I need a news hack that will be able to:

-provide a teaser or full text of a post, provied a post is longer than X characters, for example

-be able to serve news to the front page on a per-days basis, say all posts from the last 5 days

-have a link and counter of how many comments there are in the news post on the forum

-provide linked headlines going to the proper news post lower on the page

-not need to be put on cron, if possible

Basically, I need something that will replace Newspro in functionality (with the added teaser option), but will be integrated with UBB. Is there such a hack out there? Thanks.

I believe both the old ubbnews mod and the newer phpnews mod by ron will do all those. We're using the older one on our front page here still for the last few years

Ah, so I presume it always shows an X number of latest posts instead?

Yes, that is controlled by the parameters sent to ubbnews.php. I have a cap of 5 in the stock script, but you can easily modifiy it to show like the latest 10. For example, if I include ubbnews.php?forum=34&thread=2, it will pull the 2 most current threads from Forum 34 and feed them.
