Can someone go step by step through the process of transferring a threads database to a new server. Assume I know nothing about databases(which I don't) Currently the Db dir is /usr/bin. Also is there anything else I should know when transferring a threads 6.4 board? Thanks

okay depends on the size of your database but you can use phpMyAdmin to back it up.. or you can download phpMyBackup and use that.. anyways copy the old database onto the new server and copy all threads and mods files from old to new and then make sure to change the paths to those of the new server.. remember also to point the domain to the new server.. you can keep both up that way until your ready to use new site...

There is some extremely helpful info in the MySQL forum here, take a little time to read about exporting/importing db's.

I find shell access is easiest, doing a mysqldump is quick, then ftp it to the new box, then restore it.

yes Little_Joe I agree with you completely! Shell access is great and a mysqldump is quick.. unfortunately alot of hosts aren;t offering shell access anymore or offer it at an extended price...
