OK - many of you have probably wondered why some of us have these "haxxor beans" under our name. These are beans showing our points generated for Team UBBDev in our effort to work together to help fight cancer!

What is Team UBBDev?
Team UBBDev is our entry in the Intel-United Devices Cancer Research Project. Team UBBDev is a joint venture with Infopop, UBBDev and ThreadsDev and is otherwise known as the Semi-Official UBBâ„¢ Cancer Haxxors. It's made up of Fellow hackers like yourself who have joined together and donated extra computer power to help search for a cure for cancer.

All are welcome and encouraged to join up and participate! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

What is the project
The project is being co-ordinated by the Oxford University and The National Foundation for Cancer research, along with Intel and United Devices. It is a peer-to-peer program, which combines the computing power of over 1,000,000 computers to help evaluate potential cures for cancer. You start with a target protein, then thousands of different combinations of molecules are evaluated against the protein. When it finds a potential match, it's marked as a hit. The results are then compiled so that scientists will know which molecules offer promise of a cure.

How can I participate?
You can participate by donating your brain. Not your brain per se, but spare processing power that your computer isn't using. All you need to do is download and install the UD Agent program. The program runs in the background without disturbing your computer, where it performs computation chemistry. After the program finishes with its sequence of molecules, the results are transmitted to the United Devices server, and a new work task is downloaded. The program is secure and will not detect or transmit any other files from your computer.

What are Points?
Each participating member generates points based on their contribution to the project. Points are awarded based on a calculation using the CPU time used to complete a task along with the power of your machine. Machine power is a weighted calculation taking into account your CPU Power, RAM, Drive Space and Internet Connection. By joining Team UBBDev, your results will also be added to our team total. Points are also used for promotional programs, such as contests and for charitable donations.

Where can I get the Team UBBDev Haxxors avatar?
Your points will also determine your Avatar ranking. When you join the team and generate your first results you will be rewarded with the Blue Avatar. When you have generated 10,000 points for Team UBBDev, you will be rewarded with the Bronze Avatar. When you reach 25,000 points you will receive the Silver Avatar and upon reaching 50,000 points, you will be rewarded with the Gold Avatar. Moving up the ladder... there is Platinum at 100,000 points, Coffee at 250,000, Code Red at 500,000 and Jolt at 750,000. We've recently added a few additional levels for our Power Haxxors.... Emerald at 1 million, Sapphire at 1.5 million, Ruby at 2.5 million and Diamond at 5 million, Uranium at 7.5 million and Plutonium at 10 million. Remember, you have to continue to participate in order to retain your Avatar. When you need your image updated after reaching a new milestone, please leave us a post in the "Team UBBDev Haxxor Image Updates" thread. It'll be sticky at the top of the "Chit Chat" forum here.. After confirming you've hit a new level your Avatar will be updated!

Where can I get more Information?
Complete information and instructions can be found here:
https://www.ubbdev.com/forum/haxxors.php
or by clicking anyone's haxxor image.

Where can I see current stats for our team?
If anyone wants to see the team stats go to http://www.statsman.info/udstats/343.html - and NOT the link elsewhere on this site, which goes to a porn site.

If you have further questions post them here.

Please help us by joining in this worthwhile cause. It's easy, it's free, and it's completely painless. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
Josh,

I am interested. My daddy died of cancer and Lou Gehrigs in 2003. What can I do to help?

Thanks,

Kristi Ann

Great! I gave you the blue bean to get started..... when you reach a new level, just post requesting your next "bean".

Thanks for helping out!

Thanks so much Josh! Blue is just one of my favorite colors

KristiAnn - what is your username on the UD agent - can't see you in the list of members for the team, and was concerned you may have a problem.
Thanks Ian for asking me! I am not sure why I put my name there at all. I apologzie, I took it out, I must have been super tired when I typed my name in there, sorry. I am still learning about this wonderful board and all it's threads. Thanks so mcuh for letting me join.

hey guys & gals

I loaded ud agent on my 2 new p4 - 2.4 comps. I logged them in under my name so now it shows I have 3 computers running for Ubb dev team My question is, I had them running 100% for 3 days now and I only made 2000 more points. Im tring to hit the 10g mark for a diff color bean. Is that a good jump for running this on 3 computers 24-7 at full speed? Or should I go back to just opne comp...
Posted By: Ian_W Re: Join Team UBBDev and Help Fight Cancer! - 11/29/2003 1:09 PM
With three computers you should produce 3 times as many points. But it will vary depending upon the spec of each machine. Keep up the good work.
Posted By: DrChaos Re: Join Team UBBDev and Help Fight Cancer! - 11/29/2003 2:03 PM
well. overnight I hit 5000. I guess im doing ok. It says that I am producing 14 points an hour and returning an average of 4 results per hour....
Okay, I must not understand too well. How and what do the points do for each of us?
Posted By: JoshPet Re: Join Team UBBDev and Help Fight Cancer! - 11/30/2003 6:22 AM
Basically you get points for donating processing time for Cancer research.

The points are just a way of keeping track. And we give the different color beans so that those who donate alot of processing power get credit and recogniation.

As a "team" we compete againsts other companies etc.....

It's a friendly "competition" as we are all working for a cure. But kinda fun. sorta like who can raise the most money, except we are seeing who can give the most processing power.

Thank you Josh!

So if I leave my comupter on all night and on the DSL I'm using it will help us as a team here to Fight Cancer!!!
Posted By: JoshPet Re: Join Team UBBDev and Help Fight Cancer! - 11/30/2003 8:19 AM
Yes.

I leave my PC on all the time. (I did turn it off when I was on vacation for whatever reason - but generally I never turn it off. )
Ian

I now belong to the other site.... as KristiAnn

I still can't see you on the Ubbdev Team on the United Devices site - if you have just joined it today, it might not show until tomorrow.
This web Site Ian~~> https://www.ubbdev.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php/ubb/forum/f/8

Is that the right site?? Oh, Check the Shout Box on UbbDev, I put something in it.

Oh, question Please... My Ud Site is doing it's thing with Cancer Research II, and Small Pox Research Project from my computer. Is this right??
Posted By: slayer60 Re: Join Team UBBDev and Help Fight Cancer! - 12/01/2003 10:41 PM
Both of those count for points towards a new bean here at threadsdev. You do have the option of choosing to focus on one or the other though.
Posted By: DrChaos Re: Join Team UBBDev and Help Fight Cancer! - 12/02/2003 10:46 PM
I am almost at 10g. get ready to "finally" change that bean.

I need the 2nd bean, woot!
Posted By: Ian_W Re: 20 Years - 12/11/2003 12:02 PM
Finally got to the 20 years mark in computer time.

Next stop the 2.5 million points mark - then it goes quiet for a looonnnggg time as I climb towards 5 million - there is a big gap there - so I will not get that change for another 2+ years

Possibly this is a too big a gap for people
Posted By: navaho Re: 20 Years - 12/31/2003 1:26 AM
I wonder if I can catch AA? I don't think any of us are going to catch you, Ian.
Posted By: Ian_W Re: 20 Years - 12/31/2003 1:39 AM
I am considering bowing out at 2.5 million (28,000 to go) - but 12 months ago today it was my father's funeral, and he died of Cancer, and earlier this year we found out that my mum has Cancer of the lungs and is very ill - with no real cure.

So it puts it all into perpective.

sorry to hear Ian
Posted By: navaho Re: 20 Years - 12/31/2003 2:52 AM
As am I.

Don't give up Ian.
Posted By: AllenAyres Re: 20 Years - 12/31/2003 7:24 AM
yes, don't give up - every bit helps.

I am ~1.34 million... it takes a while to get the next bean (1.5)
Posted By: JoshPet Re: 20 Years - 12/31/2003 11:08 AM
Sorry Ian. Yes, we never give up - keep those processors working away.

My slow emachin is still chunking - but I'm at 87,839. It's on all the time, although I did shut it off during the last vacation. But otherwise, it's on all the time.
Posted By: omegatron Re: 20 Years - 12/31/2003 1:43 PM
Yes sorry to hear Ian. I am only at 110K but I keep it going. I had stopped for awhile but then a friend was diagnosed and I got first hand knowledge at the horror of radiation treatments and chemotherapy.
Posted By: Ian_W Re: 20 Years - 12/31/2003 4:40 PM
Thanks Guys - I moved my office to my mums house in the autumn - so that she has some company - but she is not good at the moment - waiting for the nurse to call and see her. Perhaps being the anniversary of dads passing is not helping her.

Currently on 2,475,824 getting closer to the 2.5 mark

I am so sorry to hear this Ian, you mum is in my prayers!

Let's have some figures from people
Posted By: Zackary Re: Join Team UBBDev and Help Fight Cancer! - 08/06/2004 10:54 PM
Still moving slow here... May just set up that dedicated box sooner than planned. My mother-in-law has lung, bone, lymph, and ovarian cancer. We just found out a couple weeks ago. She's 57, and has been an ex-smoker for about 5 years.

My wife isn't dealing well with it. We're all focused on keeping a positive attitude, even though her doctors have given her about a year to live. Our baby is due sometime in the next week or so, I think that will bring some joy and positive feelings.

Well done Josh - hopefully others are still chugging along....

I am currently at 981,251 and am looking forward to breaking the 1 million mark soon! My Drumlines.org subteam of TeamUBBDev is 40 members strong and is currently at 2,579,781. I've never known anyone with cancer, but I know it's a terrible condition that needs to be erradicated.

Also could someone kindly update the page at https://www.ubbdev.com/forum/haxxors.php to show the correct link to the stats page - it should be http://www.statsman.info/udstats/343.html (now info not org, whioch is a porn site)

We just returned home from where my wife grew up. We got the call last Wednesday afternoon that her mother was in bad shape and we should get home NOW.

Her mother passed away in her home on Thursday afternoon, surrounded by those who loved her. Her battle with lung was fought hard, but we were unable to win this one.

Hopefully some day they'll come up with a cure, until then, I'll keep my PC chugging a long.
Posted By: Ian_W Re: Join Team UBBDev and Help Fight Cancer! - 11/23/2004 11:40 AM
Sorry to hear your news Zackary - having lost my mother to cancer of both lungs in April (she didn't smoke or drink), I know what it feels like.

Keep battling away...
Posted By: Zackary Re: Join Team UBBDev and Help Fight Cancer! - 11/24/2004 3:30 AM
Thanks Ian, I just re-read my post and realized how tired I was. I meant to say she had lung cancer. She did smoke for many years, but quit about 4 years ago and the type of cancer she had they said isn't generally caused by smoking. Not that I'd know the difference, the end result was the same.

We were all surprised at how quickly she went downhill. She was diagnosed in the end of July and gone by Thanksgiving.
Posted By: Zackary Re: Join Team UBBDev and Help Fight Cancer! - 12/28/2004 12:12 AM
Looks like I broke 100k, finally.

Well done

I would love to platinumize you - but I seem to have lost the right to upgrade

Will have to leave it to an admin - sorry.
Posted By: DrChaos Re: Join Team UBBDev and Help Fight Cancer! - 02/23/2005 11:37 PM

I went up in score in about 5 day and gained about 8000 points.

i now have it running on 3 computer

all are p3 2.4 with 1 gig mem and 80 gig hd's....
Posted By: Ian_W Re: Join Team UBBDev and Help Fight Cancer! - 02/23/2005 11:50 PM
Cool, keep going....

- I'm having my own battle at the top - another user (syng.org-Harry) is pushing around 50,000 a week and crept above me on a week on week basis - so I have had to increase my machines to try and out do him - LOL - he will probably come back again with an increased weekly total so will need to get up to 55-60,000 a week at this rate. LOL

All good fun...

If anyone wants to see the team stats go to http://www.statsman.info/udstats/343.html - and NOT the link elsewhere on this site, which goes to a porn site.

You should move up to 11th spot on 12th April or thereabouts - 10th might take a tad longer - but keep battling away
Posted By: DrChaos Re: Join Team UBBDev and Help Fight Cancer! - 03/09/2005 11:10 PM
what are you guys running as far as the tests go. Im doing the legand fit tests that take the longest. I get about 9 hours for each test to complete. There are, on average, about 400 to 600 samples to look for in each test before it completes.

Is there a way to get more done faster? Or be more productive? I feel im not doing the most I can do so far. I have 3 computer pounding away 24-7 non stop. But im not seeing the points come in.
Posted By: Ian_W Re: Join Team UBBDev and Help Fight Cancer! - 03/21/2005 9:32 AM
Hmmm (syng.org)Harry hit 57k last week I was trailing on 52k - will have to find even more machines so that I can overtake him again
Posted By: dparvin Re: Join Team UBBDev and Help Fight Cancer! - 03/21/2005 10:29 AM
How many machines are you running it on and for how many hours a day?
Posted By: DrChaos Re: Join Team UBBDev and Help Fight Cancer! - 03/21/2005 9:32 PM
im running it on 3 comps. All are p4 / 2.8 / with 80 gig drives. my rating on the app is a 144 and im doing the ones that take 8+ hours. Im getting about 700 "points" a day. I thought it should be higher.
Posted By: dparvin Re: Join Team UBBDev and Help Fight Cancer! - 03/21/2005 11:41 PM
I have it on two, but they are only on about 4-5 hours a day on average, one is 77 one is 100.
Might see if I can install it at work without them knowing
