Hi.

I ported jordos PM System to UBB 6.3 and added some modifications (New PM Color, Popup)

Name: PM System 1.2

Required: Valid UBB 6.3 License, CP Mod Addon

Download: TXT File

Demo: Forum of the TEClan

Future Plans: Allow users to choose, if they want a popup.

Special thx: Jordo for his PM Sys laugh

PM wav: "u have new mail" is finally working. I've removed the window.alert (popup) and put a bgsound src in it. Works perfect. wink

Out of curiousity, how much of a resource drain is this compared to the regular PM inBox hack?

Worked fine for me, but I edited the code a bit on it.

Lord Dexter, something went wrong with the PM i wrote you. frown
I guess it is 3 or 4 times in your box because of a strange PM behavior here. There was a delay and a flood penalty for 61 seconds...

Ok, cLK helped me to edit the Hack (User can choose, if they want a Popup, a Sound, or nothing).

We have some big problems now laugh , but we'll try to fix it.

This version will be out, when we fixed the errors.

Hi,

This is working reasonably well on my 6.3.0.
Sometimes when i click back from the PM Menu i get a null amount of pm's.

Appart from that all is cool

Hmmm - can't seem to get a "popup" no matter what I try frown

I used LK's script mod, everything else seems OK but not the popup.

I'm assuming my problem is somewhere in public_common.pl - is the hack final as yet?

Thanks smile

I have a question, tis installed on my board and it works dandy, however, if a member has a New PM it wont bring up a pop up or display 1 new pm till the user has refreshed forum summary or gone into a forum and back out.
Anyway to make it automatically pop up when a member immediately opens up forum summary? or did I hack it wrong?
Posted By: lekin Re: [6.3.x] [beta] PM System 1.2 - 06/20/2002 5:45 AM
It can be introduced in the JCTemplates, or is necessary to change some thing?

Because my forum all this in it, and would very like to place such add-on in it.
Posted By: lekin Re: [6.3.x] [beta] PM System 1.2 - 06/22/2002 1:28 AM
How much time is it going to take to the JC Template version to be released??
I really wanted to use it in my forum
Posted By: Hank Re: [6.3.x] [beta] PM System 1.2 - 06/22/2002 3:20 PM
It does with JC Template. You just have to make slight alterations for the template files.
Can't think what they are at the moment, but make sure the bit for Private Messages Table in Forum_Summary is above $pntf_locations[1]
Thats what I did and it works dandy.

Posted By: Dave2 Re: [6.3.x] [beta] PM System 1.2 - 06/22/2002 4:52 PM
Erm... Slightly confused at the points where it asks you to modify the templates. Is the second part for people who have templates with more than one logout so that it doesn't pop up multiple times?

Is anyone working on this mod any more? Have the bugs been fixed? And before I go through all of the hassle, can someone tell me what this is going to look like in the end? ...What I'm looking for is for my PM box to be on my main forum page so that my members can see first off if they have messages or not. If they have to click on something to go somewhere else, what's the point? They have to do that now anyway... [Linked Image]

ok, give me 3 Weeks to fix all bugs, then another version is out.

does this mod show you how many personal messages you have in the inbox, up near the 'Welcome user!" line?

There's several PM hacks, just wondered if this is the one that does it?

I have a problem woth the mod,

it keep showing that there is 1 new message inbox and when the user reads the PM and returns to the forum summary it still shows that there is 1 unread message, you have to log out and In again to refresh the PM system to 0

I run 6.3.0.1
Posted By: LK Re: [6.3.x] [beta] PM System 1.2 - 07/24/2002 5:10 PM
It doesn't count since the last time you entered forum summary, but since the last time you opened your browser (works the same as the lightbulbs)
Posted By: maurice Re: [6.3.x] [beta] PM System 1.2 - 07/25/2002 11:39 AM
so that means when the user is logged in and run thru the topics they get a pop up every time they come on the forum summary even if they saw there PM already...hmmm

I remember the PM mod used to refresh as soon as the user saw his PM

Can someone finish this mod?

It does not refresh the counter when the user already read the message so the pop up keeps popping up untill the user log of.

I think this mod is one a lot of people want on their boards.

It's in mhx, I haven't tried that version. Guess I've got nothing to lose, so I'll install MultiHack. Sigh.
Posted By: Gladius Re: [6.3.x] [beta] PM System 1.2 - 08/11/2002 6:01 PM
Man... I don't believe this... This crap screwed my entire board up!!! After the multihack patched the files (it all showed ok), I uploaded them, and BLAM! server errors all over. Luckily I've managed to restore the boards which seem to work, but I can't access the control panel any more!
Every time I load cp.cgi I get this:

"Error
An error has occurred:

Undefined subroutine &main::AppendAdminLog called at cp.cgi line 261.

Please inform the board administration of this error so that they may fix the problem. Thank you!"

God damn!!! frown frown
Posted By: maurice Re: [6.3.x] [beta] PM System 1.2 - 08/11/2002 7:49 PM
I runned the mhk file and there seems to be a error in the ubb_lib somewhere, did not have the time to see what causes it

But the only files that you need to backup are the ultimatebb.cgi, ubb_lib.cgi and the forum_summary so I d onot understand why you have to restore the cp.cgi Gladius and don't swear you will get there just stay calm..lol
Posted By: Gladius Re: [6.3.x] [beta] PM System 1.2 - 08/11/2002 8:14 PM
I got there... sorry about that. Of course, what got me totally crazed is the fact that there wasn't even any modification to any cp files going on, and I nearly went mad trying to figure out why the hell this happened. Of course, nothing helped. Until I started checking files one by one... sure enough, cp_lib.cgi was somehow corrupted on the server... I replaced it and it works now. THANK GOD!!

Still, there's something seriously wrong with this multihack file! It should be taken down until this is fixed, so that more people don't get screwed like I did... I'll definitely remember my first excursion into the "safe" world of MultiHack.
Posted By: AllenAyres Re: [6.3.x] [beta] PM System 1.2 - 08/12/2002 6:05 AM
I used it this past week on my personal site running 6.3.1. Just checked it now and there are no errors. Did it pass your analysis? Sounds lie you have other problems if your cp file was corrupted as well. This only affects 3 files and the changes are pretty straight forward.

BTW, there is no excuse for language like that in these forums. That's your only warning.
Posted By: Gladius Re: [6.3.x] [beta] PM System 1.2 - 08/12/2002 10:46 AM
There obviously are errors, I only got the cp corruption after I backed up the original files before the hack, this had nothing to do with the actual hack. It passed the analysis without problems, but didn't work on the server, it only produced ISE errors all over. I've installed enough hacks to know that there's something either wrong with the hack itself or the win98 MultiHack I'm using. If it didn't produce any errors upon patching, and it didn't work after uploading to the server, it's very clear to me that something went wrong with the patching process, or that the code is flawed somewhere.

Did you actually try using MultiHack to patch the files AllenAyres? Or did you do it manually?
Posted By: Gladius Re: [6.3.x] [beta] PM System 1.2 - 08/12/2002 11:24 AM
Just to give it the benefit of a doubt, I redownloaded the win98 version of MultiHack and went through the whole hack again. Again, it all showed no errors. And again, as soon as I uploaded the files, the topic listing and anything subsequent of the ultimatebb.cgi would produce Internal Server Errors. In short, no, there's no way I'm doing something wrong.
Posted By: maurice Re: [6.3.x] [beta] PM System 1.2 - 08/12/2002 12:04 PM
Must be a combination of mods, I am getting the same errors Gladius
Posted By: Gladius Re: [6.3.x] [beta] PM System 1.2 - 08/12/2002 12:49 PM
I have hardly any other mods (except original code modification, which couldn't be causing this) installed. The only hacks of note that I have are Newsfader and Latest Threads... Do you have either of those maurice?
Posted By: maurice Re: [6.3.x] [beta] PM System 1.2 - 08/12/2002 1:02 PM
I have Latest threads but that would be no problem I guess.

Try this one : http://www.jordodesigns.com/mods/PmSys620.txt

I just installed it and it seems to work steady
Posted By: Gladius Re: [6.3.x] [beta] PM System 1.2 - 08/12/2002 1:31 PM
I think I tried that one before and it didn't work for me either... But then again, half of the code in that is different since it's from 6.2.x... I tried adding into the replace code the stuff that was missing in the hack, but it didn't work for me. Kept showing 0 new messages... (I'm on 6.3.1.)

Man, out of 50+ hacks I've installed over the years, I haven't had so much trouble with any... And still the result is NOTHING... I'd laugh, but it's sad, not funny...

I suspect it must be the Newsfader then... It's the only other hack that I have that touches the same files as this one... public_forum_summary.pl specifically... Which is I suppose where the error occurs, since ultimatebb.cgi loads fine, but no specific forums do.

Hello,

It seems as though he has re-organised his site. I have located the required file here:

http://www.shark5060.net/files/ubb_pm_sys_63.txt
Posted By: August Re: [6.3.x] [beta] PM System 1.2 - 08/29/2002 2:06 AM
I implemented this mod and it works great. One probelm with the instruction/code-changes, though:

The string of characters it says to find in "cp_vars_style_core.pl" does not exist within that file (in 6.3.1.1, at least -- maybe it was changed since 6.3.1)

However, skipping that one change to "cp_vars_style_core.pl" is not a huge deal, the mod still works fine. It looks like that skipped code would enable a different, more alerting color when there are new PMs, which would be very nice but is not required.

However, if anyone knows how to fix that, let us know -- I'd like to have the color change feature too.

Anyway, great mod -- a big "thanks" to the developers!!!
Posted By: August Re: [6.3.x] [beta] PM System 1.2 - 09/04/2002 5:26 AM
Correction on my last post, there is a problem with not editing the "cp_vars_style_core.pl" file. The problem is if you ever want to edit your style sheets, submitting the edit provides the following eror:

--------------------------------------------
You did not complete all required fields

You did not complete: new_pm_color
--------------------------------------------

But since the change was not made to "cp_vars_style_core.pl", you can't complete new_pm_color. And therefore you can't shange the style sheet.

Can anyone help with updating that one line? Thanks!!
Posted By: Lord Dexter Re: [6.3.x] [beta] PM System 1.2 - 09/04/2002 8:57 AM
Get rid of the line in cp_styles.cgi and then that won't happen.

Thank You! smile That did it.
Posted By: redhotkitchen Re: [6.3.x] [beta] PM System 1.2 - 09/06/2002 6:14 PM
Ok, I can't seem to find the search line in cp_vars_style_core.pl for the following:

Quote
quote:

##############################
# open cp_vars_style_core.pl #
##############################

###############
# search for: #
###############

&ColorRow("Horizontal Rule Color", "", "hr_color", "#FFFFFF", "yes");

##############
# add below: #
##############

&ColorRow("New Private Message Color", "", "new_pm_color", "#FFFFFF", "yes");
Any advice? I can't find any reference to Horizontal Rule Color anywhere in cp_vars_style_core.pl, period.

(We're running 6.3.1.)

Hack seems to be working fine for me with one exception. The first time I visit my UBB is usually at the forum summary page which is where the notification is displayed (I haven't hacked the other "public" templates yet). I've found that it always displays zero messages even if there are new messages in my inbox. If I go view a post on the board and return to the forum summary then it correctly displays the number of messages. Anyone have any ideas why it doesn't work the first time? Did I screw up somewhere or is this a known bug/behavior? I was evaluating the hack on the forum summary only before integrating it with the rest of the public templates and this is the only issue I've had so far. Anyone?

I have this exact same problem when using the version designed for 6.2..

I think thats just how it works. I have a meta refresh on my forum summary, so after it refreshes, users get notified of new PM. Happens with cache on and off.

This mod keeps telling their is a new PM even when the user has read the PM, the pop up keeps showing up over and over, Is there a way to fix this?

Any advice? I can't find any reference to Horizontal Rule Color anywhere in cp_vars_style_core.pl, period.
Here is what I did so I could edit the setting in styles:

code:
[qb]
Code

##############################
# open cp_vars_style_core.pl #
##############################

###############
# search for: #
###############

&AlternateColors; &ColorRow($vars_wordlets_cp{vars_stylecore_hr}, "", "hr_color", $vars_style_cp{AltColumnColorCurrent}, "yes");

##############
# add below: #
##############

&AlternateColors; &ColorRow($vars_wordlets_cp{vars_stylecore_npmc}, "", "new_pm_color", $vars_style_cp{AltColumnColorCurrent}, "yes");

##############################
# open vars_wordlets_cp.cgi #
##############################

###############
# search for: #
###############

q!vars_stylecore_hr! => q!Horizontal Rule Color!,

##############
# add below: #
##############

q!vars_stylecore_npmc! => q!New Private Message Color!,

[/qb]
Close up shop and your done. However, this only changes the number's color. Any quick coders out there who can tell me how to have it change the color for the message "New Private Message in..."?

I read that Variables had a wav sound instead of the popup, could someone send that to me?

Also in the profile options to turn popup on and off there is no text. How can I fix that? There were no vars_worldet additions in the document.

The mod does work just fine on my 6.3.1.1, thanks for this handy feature.
Posted By: Saturn_Kindred Re: [6.3.x] [beta] PM System 1.2 - 09/20/2002 6:37 PM
Never mind about the vars_worldet. I thought each user was able to turn the popup notify on/off in profile, which you can't, and found out what was the problem.

I would still prefer to have the wav play instead of the popup so if someone could send me that code change I would greatly appreciate it.

Has anyone else noticed that you do not get notified of your PM until after you refresh ultimatebb.cgi or come back to it a second time?

Is there a fix for that?

I have always experienced this problem and decided to stop using this hack because of it.

Hello! I want to now if there is a way when users are not logged in to show this message "Only registered people can have pms"
besides of "No unread messages" = "0 Nem private message"
PS: I´ve changed the Texts.

Take a look at my board: http://cshock.ibboards.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi

How do I place the Private Message link at the top of the page?
Posted By: Gizmo Re: [6.3.x] [beta] PM System 1.2 - 10/05/2002 11:21 PM
(I haven't had the chance to try this mod since the link is down)

to add it to the top of the page under login you add it:

In public_forum_summary.pl (template) you'd add the code under:

$show_logout

(not sure of what all to add since I hadn't tweaked with this code and the page is down. I found it quite odd that the person who ported the hack's board was having errors with the pm box (page errors) when i went to his page)...

If you want you can email me this mod [email protected] and i'll take a look at it.

Hi,

I held off trying this hack for a long while as it seemed to be "hit or miss" to describe it at best.

Finally the other day I told the plunge, downloaded the multihack file and installed in onto my 6.3.1.1 board (everything all backed up of course! ;-) ).

Anyway, something unusual happens that I can't see described anywhere else here: Whilst the mod works perfectly, when anybody logs in, or whilst they are logged in the following line appears at the top of the screen:

Quote
quote:

Set-Cookie: pms2452260.2208=0; path=/; expires=Fri, 08-Oct-2004 21:54:49 GMT Date: Wed, 09 Oct 2002 21:54:49 GMT Charset: 0 TEXT/HTML Content-Type: text/html
Now this line is at the very top, just before the grahic for my BB loads.

The bulletin boards loads fine, and any new PM are displayed in the correct area, and onced clicked goes to the "in box".

However throught all of this, the above line still appears at the top of the page.

As soon as I click the logout button - voila, it's gone?

Is there any reason why I should be seeing cookie information on my webpages?

(As I said, I used the multihack file, and it reports a 100% success with the hacking. The only other hacks I have on, are the last reply hack and sticky threads.)

Thanks for any input!

Is the issue with the popup already fixed?

I installed the hack on my 6.3.1.1 board and it works perfect except for:

the pm color; the search string doesn't match
the popup.. doesn't show.. although i have enabled it with my CP addon..

could it be that it has something to do with the not adding colors for the new private message?

thnx in advance!

I got the pop-up thing to work! Its awesome.

Only problem is, if they dont read their new message, everytime they go back to the forum summary, it shows the pop-up again until they read it.

Any fix for this?!
Posted By: EftheM Re: [6.3.x] [beta] PM System 1.2 - 11/20/2002 12:00 PM
hey havoq..

how did you get it to work??
Posted By: havoq Re: [6.3.x] [beta] PM System 1.2 - 11/20/2002 4:15 PM
I installed the hack, had to install the CP_mod addon as well, and I got it to work that way. Whats ur problem?
Posted By: EftheM Re: [6.3.x] [beta] PM System 1.2 - 11/21/2002 6:35 PM
I am not getting the pop up..

that is the only problem..
Posted By: Painfool Re: [6.3.x] [beta] PM System 1.2 - 12/13/2002 9:12 PM
You dont have a Popup Ad blocker running on your system do you ? Zonealarm and some other firewall programs have these built in as well.
Posted By: Painfool Re: [6.3.x] [beta] PM System 1.2 - 12/19/2002 3:46 AM
Is there an easy way to allow pop-ups but make it user selectable in Profile. SOme people love it, some people hate it smile
Posted By: BassTeQ Re: [6.3.x] [beta] PM System 1.2 - 12/19/2002 5:56 AM
Yes it would be possible, probably not that hard to do, but to my knowledge it hasn't been done.

Posted By: djmaine Re: [6.3.x] [beta] PM System 1.2 - 01/01/2003 4:32 PM
Pop up still doesn;t work for me and when I try to change my style, it asks for a OM Colro setting that doesn't show
Posted By: djmaine Re: [6.3.x] [beta] PM System 1.2 - 01/02/2003 5:28 PM
I get this error...

You did not complete all required fields

You did not complete: new_pm_color

» Use your browser's back button to return.
Posted By: djmaine Re: [6.3.x] [beta] PM System 1.2 - 01/06/2003 5:41 PM
I see a problem here...

The directions say to find this...

##############################
# open cp_vars_style_core.pl #
##############################

###############
# search for: #
###############

&ColorRow("Horizontal Rule Color", "", "hr_color", "#FFFFFF", "yes");

------------------------------------------------

This is the closest thing I can find:

&AlternateColors; &ColorRow($vars_wordlets_cp{vars_stylecore_hr}, "", "hr_color", $vars_style_cp{AltColumnColorCurrent}, "yes");

-------------------------------------------------

What should I do???

I get the You did not complete all fields error after I try to update my style template
Posted By: BassTeQ Re: [6.3.x] [beta] PM System 1.2 - 01/06/2003 11:42 PM
They are the same line, so what you have found is correct, its just the 2nd one is wordletized, while the 1st is not.
But they are infact the same thing basically.
Posted By: djmaine Re: [6.3.x] [beta] PM System 1.2 - 01/07/2003 3:56 AM
How come it doesn;t appear in my style settings then...I can;t enter a pm color because it does not appear...

Did I miss something in the instructions?
Posted By: djmaine Re: [6.3.x] [beta] PM System 1.2 - 01/07/2003 8:16 PM
Ok...so I hacked out the cp.styles.cgi and cp.vars.style.core.cgi so I could update my style templates again

Any suggestions how I can implement the pm color properly?
Posted By: BassTeQ Re: [6.3.x] [beta] PM System 1.2 - 01/07/2003 11:34 PM
The 2 lines in cp_vars_style_core.pl look like

[code][/code]
Posted By: djmaine Re: [6.3.x] [beta] PM System 1.2 - 01/08/2003 9:23 AM
Thank your for the help but...

Damn...

I added the lines as typed and still do not see it in my style templates so I get the same error...
Posted By: havoq Re: [6.3.x] [beta] PM System 1.2 - 01/08/2003 4:39 PM
my popup works, has for a long time, though I had to fool around alot with getting it to work and the code

my lines in that file are this though

Quote
quote:

&AlternateColors; &ColorRow($vars_wordlets_cp{vars_stylecore_hr}, "", "hr_color", $vars_style_cp{AltColumnColorCurrent}, "yes");
&AlternateColors; &ColorRow($vars_wordlets_cp{vars_stylecore_npmc}, "", "new_pm_color", $vars_style_cp{AltColumnColorCurrent}, "yes")
Posted By: djmaine Re: [6.3.x] [beta] PM System 1.2 - 01/08/2003 5:45 PM
