is it the problem for letting Unregistered users to post and reply?
I can't tell what version you are runnig since you have removed the copyright notice. Please add it back before we give you assistance.... thanks.
You can't get assistance here unless your copyright is put back in... thanks for understanding, but you are violating the license agreement and could cause problems for ubbdev if we assist those who do.
oops...
let me put it back..
Hack works Great ..it's working perfectly on my forums ..thanks Guys
It says to edit PUBLIC_FORUM_PAGE.PL and PUBLIC_TOPIC_PAGE.PL but cannot find any such files - Am I looking in the wrong place???
[ March 18, 2001: Message edited by: SpearsLover ]
those are in your templates folder, and are in lowercase there...
thanks q_ware, let me know when you are ready...
you're welcome planet, tho slurpee, qasic, and leshrac did most all the work.
Got the cause of the bug.
If an unregistered user reply the msgs, the forum will die.
PS, I'm still finding all the places to re-add the copyright... >_< (I deleted too much)
all the more reason to make everyone register... they don't have to wait for a password if you don't have email verification turned on, but it's always a good idea to have them register...
Works great for me ^^^^^^^^^^^
Gotta love this easy modding UBB6 code
TotalNewbie
Hello, I have a question.
How can I modify the main page, that the link goes to the last post, not only to the last answered topic?
such like this hack
i have a problem all i have checked if i did copy it good in al the 3 files
but still this error
Content-type: text/html
Software error:
Illegal division by zero at D:/webserver/wwwroot/~test/cgi-bin/ubb_forum.cgi line 337.
For help, please send mail to this site's webmaster, giving this error message and the time and date of the error.
can somebody tell me?
i know it's not a error from me ( hehe i hope )
Grtx
I have only installed this once, so I can't say for sure that it is 100% bug-free, but it installs very straight-forward, there's nothing difficult about it at all. This one is explicitly for ubb 6 gold, so if you are running on beta, it's gonna be different in some places and is unsupported.
You might check to make sure you haven't copied over a } or sometrhing, or left one out... it is most likely an install problem.
Could it be because of the corrupted zip file that infopop released in the "first few hours"?
worth a shot
works like a charm! made some minor cosmetic changes.. but it's the hack that I've missed the most.. Thank you thank you thank you!!
hey KodoSan can you point me how you have put all the info in one line ?
i was playing with this today & i havent figured it out,i droped the idea after 10 min
Search the instructions for
and delete it
Or if you want the exact code, its in ubb_forum.cgi in the following code you added in:
$last_post_username = qq!
$vars_wordlets{last_reply_by}:
$last_post_username!;
Only other change I would suggest, although cosmetic, is to modify the words "Last Reply by" to only "by" in vars_wordlets.cgi. Since the column already says Last post, its redundant and makes forums really wide and double up on smaller monitors.
Mine reads:
03-21-2001 00:52 by: Username
rather than
03-21-2001 00:52 Last post by: Username
thx Tim for the Tip & keep up the good work with 3dfiles
edited my post to say that it worked great & its exactly what i wanted
[ March 21, 2001: Message edited by: Abyss ]
I noticed that the "Pages: 1 2 etc" are located below the subject in this forum. How did you achieve that?
I suppose it's only a
tag, but where does it go?
oh sure. leave it to TIM to steal my glory..lol. It's back to tweaking the boards eh bubba!!!
I just wanted to say a quick "thank you" to the author of this hack. It was my single most favorite hack from UBB5.x, and now that I've got it in 6.0, I'm happy.
Kudos!
Yes, thank you. This works wonderfully.
Infinite
... could you plz make an update for UBB 6.01 ?
To update for 6.01 just change the first step in the instructions to:
I think, I haven't tested yet but it seems to be the only difference
EDIT > This works fine on my board
I've split the code a bit to make it easier to read the rest of the posts in this thread, both blocks should be single lines, don't ya just love the way UBB6 does that

Grr, Ben. How about some carriage returns in that code block?
didnt work right for me in 6.01. last username came up fine, but right above the each members name was some code, I forgot what it said. I know I should have wrote it down!

Content-type: text/html

same error with the correct zipper ( without crc ) v 6.0 No beta,so hmm what is the problem?
[ March 22, 2001: Message edited by: PsxBasement ]
I am seeing a bug that was in the version for v5 as well. Say you have your threads limited to 25 posts per page. With this mod installed, whenever you get to 24, it links to the next page (that isn't there) instead of the correct one. This happens when the thread gets to 49, 74, 99, etc.
Allen, I found that problem too and fixed it.
If you replace this:
With this:
Problem solved!
[ March 23, 2001: Message edited by: Slurpee ]
Can somebody update the primary hack files and install stuff with the latest fixes, thanks.
slurpee could you copy and paste it in a text file when i grab the solution i cant paste it in the cgi because then it come's out strange and not correct.
thnx.
Wizkid
I'll have this updated on the website tonight.
PsxBasement, the quick and dirty way would be to save the HTML. Open up in your favorite HTML editor. Copy and paste from there (it always works for me
) for proper formatting.
q
the easiest way to get his code from off this page is to click on the "edit" button in his post... just copy and paste from the text box....
File updated with bug fixes and to version 6.01 (Link on first page).
I updated the format of the instructions too, if you guys don't mind following it pretty closely in the future, consistency in formatting will help the newbies..
Allen: Seems to be a problem with this bit of code, causing a software error:
# begin last post hack
if ($last_post[1] eq "000000"){
$last_post_username = "";
}
else { $last_post_num = &GetUserNumber($last_post[2]);
# get latest public name for latest post replier!
my @user_profile = '';
if (-e "$vars_config{MembersPath}/$last_post_num.cgi") {
@user_profile = &OpenProfile($last_post_num);
chomp($user_profile[15]); chomp($user_profile[0]);
$last_post_username = $user_profile[15];
if ($user_profile[15] eq '') { $last_post_username = $user_profile[0]; }
}
else {
$last_post_username = $last_post[2];
}
my $total_posts = $total_replies + 1;
my $page_num = '';
if ($total_posts > $vars_display{HTMLDisplayMax}) {
my $total_pages = int ($total_posts / $vars_display{HTMLDisplayMax});
if ($total_posts % $vars_display{HTMLDisplayMax}) { $total_pages++; }
if ($total_pages > 1) {
$page_num = "&p=$total_pages";
}
$last_post_username = qq!
$vars_wordlets{last_reply_by}:
$last_post_username!;
}
# end last post hack
Inserting the old code (even though there is a bug) makes it go away. All code was inserted properly.
More specifically, that posted fix by Slurp isn't functioning...
This one might belong in beta instead of finished. I am also getting errors with ubb 6.01
Amy
I just attempted to install this hack on my UBB 6.01 and I keep getting this error:
Place it in the Primary Wordlets under Page
s.
Error confirmed and fixed.
in ubb_forum.cgi find:
if ($total_pages > 1) { $page_num = "&p=$total_pages"; }
}
add below
}
That's it! Updated docs will be available on qasic.com later tonight!

Thanks qasic, text file updated as well...
Hey Allen,
Did you add the fix here? Because the bug is occurring here ... it chose page 3, and topic #49 which obviously didn't exist since t was on page 2!
qasic
We are waiting on borg to finish the who's online before we upgrade, so we haven't upgraded or done anything yet. I didn't want my fiddlin with it to mess with his work. He has been uplodaing and downloading pretty fast and furious the last few days...
worked great and was easy to install. thanx
hm, i installed the mod for ubb 6.01. if a thread is more that 2 pages long and i click one the latest reply, i come to the first post of the thread. any suggestions? i downloaded the newest version ...
I have the fix but I can't document it because my code is different now than what is being used currently.
Is this mod safe to install right now on UBB 6.01?
Or do some fixes still need to be made?
Slurpee, why don't you test out on the Beta forum then? It may good to get it into the public for some testing!
Yes, the newest version on my site is v6.01 compatible!
q
no, it doesn't work with multiple pages.
It seems to work with multiple pages on this thread quite well, I haven't actually seen the problem you're all complaining of. The 'who's online' hack is a good example of it working.
ok,,my two cents. I have UBB6Gold and found the following
That was it for now unless i find anymore with it.
[edit; sorry had to shorten this because it screwed the thread with the long statement.
[ March 27, 2001: Message edited by: Subzero ]
any one got a fix yet for the multiple page problem.. clicking on the user name in the forum brings me to first post in that thread. hmm hmm. ? Otherwise it works fine.
Guys, look at Allen's first post in this thread, he has a link to the hack in the database. I just checked and that file does contain my fix in it, so follow those directions and see if that does it.
True, the link in the first post is the latest...
We still have the minor glitches here, and will have until we upgrade to 6.02 this weekend...
My bad.. I tested it again and it does work..
is all i can find in ubb_forum.cgi - i have ubb 6.0, and nothing shows up, i have installed it all correctly. but it doesnt work, my url to board is:
http://cncrev.virtualgn.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi please take a look, and help me out. i really need this hack, thanks.
[edited to help my vision - sorry]
CNCR you have to clear your cache for it to work.
Amy
well..duh! i've did that like 50 million times...
like i said, the code above is all i could find close to what is stated in the Readme.
i have 6.0. not 6.1!
How can I add this hack to the main forum view also? Like it was possible in previous UBB versions.
if im not mistaken, its already displayed on the main page...
[just wanted to mention, that this hack worked fine. just installed and upgraded together with my other webmaster a 5.44 board to 6.01, installed the icon-hack as well as the who is online-script and everything works like a .. well, you say.. charme? i'm absolutely happy
- thanks for doing a great job here @ ubbdev.com!]
chris
Yes but I don't want those topics to be displayed. Only the person who has done the last post.
Works great in my 6.02 update done just now. Thank you for the great hack, which is one of my favorites!
[ March 31, 2001: Message edited by: Redshift ]
hm, try it with multiple pages, then tell us, if it works or not.
Yah, just found the error. Oops! Is there a fix for this yet?
nope! allen said that he will check it as soon as possible.
Yea clicking on for example the last post by users username when the topic is 3 pages long it just takes ya to the 1st page.
v6.02

Confirmed.
This does not function properly in 6.02.
Could someone tell me how to add this to the front page. I removed the topic links that came with the UBB6 but I would like to add the text that shows who has posted last.
~polite bump~
Sorry not having this problem. You guys can go to this forum on my board, there are a couple 3 page topics and they go to the right place, and yes this is Version 6.02.
http://www.vhforums.com/cgi-bin/vhlforum/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum&f=12
I just wanted to asy that I have the same problem with the multipages ...
I'm using UBB v6.01
- Roodah
It's working fine for me as well. I am on 6.02
Amy
Guys DOUBLECHECK you are using the code from Allen's first post in this thread, it DOES work!
hm, Slurpee ... strange. I've installed it, i think, 5 times, and yes i took the file from Allens first post. It doesn't work for many people.
Ok guys, now we know why it doesn't show the correct pages: The script doesn't hop into this query:
if ($total_pages > 1) {
$page_num = "&p=$total_pages";
}
Don't ask me why! The funny thing is, $total_pages equals sometimes more than 1, but the loop gets not executed. I checked it out with a simple print "$total_pagesn"; - it does not show any values. When I set the print-command above the if-block, it prints out the correct number of pages. It seems that anything isn't ok with the if-block. But what? I don't see any wrong things in it ...
- Roodah
[ April 03, 2001: Message edited by: Roodah ]
Ok, I think I have it. In Allen's version, the
if-block I writed I my last posting is out of the
if ($total_posts > $vars_display{HTMLDisplayMax}) { ... }. And that's the cause of our problems. $total_pages is defined with a
my-definition, so out of the
if ($total_posts > $vars_display{HTMLDisplayMax}) { ... }-thing $total_pages = 0! There are 2 ways to fix the problem:
1st Delete the
my out of the
my $total_pages = int ($total_posts / $vars_display{HTMLDisplayMax}); or
2nd set the
if ($total_pages > 1) { ... }-block into the
if ($total_posts > $vars_display{HTMLDisplayMax}) { ... }-thing.
I used the 2nd way, so my code in ubb_forum.cgi is:
- Roodah
[ April 03, 2001: Message edited by: Roodah ]
[ April 03, 2001: Message edited by: Roodah ]
Can anyone else verify this?
q
it's better than that. You don't need this line at all:
because, if the number of posts is greater than the max allowed per page, there is GOING to be more than one page.
I removed it a while back and moved the page number code into the main if block. It's been working like a charm.
Amy
Ok, that exactly must i change, so it will work correct.
Thanks, amy! Can you post exactly what the new snippet of code looks like so we don't err on making the changes?
please... added back here does show the error...
I commented out all three lines, amy, (the if statement and opening and closing braces) and the behaviour does not change.
Any other ideas? Perhaps a fix to the source code, so that I can re-download it? Or even better a quick "how to upgrade" doc.
ahhh, I used roodah's change and it fixed it here... I'll document it and post here this evening when I have it uploaded again.
For those with it already installed, change this section in ubb_forum.cgi to this:
Yeah Allen, thanks for making me look bad.
OK, file linked to on front page has been updated, plus it is now using the vars_wordlets_mods.cgi most of you already have, if you don't, then check
DPK's Mod for it, as we are working towards standardizing the wordlets files for modifications added.
Slurpee:
Hi, I just updated my UBB to 6.02 and went back and installed sevral of the hacks I collected including yours. I've ran into a problem; in private forums, when you click Show Topics from last 45 days, or higher, it brings up
This may not have been due to your hack, I currently have 6 hacks installed:
Anchor, last reply, News Fader, Custom Rank, and MODs Wordlets.cgi
Any Suggestions?
Hey Paul, not sure where your problem may be, but it isn't affecting us here (I just checked) - right now, we only have who's online and this one installed.
Nope just checked my forum, no private forum problem like that.
Could this be a CHMOD problem? I've tried reinstalling the hacks using a fresh upgrade zip.
I guess I'll just reinstall the whole board then try each hack one at a time.

OK, I figured out my own problem...Since I wasn't using the file vars_wordlets_mods.cgi before, I had to add this statement to ultimatebb.cgi
require "$vars_config{VariablesPath}/vars_wordlets_mods.cgi";
I'm no programmer, but I don't understand why the statistic hack was working....
Any one try this in 6.03 yet? geez.. I just upgraded to 6.02 the other day too..lol.. can't win sometimes.
6.03 is fine for me on a board I hacked it on.

working with 6.03 here too
Argh. I've read through the previous posts and tried what a few suggested but to no avail. Any help?
Thanks! And I used the link from Allen's posts up front.

[ April 10, 2001: Message edited by: NSA ]
It works for me...
Ahah I fixed it. Found the problem.
Okay in the CP, under General Display Settings, and under the "Max # of Posts displayed per page" there are all the settings and the bottom setting is "Posts Maximum Per Page". Thats what I chose, because I did not want multiple pages on my Bored.. however, I suppose this is a Bug? An error? Because I dont think it works the same as the "no maximum per page" that existed on 5.xx. Now I'm pretty dumb, but I changed it and that fixed my problem.
Any ideas? Three cheers to being bored and futzing around with options

after adding this i was able to see last reply by. Thx jdearing

how can i do:
after reply [and edit] go to the last post, and not to the first.

I think their was a mod about this. but it never got finished. i supose.
Just so everyone knows, this hack works perfectly on 6.04.
I agree.. tested ok on my 6.04 board.
i got this error

solved the problem. i changed the last post routine in ubb_forums.cgi to this
# begin last post hack

$last_post_username = "";
}
else { $last_post_num = &GetUserNumber($last_post[2]);
if ($last_post_num ne '') {

if ($user_profile[15] eq '') { $last_post_username = $user_profile[0]; }
}
else {
$last_post_username = $last_post[2];
}
my $total_posts = $total_replies + 1;
my $page_num = '';
if ($total_posts > $vars_display{HTMLDisplayMax}) {
my $total_pages = int ($total_posts / $vars_display{HTMLDisplayMax});
if ($total_posts % $vars_display{HTMLDisplayMax}) { $total_pages++; }
if ($total_pages > 1) {
$page_num = "&p=$total_pages";
}
}
$last_post_username = qq!
$vars_wordlets_mods{last_reply_by}:
$last_post_username!;
} else {
$last_post_username = '';
}
}
# end last post hack
if anyone else gets this
edit: i think its a problem with the old "change username" hack i used, and with unregistered post
edit2: just making it easier to understand, i enclosed the code that opens the profile with an
if that checks if the $last_post_num variable is not empty. when i entered the forum, there were some guests posts in the last posts (which not appeared in the topic listing).
SHW of this hack now available on my website:
http://www.qasic.com/ubbhacks.html
I just apply the hack to my board and seems to work fine.
I don't get any "last reply by" or "by" i just get the username.....like in the picture.
how can i change it to "by:username"
i'm using ubb6.04c and i installed using lastreplyby202.shw
thanks i did installed the mods_wordlet and now is working fine !
Cheers !
Hi all,
I fixed the legendary not registred user bug. The bug was caused by the fact that the hack tries to get the user number for the names, but what would happen if you try to get the user number for a unregistred user: Error. So I have made a check if the user exists ans only if there is a registred user I'll get the number and the link to the user profile, otherwhise I only would write the name. This bugfix also solves the problem with older threads for not longer existing user.
Here comes the code:
Regards,
stk
Ok I installed the Hack on ubb 6.0 and it all works fine...
But I cant get into my Control Panel now..
It gives me this error..
Version 2.03 released on my website. Incorporates stk's code for people who are not registered
qasic
I am having a problem with the hack. It just displays : username. I added require "$vars_config VariablesPath}/vars_wordlets_mods.cgi"; un ultimatebb.cgi but it doesn't help. what now?
anyone? Please help an idiot.
Have you installed the Mod Wordlet module?
qasic
What do you mean by "installed"? I put the line require "$vars_config{VariablesPath}/vars_wordlets_mods.cgi"; from the earlier post into my ULTIMATEBB.CGI, but is gave me an error trying to read the file. (I am a complete UBB newbie). The error is:
"Error including required files:
Make sure these files exist, permissions are set properly, and paths are set correctly.".
I placed the new "require" immediately after the one for VARS_WORDLETS_DATE.CGI".
I placed "vars_wordlets_mods.cgi" into the VARIABLES directory beforehand, but no joy.
Any ideas? I KNOW I'll need the CGI above for other additions to the UBB system. Thaks in advance.
If that's the case (getting that error), that means that vars_wordlets_mods.cgi is incorrect somehow. Can you paste vars_wordlets_mods.cgi inside this thread and I'll find the bug for you
qasic
Here it is...
%vars_wordlets_mods = (

So, what did I mess up? It seems like everyone here knows MUCH more than I do. (sigh...)

qasic
Thanks dude. One more question, how do I get that file into my CP? I don't see any ability to edit it there.
(BTW, my problem was that I didn't have the file in the CGI-BIN directory, as well as a missing comma.)
He's fixed that last problem

how i can get the last reply by line to be next to the time and date of the posting, insted of underneath?
Does anyone have this up on 6.04e?
It's sure working on 6.04f...
Hi, I'm a complete newbe !
I tried to do that splenid hack, but it required me to alter : vars_wordlets_mods.cgi !!
I can't find that file... Where is it ?
Thanks.

Get the Mod Wordlet Module availble on DPK's website or on my website:
http://www.qasic.com/ qasic
When i goto access the control panel i get an error with the vars_wordlet_mod file with the last_reply_by line
nm, i fixed that problem. but whenever i try to update/change my modification wordlets i get this error:
Unable to open wordlets file for writing: vars_wordlets_mods.cgi at /home/ejiboco/public_html/ubb/cgi-bin/cp_wordlets.cgi line 158.
sounds like you need to set the permissions on that file.
I have it running on my 6.05 board, but have a slight problem. It shows last reply by [username] but when I click a username, it just goes to the beginning of the post instead of the post of the user.
Any ideas?

freakomatic - look under your noncgi directory, there should be a subdirectory called templates. That is where all the public_ files will be located.

I found a bug with using the last name user script and was wondering if there was any way around it.
Seems if you have a private section for like mods and admins it doesn`t work.
Works fine on the others as long as it`s not private. How to get around that?
I cant seem to get the ultimatebb_mod_wordlets_install.cgi to run, keep getting an 500 internal error..
Bare in mind, this is my first hack.. what am I doing wrong?
This isn't quite working properly for me
Thanks.
Addition:
I guess it's worth adding that i couldn;t get to the vars_wordlets_mods.cgi dl page, so I just put "Last post by:" into the source directly... I don't suppose this is the cause however, since the same problem existed before I added that text into the code.

Hi again
I just realised that i had that 'no member profile' error that has be talked about in previous posts. well, i went over them all (i have read all 11 pages now
same...
can anyone post the File after the modifications?
We cannot do that - it'll be a violation of our UBB license agreement.

Qasic.....is the file still available on your site because I can't see it there....????
If anyone can give me a link it would be appreciated.
Thanks
I'm attempting to install this hack on my board running version 6.2.1.1
It got as far as putting in the new line beneath the date, and placing the picture in (I replaced the wordlet and colon with a picture) - but the username of the last poster is not displayed.
Any ideas what could be the problem, or how to fix it?
Thanks!
Hi I know this is in 6.0 but does anybody know if it will work with 6.3.0 beta 1 ?
Thanks because I would really like this hack.
umm... why don't you check the 6.2 forums
I searched it already and could not find it? Am I going mad or is it there?...
