Needed modifications:

showflat.pl:

edit,reply,previous,index,next,flat,threaded

make those look same as Favorite!, Print Thread etc or are you already working on it? That would help language translation.

Also same texts on post extras icons would be good or does it use too much space? So you could always know right way what everything does on screen. Someone said that there are those um alt texts but then again you need to move mouse over those to figure out what those options do = slower(?) :)

um and that lower right corner italic perl work gets cut.. add one space right after l character (known hack :)).

Making the other images for edit/reply, etc look like the new icons has been discussed in another thread on this board. It could be done, but I'm not much of an icon maker so I'm waiting for someone to come up with some ideas.

Adding the text to the post extras has been talked about as well. Currently it wouldn't take up too much space, but if we start adding more options down there it might. I know some admins/mods would like to have many of the post options for approving posts, moving posts, etc on the main post screen so these might get put down there eventually. So as we add more down there displaying the text along with them could end up taking alot of room.
Posted By: jriihi Re: language strings - 04/14/2001 4:35 PM
Good now we just need someone to make those and fast wink Or maybe i should try to do it..

As for post extras texts.. well currently texts would fit just fine so worry about it when its full? Maybe it could be config option to display texts with icons or just display icons for that bottom line of post? hm or maybe its just too easy to hack to add it to official release layout? :)
Ofcourse you added those new images alt texts for post extras icons to version 5.4 language files already?

Yes please - for *all* the icons. I prefer to make them hover for the alt text and getting rid of all that unwanted text manually could be a nightmare.

And showflat.pl screenshot here..

I wrote Index as All threads but its easily changed if we change to this format because its not part of image anymore smile All those images are gif format with transparent background as you can see from screenshots. All images are taken from these forums and modified (text cut out and background transparency added).

Yes! I'll buy that too... That's pretty much what I had in mind, too... How about wrapping it in tables to make them look like buttons? I wonder what that would look like...

I dont quite get what you mean by that. You want text and image together to look like button or just image look like button?

Posted By: Gerrit Re: language strings - 04/15/2001 10:18 AM
Well, either both together (icon + text) in one cell, with a colored background to imitate a button, or at least have a spacer between, like Scream has it here, the "|".

Here is | spacer screenshot. HTML code between is  |  so its same as other '|' things in version 5.4.

Posted By: jriihi Re: language strings - 04/15/2001 2:30 PM
Well so those um print thread etc button styles are not ok? I think its better if those other buttons look same way as Favorite! and Print Thread smile Look that | spacer screenshot for details.

Scream: What do you think about these 3 different layouts? All allow easy language translation.

And lets not forgot about traffic savings:
about 300 bytes in postlist.pl !
about 200 bytes and about 160bytes per every own post plus about 80 bytes per every post !

Amazing ;)

Yup, I'll like to see this in Version 5.4. A great helper for us who don't use English Interface.

Posted By: Gerrit Re: language strings - 04/16/2001 8:46 AM
I really love the version with the "immitation" buttons (table cells), at first glance you can hardly tell the difference, but I'm sure it loads a lot faster, is more flexible (language files!) and would also benefit those users who prefer to have graphics turned off for faster surfing.

Did you have time to check those gifs yet? Any change they get to release 5.4? :)

Some old imagesets dont really work after change but you can make it configuration option.. i mean that text after image.

Posted By: Rick Re: language strings - 04/17/2001 6:04 PM
Yep, I was working on this last night on the devel site. I added a new stylesheet class called .navigation to specify the colors. Those that don't want to have the text can just edit the generic language file and comment out those strings or blank them out.
Posted By: jriihi Re: language strings - 04/17/2001 6:09 PM
Sounds really great! smile
I used <font size="1">small text</font> ..what ever its in stylesheet thing to set those icon texts look same size as Print Thread etc they look bit too large compared to regular size atleast now at devel site. Also add one ' ' = non breakable space after text inside to make it not end so bad after links '</a>' tag or maybe its not so bad ..i dont know :)

Posted By: Eileen Re: language strings - 04/17/2001 9:45 PM
I agree with Juhana, they look wonderful but the text has to be smaller to match the new stuff.

Posted By: Rick Re: language strings - 04/18/2001 12:34 AM
Ok, a font size into the class so it can be a little smaller. Like jriihi said, I think maybe it needs one space after each text link to even things up?
Posted By: Gerrit Re: language strings - 04/18/2001 6:09 AM
Hey Scream,
I just noticed it's no longer just at the devel site but also here in the perl version! I think it's great!

What do you mean?
I wonder if the bgcolor of the cell could change when it's "greyed out"? It's not very clear which buttons are inoperative at present.

Posted By: jriihi Re: language strings - 04/18/2001 10:01 AM
Much more clear than before since there is even no link and image is grey as it used to be smile Only text is black and it used to be grey also. I would remove that table cell background coloring and make them look like Favorite! and Print Thread but its just my opinion :)

You know - I think you might be right. The colored cells look a bit 'muddy'.

Posted By: Gerrit Re: language strings - 04/18/2001 10:48 AM
Oh no, the table cells are excellent - if you don't like them, you could always have them the same color as the rest of the menu background and it won't show a cell. Regarding the inconsistency - I'd love to see the Favorite etc. done the same way, looking like buttons (via cell coloring) []/testimages/icons/smile.gif[/].

"muddy" *LOL* well - that all depends on which colors you choose, right? To me it doesn't look muddy... we must be using different color schemes here...

I've just switched to 'Desert' and you're right - they look good in that scheme. In 'the blues' they don't look so good...

I just think one space after link is needed because i think that cell ends too soon (right after last character).

Funny, I'm using blues... I guess then it's just a matter of taste when it appears muddy... maybe a lighter color would look better though!

Seems like Scream make that one space change to those cells and now they quite ok. I just like that Print Thread style ie icon text space | space icon text better than colored cell but otherwise its now ok because text can be now translated. And you can change that background color per stylesheet in 5.4 as Scream said (this is to Eileen smile..

I agree with you on the consistent look []/testimages/icons/smile.gif[/] but I would prefer to see them all in table cells []/testimages/icons/wink.gif[/]... but since this is a matter of taste, I wonder if it could be admin choice which way they are to be shown - but then again, that might add too much extra code []/testimages/icons/crazy.gif[/]
