Hey everyone. I want to know what you guys have done with your PHP wwwthreads forum as far as the customization.

So, give us the link to see your forum and tell us the experience you had customizing it, what you expect from having a board in your site, your goal with the forum, or anything you want to say.

Thank you.

http://www.extremeforums.org

(what i have done mostly is convert some of eiliens and others hacks into php)

small modifications that arn't seen by the eye, i don't remeber what i did exaclty.

inline images: when someone uploads an image it shows up on there post.

icons for images hack: when someone uploads something it shows up next to there post in postlist.

got rid of top menu, moved that into the header.php file.

have this http://www.extremeforums.org/index but i don't think i will use it in the future much. shows all the categories, when you are not logged in the login box is on the main page, if you are logged in, it disapears, also shows online users. and the modified w3tnews.php script is on that page.

have other things to do in my life, so i havn't really promoted it or done much to it.

hi,

I would suggest, if at all possible, limiting your customization to the CSS files, header and footer includes, and (of course) the config and theme files. The more files you edit, the more difficult it is to upgrade. Thank God for CSS []/w3timages/icons/smile.gif[/]

I managed to give w3t the proper color scheme, header banner, footer cruft, etc. by doing just that. Almost. I found that I had to modify some php code in main.inc.php to get the right footer. I agonized over that decision; I know it'll come back to haunt us time and again later on []/w3timages/icons/shocked.gif[/]

As a designer/developer who owns and operates a successful UBB forum, I've managed to talk two clients into using them in the last year. Here are the sites I've built from scratch:

My Pride and Joy:
hr-man.com

Client Sites:
kceaintouch.com This one launched this
week.
TNASSP (this guy hasn't promoted his bb at all - oh well)
The Corner Deli (no ubb - but developed in ASP)

My Other Sites:
Knoxlife.com
476 Design (my company - no ubb)
WebStrong Media(partnership with brother - no ubb)
Digital Portraiture(TM) (recent development in my life - portrait artist - go figure).

You have some nice sites. Good work.

I have a VERY active Neopets related forum (what can i say - it's not just a kids game ;P) here: http://www.neoitems.net/ . Currently about 50/60 users are joining a day and i always seem to have about 50/60 annons too.
I just installed the IIP which i adore and a couple of hacks related to better banning, keeping track of ip addresses & referrers and removing rating stuff. Now i just need to buy a more powerful server since mine is definitely feeling the strain!

http://www.syngnathid.org is the Internet's largest collective of syngnathid (pronounced SING-na-thid, and is the family of fishes containing seahorses, sea-dragons, pipefish, and ghost-pipefish).

For a listing of modifications both to UBB.threads and elsewhere, check the Announcements forum's sticky post called New Features.

Other cool things on the site are the Seahorse Anatomy 101, an interactive seahorse anatomy guide, and the Species Galleries, which contain some INCREDIBLE photography of some of the ocean's most mysterious creatures!

You guys are responding to a 2 year old post

Everything old is new again.

Hey! I haven't been here for two-years!! Just saw this post and in a shameless act of self-promotion decided to throw a chip in!

I was just checking out your Seahorse Anatomy 101. Very interesting. An anus on their belly, heart in their throat, kidneys that stretch along their spine, liver above the intestines, tiny stomach, and vaginal canal/ovipositor BELOW the anus. Really puts one's anatomy knowledge into perspective.

Question, where are the testicles or testicle-equivalent on the male, where the ovary is?
Posted By: Raconteur_dup1 Re: Show and Tell - 04/18/2003 8:18 PM
Yes, they are pretty anatomically incredible creatures. And yes, the seminal vessicles essentially replace the ovaries in males.

During mating, the female deposits up to 1000 eggs into the male's pouch, literally within 1-2 seconds of copulation. The male then does a little "dance" to situate the eggs in the copious folds of flesh inside the pouch, during which process he is inseminating them. He then carries the eggs to gestation (usually 18-24 days depending on species and water temp), and gives birth to the fry. It is the only true male pregnancy in the animal kingdom!

Glad you enjoyed the article!

Actually during the Spotlight contest when I was having a look at your site Chris, I went for a coffee and my girlfriend had a look at it. She read quite a bit on it and then came up with:

"They got it right hon! Males should carry babies!"

Doh!

Hehe!! Yeah, Nikos, it is funny... most of the women on our site feel the same way! Problem is I think our species would be doomed were that the case!

Tell me about it LOL
