My first mod, ported to 6.1 laugh

Here we go:

Name: Chat Mod

Description: Lets you chat with jIRC. It has full CP support, it's 100% wordletized, it automatically gets the nick of the user/GuestXXXXX (5 random digits) if it's a guest, replaces smilies with real smilies, notifies Who's Online, shows how many people are currently chatting (by Who's Online) and even invites people to the chatroom (thanks to Olson).

Demo: http://www.lkubb.dns2go.com

Link: ZIP File or MultiHack File

Requirements: UBB™ 6.1 Beta Release 2.0 , Mod Wordlets 1.5 , jPilot License (unless you want to see an "unregistered" line after every line)

Special thanks to: Ryan Olson for Invitation Script, qasic and Borg for Who's Online, dj_rava for the Admin Command Buttons idea and Troy for MultiHack and supporting me all the way smile .

Great job, LK. Many people have been looking for this. I am not so sure I will use it though, but it's nice that ya did it.

Keep up the good work, LK!

Great hacl LK. I'll install it when 1.3 Comes out and the WOL will work.

Cool hack. I'll definetely install this one when UBB 6.1.0 goes out of beta.

I'm very happy to see this. I hope that 6.1.3 is out by this weekend so that I can try it all. My whole desire for the chat is to log it, so I will be trying to read thru the jIRC doc about logging (I did read there that it can be done). I can't think of a better reason to use it. So many of the chats don't let you log. I want to save transcripts for others to look at that were not able to attend.
Posted By: LK Re: [6.1x] Chat Mod v1.2.1 - 08/14/2001 12:35 PM
Files updated with a new ubb_chat.cgi, made some things tidier.

Debbie, are you sure it's possible? If so, can you tell me how?

Well, if I knew for sure how, I'd have it done (also, if I had the time). At chat one day, you guys told me to go read up on it. I looked at the mIRC doc, and they do it. You can use "Logging" as the word to look up in the index. I don't know about jIRC vs. mIRC.

I have hosted my Caribbean Chat on AOL for 5 years and want to move it to my own site but want to log chats before I do it. Digichat does it, but that is megabucks. I think OnChat does it. I would like to do it here and plan to try it out.
Posted By: DebbieH Re: [6.1x] Chat Mod v1.2.1 - 08/17/2001 2:43 AM
Evidentally not, then--http://www.jpilot.com/java/irc/ubb/contents/Forum3/HTML/000321.html

then this is not the way to go for me unless mIRC can be hacked in.
Posted By: DebbieH Re: [6.1x] Chat Mod v1.2.1 - 08/17/2001 2:58 AM
BTW, mIRC is at www.mirc.com and is only $20 to register.
Posted By: LK Re: [6.1x] Chat Mod v1.2.1 - 08/17/2001 10:05 AM
Yeah, I already have it

What you can do is that you'll use mIRC and choose to log anything, and other people will use jIRC, but then you'll have to be there all day long. If you have access to your server's box, you can put an Eggdrop ( www.egghelp.org ) and choose to log anything.
Posted By: DebbieH Re: [6.1x] Chat Mod v1.2.1 - 08/17/2001 3:18 PM
My webhosting outfit (featureprice.com) supports tcl,but I can't telnet or anything. I can only FTP. I don't think I can do this eggdrop thing. Don't you need to do the gunzip right on the server?

If others use jIRC, and I use mIRC, that means I have to buy both, but I like mIRC better (mainly because I have already figured it out)
Posted By: LK Re: [6.1x] Chat Mod v1.2.1 - 08/17/2001 6:41 PM
Debbie:

1. I have no idea But you can save it on the local (the one with eggdrop) computer.

2. You don't have to buy mIRC, you're (legally) allowed to use an unregistered copy.

LK, I'm having a couple problems. Let me know what you can do...

First) In the CP, I click on Chat Settings, and I get this error:
Code
quote:</font><hr> An error has occured:

/home/web/legendz/public_html/cgi-bin/vars_chat.cgi: syntax error at /home/web/legendz/public_html/cgi-bin/vars_chat.cgi line 96, near "~ =>"

(called by /home/web/legendz/public_html/cgi-bin/cp_lib.cgi, 427)

<hr></blockquote>

Next, when I goto enter the chat room from the catagory page, I get this error:
Quote

I've tried to re-hack it twice, with no luck. The error is persistant.

Here are the lines in which the errors are referring to...:

First Error:

Second Error:

My opinions are that the first line is written wrong, maybe not. I'm not that great at writing CGI, so I'm probably wrong, but it does look wrong to me at least. For the second error, it's obvioulsy calling a template file that it's saying isn't there. I uploaded all the files to the right places, .pl files to templates, and .cgi files to cgi-bin, but no luck. I'll mess around with them a bit more, but if anyone can help, it would be greatly appreicated.

Something weird happened to vars_chat.cgi.

Fix: remove anything after the first "1;" in vars_chat.cgi.

ZIP file will be updated after I'll be able to enter Tripod UK.

Ok, now that that last error is repaired, I came across a new one.

Here's the deal:

I went to my chat room, and this is what came up:
Code

An error has occured:

1. Download the new ZIP and upload vars_chat.cgi.

2. It exists only in Beta 1.4.
Posted By: V00D00 Re: [6.1x] Chat Mod v1.2.1 - 08/23/2001 7:17 PM
Still have the same error I had a minute ago.

Also, it's the ubb_chat.cgi file that's messing up (or not) now.

I uploaded the new vars file, no luck

I'm using 6.1 beta 1.2 does that matter?
Posted By: LK Re: [6.1x] Chat Mod v1.2.1 - 08/23/2001 7:30 PM
Yes.

In ubb_chat.cgi, find:

&LoadStyleTemplate($vars_chat{Template});

replace with:

do "$vars_config{NonCGIPath}/styles/vars_style_$vars_chat{Template}";

LoL, I'm giving you a workout today LK!

Here's another...

After I fixed the last one, this came up:

Code
quote:</font><hr>Error

Yep... I just installed it on a fresh PB 1.4 board (with Who's Online, ofcourse), and it works fine. In Style Templates, what's the Table Width?

BTW, Do you have AIM/ICQ? wink
Posted By: V00D00 Re: [6.1x] Chat Mod v1.2.1 - 08/23/2001 8:09 PM
My style template width is 95%
Posted By: DebbieH Re: [6.1x] Chat Mod v1.2.1 - 09/03/2001 6:58 PM
I installed the mod. I pretty much want it to be as generic for logged on users as possible, as my users are NOT too savvy. When I went in the room, I still saw that there was nobody in the chat room, so I changed the "no one in the chat room" message to "join the chat room". Also, I said "no" to having an about button, but I get one anyway. I'd like to make that "Disconnect" button big enough to see the word but don't know how. I sent JPilot his $49.99 begrudgingly since there is no log (going to try the mIRC route, but I did that the other day, and the autolog didn't work for me, just the manual log did). I have not got a registration number. I know regisoft says it may take up to a week. That is unacceptable. I would like to get it today. I think $49.99 is overpriced, so the guy could at least have a way to get you your number right away.

Thanks, LK for a great mod. I had hoped for 6.2 or at least 6.1 out of beta to do this but gave up waiting. The only other mod I don't have on that I really want is the hit mod, but I will wait for that.

I hope you can shed some light on my comments in the first paragraph.
Posted By: LK Re: [6.1x] Chat Mod v1.2.1 - 09/03/2001 7:18 PM
Debbie,
  1. If I'll put it in the ZIP, everybody will know 'join the chatroom' is when nobody is there, so everybody will change it anyway wink
  2. It works only after you type in the key.
  3. In FieldNameConnect (wordlets), you can use " Connect " (and make sure to type it again next time you'll edit the wordlets).

I believe I have my 3 channels are registered now and I am an op on them, LK and can log each thru mIRC. Very unfriendly, but it does work, and I think even the autologging is working now. Thanks for your time this afternoon!

Hi there,

I was just curious how you think this would work with Conference room I have used JS before, but like conference room a bit better. Do you suppose it would be possible to port it in?
Posted By: DebbieH Re: [6.1x] Chat Mod v1.2.1 - 09/05/2001 2:05 AM
I must say that the jPilot guy takes his time to send the license key. How long have other people waited?

Thanks to LK, I all but there except for that part. I had wanted to have it all working by the end of the labor day weekend, but that guy has not sent the key. I did write him at the support email to find out what the delay is. I have had this problem w/ RegSoft before, so maybe they are the delay??
Posted By: DebbieH Re: [6.1x] Chat Mod v1.2.1 - 09/05/2001 12:22 PM
The email worked, I had a key this a.m., just typed it in the CP screen and hit save, and I am in like Flint w/ my three (so far) channels. Thanks so much LK!!!!

Now if I can just get used to the new forum colors on THIS board. eek

Excuse my ignorance.
Is this a link to just any IRC server, or can you only gain access into the room through the link on the UBB forums?
I only want people in my chat-room who are from my site. How does it go about creating channels?
I might be wildy off the mark here, but i'm a bit confused by it!
TIA

1. It's currently irc.webchat.org, channel #LK, and you can change it from the CP.

2. in ubb_chat.cgi before the first line, put:

After having installed the hack on my PB2.1 test board I've run into a problem:

http://www.ispreview.co.uk/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi

Now when you try to enter the ubb_chat it gives you the following FYI:

You are attempting to reach a page that does not exist.

For the record I did notice that three or four of the instruction lines (couple might have been in ubb_forum.cgi) didn't tally with v6.1PB2.1 properly. However despite this it wasn't too hard to find the correct lines and sort the code, although please re-do the instructions to be accurate.

Worth noting that I don't think testing this on LKs own board is gonna work since that didn't show up the UBB Poll bug either =).

Any help?
Posted By: LK Re: [6.1x] Chat Mod v1.2.1 - 10/10/2001 1:24 PM
mark, the error message is caused if you didn't hack ultimatebb.cgi correctly.

The ubb_forum(_summary).cgi parts are only if you have Who's Online installed, which is needed for this hack.
Posted By: mark99 Re: [6.1x] Chat Mod v1.2.1 - 10/10/2001 1:47 PM
Cheers, once I knew what file to go through it was fairly easy to spot the TINY mistake (bad } position).

Although here's a few things to change in your instructions to make them more accurate.:

If I clear the catch it works, but the first time I refresh or reload the main page of my bulletin board the text dissapear, until I clear the catch again.... UBB6.1 does not have that line in ubb_forum_summary.cgi . To fix your problem, in ubb_forum_summary.cgi:

Find:

print;
$_ = $handle -> readline();

Add below:
==========

$_ =~ s//$ChatHTML/g;

Find (AGAIN):

1QuickSI: you gotta install WOL CGI version before installing Chat Mod.

CopyCat, yes, you can.

freeTV, I don't think it's gonna work after 'print;', and anyway it works also without your modification.

LK, how about the WOL PHP version? Is that one ok? Thanx smile
Posted By: LK Re: [6.1x] Chat Mod v1.2.1 - 11/07/2001 2:46 PM
No, that's why I mentioned "WOL CGI". I can easily make it not require WOL (since there is no 'invisible' and it's only the number of people + time), and I'll probably do it, but it will never work with PHP. Also, the "Invite" feature will always work only with WOL.
Posted By: 1QuickSI Re: [6.1x] Chat Mod v1.2.1 - 11/07/2001 4:25 PM
I am probily going to have to pass on it then most likely due to the size of my system; 46,000+ registered users and 600+ forums and growing smile

excellent mod LK, if I knew how it worked I would have installed it earlier.

is there a way to change the ammount of time people keep listed just for the "chatting" in WOL? or to get the number of people using the applet using another method? this way people would not "disappear" in the chat.

congrats smile . its a shame java is so slow.

Question. In the instructions are this:

Quote
quote:
The last portion. I know all the *.gif's are FTP'ed in Binary. What about the jirc_mss.cab, jirc_nss.zip, jirc_pure.zip, sound_no.au, sound_ohyea.au, sound_yahoo.au, sound_yes.au??? Does it matter whether or not these are uploaded in Binary or ASCII? Do they need to be CHMOD'ed?

Even though ubb_chat.cgi - cgi-bin
vars_chat.cgi - variables
cp_vars_chat.pl - noncgi/Templates listed not CHMOD values, I still CHMOD'ed them with defaults that would normaly be used with them.

This is my second install attempt and my second error, but I'm closer this time. Any advice so I can try and root out this problem.

Thanks!

DrClarke, looks like the java applets were not loaded. You need to upload the files jirc_mss.cab, jirc_nss.zip, jirc_pure.zip as binary to the non-cgi directory (which is one level above the Templates directory).
Posted By: LK Re: [6.1x] Chat Mod v1.2.1 - 11/09/2001 7:30 AM
You can still use the invitation feature, but it requires WOL. smile (even though it's untested)

ZIP file updated, grab the updated cp_vars_chat.pl, rehack cp_lib.cgi, enter CP - Chat Settings and set Refresh Rate.

Is it possible to use this mod if I already have JIRC installed elsewhere on my site?

Yes, use the same license number smile

Due to server load I do not want to run something like DigiChat which runs off the server. Does this use the client's side to connect or does it require intervention with the server as well?
Posted By: Variables Re: [6.1x] Chat Mod v1.2.1 - 11/14/2001 1:26 AM
The ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=chat is refreshing ones per second. How is this possible?

(found it)... i've removed this in ubb_chat.cgi:

if ($in{chat} eq 'iframe') {
my $random = rand(99999);
$ThisHTML = qq~Chat's Iframe~;
print($ThisHTML);
exit(0);
}

Another question LK,
how can the chatcount link be placed in the forum-intro at the top under the logout?

Find:
my $refresh = $vars_chat{inactive_time} * 60;
Replace with:
my $refresh = $vars_chat{refresh_time} * 60;

I'll update the ZIP in a bit...

Chat Mod v1.2 released!

Features: supports PHP, fixes that bug.

Rehack ubb_forum_summary.cgi, cp_lib.cgi, ultimatebb.php, public_forum_summary.pl and then update chat settings in the CP.

Also upload the new ubb_chat.cgi if you didn't fix what I said before manually.

However, I've never tried it with WOL for PHP and I looked at that code only to make the current ultimatebb.php code, so the invitation feature won't work in PHP.

Good luck, it's almost totally untested. Demo: http://www.lkubb.dns2go.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php

Works great LK. I could'nt test php because i have mods that make this impossible but the cgi works well and the refresh (bug?) is gone. wink

Maybe it's possible to have the line in public_forum_summary.pl that displays the message who is in the chat, under or above the who's online count-text?

ZIP file updated again, now it supports invitation (even though you can't use it since it doesn't support WOL for PHP, but I decided to do it anyway tipsy )

Updated files: ultimatebb.php, public_forum_summary.pl, ubb_forum_summary.cgi, ubb_forum.cgi and public_forum_page.pl

I tried accessing the Chat settings in the Control Panel and I got the following error:

An error has occured:

cp_vars_chat: template not found at ubb_lib.cgi line 1777.

That's odd, because we don't modify ubb_lib.cgi. Any suggestions?

Hussein: upload cp_vars_chat.pl to the NonCGI/Templates dir

BTW, about our conversation in webnet: use /chanserv register #channel password description, #channel = channel name, password = channel password (use /chanserv identify #channel password to get founder status later; doesn't have to be your UBB password), description = what your forum is about.

Just don't forget that the channelname is the same as the one set in the CP.

Ie. /chanserv register #LK mypasswordthatIgottaREMEMBERandthatisCASESENSITIVE Test Board's Channel.

Then, you should (don't have to though) AOp moderators and SOp admins:

Tell them to register their nicks (you know how), and then /chanserv sop #channel add admin-nick, /chanserv aop #channel add mod-nick.

LK,

Thanks. I did have it in the Templates directory, but when I re-uploaded it, it worked perfectly.

Two other questions:

1) When someone sends me an invitation to join the chat room, I don't receive the javascript pop-up until I return to the forum summary page and hit refresh. Is there a way of making it instantenous?

2) This question may have already been answered, but regardless of how many people are in the chat room, it always says "There are no people in the chat room".

Help Please!
I've installed this absolutly amazing hack but am having a couple of minor problems.

1) How can I move the link from the bottom to just above the stats hack?
2) How can I stop the page refreshing every second or so as this is quiet annoying? Or is there a reason for this?
3) Lastly as previously stated by others, is there a way to fix the bug with it saying there is no-on in the chat room all the time? However I have managed to catch it saying there is 2 users in there when there is about 10 users in.

Any help is greatly appreciated ad I love this hack. Keep up the good work and thanks

Nokia, can you use the original Infopop copyright image in your forums?

Anyway, ZIP file updated, I fixed that 'null' bug.

ZIP file updated with Chat Mod v1.21, now you can get the invitations everywhere. Hack public_common.pl/ubb_lib_files.cgi, unhack ubb_forum.cgi if you don't have WOL installed and public_forum_page.pl.

It has nothing to do with mIRC. Also, mIRC's $20 are donation, because they don't add/remove anything.

If it doesn't work, rename *.cab to *.bin, and in ubb_chat.cgi replace CAB with BIN.

The chat mod need to be updated with a newer Who's online version. It doesn't find 2 lines in ubb_forum_summary.cgi

1. my $ChatHTML;

2. while(

I have Who's online 4.1 installed, hypercells, cp controlled cat back hack, avatar hack, calendar, and memberlist oh and who's online style mod. I wish I could install the polls hack as well 1.9 I think its an old multihack file anyways and doesn't come out correct either Also the pm inbox hack needs fixin I can't save it in txt format html screws the hack up although a nice one. version I am using for ubb 6.1.0.3

Not waiting for a fix just thought I would let you know.

Do you know of any good Perl chat scripts? Should I even try a Perl script, or is the applet the way to go for a Chat feature.

anyone have any idea how much bandwidth doing chat would be? chat would be a great addition to my board, but the forum is being hosted for free as a favor...so i'm not trying to get too greedy. i've already got 60kb forum pages; though i'll get mod_gzip installed sometime.
Posted By: LK Re: [6.1x] Chat Mod v1.2.1 - 12/16/2001 10:29 AM
The chatroom itself isn't hosted in the server, however the CAB + ZIP files weight ~100kb (altogether), and everyone who accesses the chatroom has to download these files.

Well, i checked this hack and recent chat hacks but no vars_chat.inc.php. (???)

I have made an empty vars_chat.inc.php chmod it 777 and still the same. I've rehacked the files, it remains.

Hi,

Last night I tried to install this hack, with the Mulithack version, grabbed from the database here.

It reported no errors, apart from the WOL ones, which I am not running.

However, it immediately crahed my site.

I restored the back-up files - and re-built the cache, but this morning the site is still down.

The current error is:-

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: chatcount() in /home/sites/site30/web/ubb/cache-CV55Y59H/ubb_files/forums/Forum13/000084.cgi on line 43

I have tried re-building the forums without joy, and clearing the cache etc. I have now had to disable the cache and the accelerator, to try and get the board up.

Any idea, what might have happened? Or how to correct it?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Ian.

oops meant to post this in the 6.2.0 thread(perhaps it's time for a 6.2 forum, what with it coming out on Monday 28th!), anyway looks like the same sort of error I get

Installed this hack, works great thanks!!

Couple of questions:

1. Can the chat area be turned on or off? If not, it would be nice to have this feature so that we could specify chat times and so that users don't constantly chat in the chatroom instead of on the forum.

2. Where it says:

There is no one in the chatroom. Click here to join it.

What files do I need to modify in order to have the chat load in a popup window? Is that possible?

That's it for now. Great hack!

Rainner, the default server shows it, but blocks a part. For example: =bflabv938-960-408-39.btinternet.com instead of somethingelse-XXX-XXX-XXX-XX.btinternet.com

AgentX:
1) Just unhack public_forum_summary.pl.
2) It's in ubb_forum_summary.cgi.

Just a quick note I tried installing this on 6.2 and it works good. I found one part that does not work and need help

if ($ubb eq 'chat') {
if (-e "$vars_config{CGIPath}/vars_whos_online.cgi") {
&RequireCode("$vars_config{CGIPath}/ubb_whos_online.cgi");
&WriteUserSession("$vars_wordlets_mods{whos_online_chatting}", $user_number, $invisible_pref);
}
&RequireCode("$vars_config{CGIPath}/ubb_chat.cgi");
&chat;
exit(0);
}

if ($vars_chat{Invite}) {
if ($ubb eq 'newinvite') {
&RequireCode("$vars_config{CGIPath}/ubb_chat.cgi");
&invite_form("$vars_wordlets_mods{invite_message}");
exit(0);
}

if ($ubb eq 'invite') {
&GetOrPost("POST");
&RequireCode("$vars_config{CGIPath}/ubb_chat.cgi");
&invite;
exit(0);
}
}

I changed ubb_who and vars_who wink to pntf if that is suppose to be done! I commented out the following line

&WriteUserSession("$vars_wordlets_mods{whos_online_chatting}", $user_number, $invisible_pref);

casue this was causing compilation errors anyway this should help pinpoint any little things to help get it operational for 6.2 smile any help is appreciated LK

Hi,

Managed to get my board back up last time, and decided today to give it another go.

However upon installation, and clearing my cache, the baord crashed again, this time saying that ultimatebb.cgi had aborted due to complilation errors frown

I re-hacked the file, and also re-hacked ultimatebb.php.

But still the board failed.

I have now restored the backup, and we are back up.

Any ideas as to what the matter can be.

Still running 6.1.0.4

The only thing possibly missing is public_forum_page.cgi, which is listed in your list of modified files, but does not appear to be modified.

Regards,

Ian
