SmallClean($in{AUSOffset});

and

'AUSOffset' => $AUSOffset,

VARS_WORDLET_MODS:

'time_localboard' => "Your Time: %%USERTIME%%. Board's Time: %%SERVERTIME%%. Australian Time: %%AUSTIME%%",

But I have no idea what to do with Public Topic Page, if infacxt, the above is correct....

Any help? Or is that so far right? I'm a newbie, help appreciated....
Posted By: LK Re: [6.2x] UBB™ Thinking Clock - 02/27/2002 8:11 PM
No need for it.
Posted By: CNA2 Re: [6.2x] UBB™ Thinking Clock - 02/27/2002 8:48 PM
I don't understand..... do you mean YOU think there is no need for it? Or there actually isn;t any use for it?

Because regardless of YOUR choice, I don't wish to be cheeky, its great hack, but I'd wish for a few more times on it...... so everyone know what time it is in a certain place, being the topic of my test forums, its pretty essential I have this, if you can;t help me, fine, just say.

Thanks for any further help, C.
Posted By: LK Re: [6.2x] UBB™ Thinking Clock - 02/27/2002 8:51 PM
I mean there is no need to hack cp_vars_time.pl and cp_lib.cgi. Australian Time == always +10, regardless of the server time.
Posted By: CNA2 Re: [6.2x] UBB™ Thinking Clock - 02/27/2002 9:05 PM
So how do I add it as well as the other times? You see LK, what I mean by my private addon, is try to replicate kind of World time hack, so there is various times. Not just the ones included/can be shown. I.E. the third world countries etc.

Sorry if I sounded a bit stressed over last post....kinda had a bad day, sorry mate smile

I have the same problem, and I've isolated it to the fact that the "onload" portion isn't showing up in the html code. Could you please check this portion of the modification:

ubb_forum_summary.cgi - the modifications to that file

Because that's where I believe there is an error.

installed without a hitch.

I would also like to know how to modify the layout so that i can display each time within different cells of a table.

If thats not clear take a look at my home page. I want to left align "Your Time" and Right Align "PTCO Time"

Ive attempted to insert the necessary html directly into the mod wordlet but it generates the errors with the lightbulb javascript so many people seem to have trouble with.

Although I do have News Fader installed, I would like to use the ubb_forum_summary.cgi approach, rather than the fader.js approach.

Now, I did try it.. But, it didn't work. And that's probably the very reason why you give the 2 different approaches. Unfortunately, my understanding of why.. is zero. Thus, the silly question. wink

Why do I want something so silly? Quiet a few of our users use Netscape or Opera. And fader.js does not load/run in either of those browsers and, of course, the clock doesn't load either.

Thanks..
Posted By: LK Re: [6.2x] UBB™ Thinking Clock - 03/16/2002 4:48 PM
I think newsfader works in Opera/Netscape, and if it doesn't, so you can either make your whole site work with Opera - remove newsfader, or make it not work with Opera - leave newsfader/ubb thinking clock alone.

Erm.. sorry my intent wasn't to say or even suggest that this hack or News Fader didn't work.

They are both good & fully functional hacks.

I've probably made some sort of mistake in the implementation or something.. I did post to the News Fader topic a while back. But, it wasn't answered. I certainly didn't mean to cause any trouble, I was merely looking for help. Thus the PM suggestion. Sorry.

No trouble, you should post if you got a problem smile

I'm only saying that it should work if you'll install with fader.js, and if it doesn't, gimme the URL with both newsfader and ubbthinkingclcok and I'll try to use Mozilla on it.

Aca, blame the menus. Don't ask me how to fix it, just search for 'onload' in the JS files, and when you'll find it, in that sub add GetTime();.

Extra information..

I do now have the clock working with Netscape. The problem was not with Netscape.. But, it seems to be with Sun's JRE (1.2 & 1.4) that I was using with Netscape (the very same JRE that I use with Opera). The problem with the clock is Sun's JRE specific. The problem with the News Fader is seen in both Opera & Netscape (regardless of which JRE is used).

Should I post the error that Sun's JRE produces?

Thanks..

What might help:
1 Clear cache using cp-->Maintenance
2 Set offset value using cp-->Date and time settings
quote:
GMT Time Zone Offset:
Same as above, but the offset from GMT. Used in UBB Thinking Clock.

3 Change your own time-zone (local)

You used "'++SERVERTIME++'", "'++USERTIME++'" and "'++TIME++'" instead of "%%SERVERTIME%%", "%%USERTIME%%" and "%%TIME%%". That means, %% instead of ++ and NO ''.
