I dunno the answer, but did you know that Corel and PSP accept pretty much any plugin that Adobe does? Almost every photoshop plugin works with the other major bmp editors..

Photoshop 5.5 (probably versions before and after that, too..) have a built-in filter set called Pixelate. You can use the Pixelate > Mosaic effect, and it does something similar to the microsoft effect. It's not exactly like it, in fact, the only real similarity is the blocky pixels. But that's the only thing I can think of. I have never seen a plugin that does that exact effect.

I'm guessing the boys at microsoft probably just did that graphic by hand; I mean, their own so-called "Graphics Application" (aka. PhotoDraw 2000) sucks the rigid shaft of Satan, surely they didn't do it in that. It's probably just done in Paint or something.

Those blocky things are going to be part of the default theme of the upcoming Whistler OS, if you didn't know. [Linked Image]

Sorry I can't be of more help.

DJ,

You might want to check out the photoshop tutorial here:

http://www.thinkdan.com/tutorials/photoshop/grid_effects-anim/index.html

You can probably use or adapt this for the effect you're after.

Save it in some folder inside your Photoshop directory. Then go into Photoshop, and on the right side of the PS desktop, you'll see a little window with two tabs on it: History, and Actions. Select the Actions tab. Just to the right of the tab, you'll see a little button with an arrow on it. Click the little arrow button and click the Load Actions... item on the menu that pops up. Then go find your action file and click Open. Finally, click the little "Play" button at the bottom of the Actions window to run your action.

If it's a text action, you should have some text on the canvas, just in case. But usually there will be a pop-up box that comes up as soon as you run the action, telling you to make a certain color text on a certain color background, or something like that. Click the stop button on that box, insert the text in the font that you want, and then click the Play button again to resume the action.
