Just need some advice, Im switching hosting providers as well as upgrading my version of UBB from 6.2 to 6.3.1.1. Im thinking I would have to remove all the hacks I put in, in order for the UBB upgrade function to work its magic. Is this correct ? Is there an easy way to do this besides going file by file ? Also need to know if vars_config.cgi is the only file I need to change as far as settings and links are concerned to point to the new url. Thanks for the help guys

if you didn't add any information in the member's file then the upgrade should work no matter if any hacks are installed but you are better off upgrading to 6.5 if you are taking the step.

If you do have a hack that added some fields in the person's profile then use the member field stripper available at ubbcentral.

Well I was looking at the guide on the ubb website I would install 6.2, copy over my files from my message board and then upgrade it to the new version ?

According to what i can recall, I believe you'd just install 6.2 and then config it and upload all of your stuff you need, then install all of 6.3.x over it (all but the vars files).
