Recently had my board upgraded to Clasic 6.7.2

Members are complaining since the upgrade after a few posts they are being logged out. I am running into the same situation.

At first I thought it was the cookies, and advised people to log in to their profile and delete the cookies, and start fresh.

That wasn't the answer obviously.

I am at a total loss, and this is something I need to get fixed ASAP..

Any ideas are welcome.

Is the board if someone wants to test it out.

You can reply to my Speak to Freak Area at the bottom and type all the tests you want.

Immediately after they get logged out - the very instant, I mean, before visiting ANY other pages, have them visit this:

http://www.freaksforum.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=dumpcookies

They should see between zero and four cookies.

If they see "login" and "session" then their new post notification cookies are working fine.

If they see "PnTf" then their Recent Visitors cookie is also working fine.

If they see "ubber" then they're not actually logged out.

Ask them to try different browsers. If using IE, try Firefox. If using Firefox, try Opera. Etc.

If the logout issue only happens when using one browser, then it's the browser (and the cookies it's storing) that are at fault.

Here is my info from just now..... hope this helps, others are coming forward as well stating the issue. This is from IE 6, I am going to try Opera, and see what happens.

Okay, that tells me that every single one of your cookies got nuked. There's no function in UBB.classic, other than ubb=clearcookies, that will do that.

You can determine this through the "NEW" in the session cookie, and the current timestamp in the login cookie.

Any ideas what may be causing it to happen? Do I need to get rid of IE and reinstall it, or?

I would hate to tell people of the site they need to get rid of their browser and reload it. Even if that is an option, most won't do it.

So what can I do to alleviate this issue? If anything?

Could it be the host server?

I have found the problem I believe.

On a 2 page visit, including the main page and dumpcookies, this is what I have gained...

Your ads are the culprits most likely. Your site is setting too many cookies, and writing over the ubber cookie, logging the person out

That's very likely. There's a cookie-per-domain limit of 20...

When we are talking ad's are we talking the top portion of the forum, or are we talking about the banners themselves.

I don't have anything set up where the ads, place cookies, and wouldn't know if they did or didn't.

Is there a way I can test the theory?

The cookies are most likely being set by the scripts creating the ads, possibly to not show the same ad twice. I believe removing the ads entirely is the only real answer unless you creates ads.freaksforum.com, and host all ads from there. That could possibly give you ads, but keep your UBB safe

Here is another persons info they sent me, is it the same deduction as mine?

those aren't lsting all the cookies. I have given you the most likely cause, as well as a solution

In that dump, the user is logged in, not logged out.

You should use a banner rotation program and not use the straight code used by what ever advertisers you are using.
