Two Questions:

1. Okay, I applied the mod that JoshPet posted about getting rid of ratings in some forums. I followed the instructions to the letter and made only one forum able to have ratings.

It didnt work..actually nothing happened.

Is there a new mod..a definitive mod..to get rid of the ratings forever?

I searched at Infopop and it led me back here to that zip file with templates..which also didnt work in v6.1.1

Any thoughts?

2. How do I get rid of (or change} the little yellow "post" icons? I would like to add my own creations. And that would include the white and yellow light bulbs that show up in the main index.

P.S. Btw Gardener, if you read this and I didnt thank you before, thank you for the custom mod on importing posts into my board. It worked fantastically. I had to change some stuff in the messages themselves but it saved me a ton of time.

FYI - In version 6.2 there will be an on/off option to disable ratings.

Yes, the thread in the templates forum has gotten a bit confusing.

That should do it.

You can add and remove the post icons from the admin area.

To change the lightbulbs you would have to exchange the files "newposts.gif" and "nonewposts.gif" from the image directory.

It's also nice to know that the importing worked and you could save time.

A little clarification. There will an option to get rid of user ratings. Thread ratings require table cells to be added so these are still in the templates.

No problem. There are so many new things that I have trouble keeping up with as well.

I wouldn't fool with the database table.

There are many scripts that will pull info from there.

We simply edit the ratings out of the templates.

If you drop the table... you'll get errors from several scripts.

Don't sweat it though.... they'll do you no harm.

Well I noticed the post icons in admin but its the book.gif I want to replace ..instead of a yellow and orange book..I want to add a white and yellow cat for instance

Seems simple enough if i just rename the files ..right?

Just looked at your board.
Check my instructions again... removing those sections from the postlist.tmpl will get rid of that ratings column all together. Looks like you missed that step.

Yes, upload your 2 colored cats... to the /images/icons and /images/newicons directories..... rename them book.gif

That's the default post icon... and one that can't be removed. So you are best to replace the graphic.

I am a really happy camper!

The new gifs worked perfectly! Quite easy really when you know how.

And the ratings..vamoose! Makes the board look much cleaner.

Now you know the Legend information in bottom *Extra Information* box? How can I add to that?

I want it to say (I changed the books to paws)
Legend:
New Posts : green paw
No New posts: black paw
File attachment: the yellow file folder

That happens sometimes.

I try to keep a list of my major hacks and what files were modified. Sometimes I lose track. I use BBEdit (the mac equivalent to Beyond Compare) to upgrade each time.... unless it's a major version where I start fresh and add hacks back in. If I forget to add something in, the users will certainly tell me.

As per the Legend... you'll find that in the appropriate templates... the Main Index Legend is in ubbthreads.tmpl file and the postlist legend is in postlist.tmpl file. (Search for the word "legend" in those 2 files and you'll find the appropriate place...towards the bottom )

Yes, that is what I've done myself (besides removing the option for users to select post icon). I thought it was possible to change the book.gif icon as well from the admin page, but it seems I was mistaken.
