I'm not sure whether this was the right forum so please excuse me if it's not!


I get this error when I try to run the upgrade script even though I chmod the config file to 777:
"Software error:
Unable to open vars_config.cgi file for writing. at ubb_upgrade.cgi line 52. "
Why?
Actually I installed the full ubb 604a before attempting to upgrade. Is that wrong? (I know I should not have done this, but what can I do now?)

Also, I get a aruntime error when trying to post a reply or a new post becasue of the code buttons.
Would upgrading to 604c fix this & what files do I need to replace (as I don't want to upgrade becasue of the mods I've installed).

Moving to Upgrading to v6...

Come on.... there's gotta be someone who knows what's going on!

You know, I am getting this same error with the file as I just upgraded from 5.47d to 6.04 on a NT server and the copied the files over to a Unix server. I have doubled checked over and over on the permissions.

I have played around with the board and I can't make a post, reply to a post, update my profile, and do any private messaging. The end result is a white page saying that there is an error.

The only thing that works on my board is search engine.

I won't redirect my members over until I get this corrected of course. But if you any you "UBB Techs" could lending a helping hand, I and probably others would really appreciate it.

That's terrible.. but I can actually post new topics and replies but I can't send PMs and I can't use the Smilies or UBB Code Buttons.

Well, some member can make posts/replies and some can not.

OK.. I redid all the CHMODs.. instant success but now the member total amount of posts doesn't show and the search doesn't work very well.

e.g. I do a search on my name and nothing comes up.

which files did u chmod again?
How?

maybe you shouldn't be playing with UBB if you don't know how to even play with file permissions ,

all the file premissions are in the read me file i think

unix command to change mods

chmod 775
for exe's
or chmod 777
for files that you are writing to
.. like the variable ones

I see where the Total posts are. Reminds me of UBB when they were using 5.4x.
