Could someone please help me with my board?

I'm running 5.45c classic UBB board. I'm looking to upgrade to the newest version, but I need to fix a few problems first.

My board was working fine, but NO new users could register. It would just return a blank white page when hitting submit. Guys over at the support forums suggested it was a permissions issue. So using, http://www.ubbcentral.com/support/docs/ubbclassic/UBB5all.pdf I was trying to verify all the permissions. I got it where new users could register, but somehow lost my ~700 users. All the member data is still on the server. So, I need to get my board fixed up before I can move on. But, groupee support can't run their script because something is wrong with my setup.

I seem to have some type of problem related to the cgi-bin. The "hello.cgi" and "test2.cgi" that the groupee support have uploaded DO NOT work and return internal server 500 errors. The "test.cgi" that my server admin uploaded works. My server people say PERL is working fine, CGI-Bin is correct, and permissions are right. My groupee support ticket person says she doesn't know what is wrong either. Basically they are both pointing fingers at each other.

If anyone would be gracious enough to help me I would very appreciative. Please contact me by email or PM if you want.

Thank you SO much guys.

Dumb question; is the path to perl correct in the hello scripts?

Yes, both the "test.cgi" from my server guy that does work and the "hello.cgi" from groupee that does NOT work both refer to:

#!/usr/bin/perl

If anyone is willing to help, I can give you a temporary pass/user to poke around in my server/ubb area.

Thanks guys!

PS: I might be able to make a small donation to whomever ends up helping me get this solved.
