i KNOW this will sound weird.
and i know it's not often requested,
but here's what i want to do . . .

several months ago, our BBS went from classic to x.
i am aware there is no reverse import through infopop, or that it is 'not on the table'

but our BBS has changed it's central theme
and therefore the name we have used, the location, all of it is no longer applicable or associative.

Collectively, the admins and our users have decided to divorce ourselves from the current based topic
and reconstruct something more in our new vision, so to speak.
and we find that classic, as we remember it, will do more for us in modifications and simplicity.

the rest of the ins and outs that have led up to the decision are largely personal and having to do with personality conflicts, too tiresome to go into here . . .

since we still own classic, we have purchased a domain name, some hosting service, and now want to move the threads and user database there, now residing in .x, as we consider it our history.

i mean, we could start fresh, but we are constantly referring to our beginnings and previous cherished conversations.

we have gone about cleaning up our non-existant users and off-topic posts,
once moved we will clean and prune non-themed categories and threads, and unveil the new design we have been working on.

HOW, do we accomplish classic being able to read/work with x-built threads?

it was suggested to me that we do a MySQL dump
and convert the files to .txt

is this the answer?
and how is this accomplished?
any coding help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated . . .

Ya know, you could have asked us what to do - we could simply change the domain on your account... But, as you've purchased the domain and hosting for it already...

It would be easier to work with a UBB.x XML dump. I have a script that can do basic member conversion with a little work, but topics aren't ready yet.

here's the thing . . .
someone else OWNS/PAYS that account
the primary (but in effectual and non-existant admin)
who gave me the site info and the x host and said 'go play',
and i no longer want to be under that jurisdiction,
as i said, it's complicated and has to do with personality conflicts,
but as the BBS was my design, and i don't want to part with the community i've built,
i am taking the show on the road.

and i DID ask infopop about solutions,
so please don't chide me, frown
their suggestion was to pay them $599
for a very basic reverse import of Members, Posts, & Forums
or to solicit the help of some of you nice coders here,to see if there was a way some of you have already figured on.
they also explained i would need to KEEP the existing .x account optherwise:

"if you cancel the hosting account that most of the existing graphics will be broken if they are linkedto your sites graphics or contain links to our directories on an invalid account."

just another way to keep me paying the monthly host fee,
which the owner, that is to say, person currently paying the monthly host fee, has intended to let lapse after this month.

so i am in a quandary,
i want full control of this thing
and i that means learning some new tricks,
i'm up for it.

at this point, i'm willing to try anything.

I think you were a bit confused tipsy

1) We can't help you cause most of us don't have UBBx, and if you want us to check your account for you I don't think you'll find many people that are gonna do it for free.
2) You don't need to keep that account, the worst that can happen is a few broken smilies.
3) I'm sure the convertion didn't cost $599, maybe they told you to upgrade to UBB.class with lifelong memberlist access for $599 or something. (I don't remember whether it's $599 or $699)

Actually, that sounds like the fee we would charge for a data export... X hours of work at $$$ an hour.

We have in-house tools to import generic data, but we don't have the tools to move UBB.x into this generic data format.

Charles is correct LK
that WAS the fee i was quoted.

and yes,

1) i am aware that most of you do not deal with x
but was hoping to find any hearsay on the subject,

2) i am aware i could reroute all broken image links. time consuming but fully doable,
tsh . . . i'm hoping i could at LEAST accomplish that much after playing with both of these things  i CAN cope . . . lol!

3) i know nothing is for free, and if it is, i would get what i paid for: nothing, nothing useful, or possibly a horribly intractable BBS accident.

but i thank you for your concern . . .
