1. Is there any way to prevent caching and archiving by search engines of all forum related pages?

2. Is there a way to make the forum invisible to search engines?

3. Is there a way to PREVENT copying and pasting of information on the forum, as i have seen other boards can? I saw an Ikonboard site where i couldn't highlight any text whatsoever.

Thanks WAY in advance!

Peace,
KC

If my understanding is correct. If "guests" can't see the forums.. search engines can't either.

Make your forums so that you must be logged in to see them.

I think that will do the trick.

As per prohibiting copy and paste... that's not possible.... I don't believe.

You can slow some people down a bit by disabling the right click on your site. It's not fool proof though. But I think this little jabascript code inserted into your header will do that:

code:

<script language="JavaScript">
<!--
// No rightclick script v.2.5
// (c) 1998 barts1000
// [email protected]
// Don't delete this header!
var message="The Right Click Feature has been disabled.";

// Message for the alert box
// Don't edit below!
function click(e) {
if (document.all) {
if (event.button == 2) {
alert(message);
return false;
}
}
if (document.layers) {
if (e.which == 3) {
alert(message);
return false;
}
}
}
if (document.layers) {
document.captureEvents(Event.MOUSEDOWN);
}
document.onmousedown=click;
// -->
</script>

You can use a robots.txt file to direct search engine spiders on what to and not to look at. Most main stream spiders will adhear... spam bots probably wont. Here's a link:

http://www.searchengineworld.com/robots/robots_tutorial.htm

Use of meta tags in pages to direct bots is also possible:

META Name: "Robots"
Supported Types: noindex | index | nofollow | follow
General Usage: <META name="Robots" content="index,follow">

If you don't want the page indexed and the links not followed use "noindex,nofollow"

You can prevent users from copying and pasting with java script using a "no right click" script. Also, I believe there are some meta tags that prevent highlighting also... but this may be for IE only and may or may not exists... lol I read to much and tend to forget things... lol

For javascripts have a look here:

Hope this helps.
