Hi, I was reading the article on using your wn PC for a server.

I ran the hello.cgi script, after failing to actually do the hello.pl script (XP goes C:/>My Documents etc, I can't get it to go C:/>) and when trying to run the hello.cgi script at http://127.0.0.1/hello.cgi I get:

Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /hello.cgi on this server.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Apache/1.3.26 Server at 127.0.0.1

How do I fix this? I've tested vB's on php triad before, but have now moved onto ubb, so I really need to be able to run cgi's so I can develop my own forums.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

C.

By default, Apache only allows script execution in the cgi-bin directory.

Thanks for the quick reply, but I really am not very good at using scripts etc. So, bear with me.

To run something in the cgi-bin, would I have to enter:

http://127.0.0.1/cgi-bin/hello.cgi?
http://localhost/cgi-bin/hello.cgi?

Sorry if I sound like a pain, like I said, I'm not 'clued-up' on these things.

Sorry, can I bump this? Or is it against the rules?

Well I have....and if it is against the rules, let me know, thanks....

Question for ya... why did you just try before asking? smile

Both of those should work.

Well I did try, but they didn't work, so I was checking to see if they WERE the paths. Still, when I try them , they still say Forbidden.

The only 2 things I can see I've done wrong are:

1. On the Activeperl installation, I did not install to C:/usr etc. It installed itself to C:/perl, and I couldn;t choose where to install it.

The command prompts I could not do (also on page 2) because my XP comes up :

C:/Documents and settings/Andrew/My Documents> etc, and in Matt Jacob's he has C:/>, I can't change it to that.

Sorry if I sound stupid, but I pretty much am frown .
