I recently upgraded to the new photopost. It works great but broke my users ability to show images in posts. the new photo posts have a number as the character in the address.

how do I fix my board to allow numbers? is this a security issue if I do?

Just to clarify, the numbers are to prevent your browser from caching the image. Because we allow editting of images, we have had problems with users images being cached and confusing them when their updates didnt show.

All URls are prepended with a ?XXXX number to fool the cache into pulling the image fresh each time.

Michael!!
I just gotta say I LOVE that feature. I DON'T want them putting images in my forum with the image tag - as my galleries are paid access and my forums are not. So the ?xxxx foils the image tag.

I saw it as an anti-hotlinking device as well.

Yeah, some clever people can remove the ?xxxx but nobody has figured that out yet.

I told Smilesforu how to just remove the ?XXXX in another Thread he asked in Forum Design.

Just don't tell my users.

LOL I promise I won't but it really is not that hard to figure out if they think about it for a second.

You don't know some of my users.

Well I assume we are talking the measurerection site. Well I don't wanna think what they could do if they knew how to circumvent the security you have on the Photo Gallery Might be quite horrid.

oops, should have saw this before posting over at photopost... but my users don't like this feature. After a few years of telling people how to upload a photo and add it to their post, now if they follow my instructions, they get a red X.

I can see the use for this... but for most people, especially for my gallery, they upload photos to the gallery for the sole purpose of adding an image to their post. So now my PM box is full of dozens of questions about the upgrade that doesn't work as they have been told

Jeremy that was my issue too... it instantly created a new workload for me. My users are catching on now ... would love the abilty to switch on and off. Mine would be off

Yeah, I have informed the users of the change, but being most of my users are far from computer savvy, it won't help them all.

I too would like to see this as an option, or have threads display images with URL's that don't end in .jpg/.gif/etc...

Hey, I installed PP4 now and gave it the look of my forum. I also used the hack to make it using my .css and all the stuff.

Now I tried to bring some galleries within my main forum page. There is a hack available for this from Dana but this is not working for me.

Can anyone assist?
Omegatron maybe you can cause I see this is working on your page...

I posted in the other forum for you.

The ?XXXX is not a security feature - its something I had to add because we offer some limited editting of images within the Edit Photo area. As such, when someone makes a change and then goes back to the showphoto page - well, their browser often cached the image so I got a ton of "why didnt my photo change" support questions.

Forcing the browser to use an uncached image was the only way I could find to get around this.

You can always take out the ?$rand from showphoto.php if you want to remove it and dont care about browser caching.

Thanks, that is probably the easiest solution for our site, since my users don't manipulate images except rarely

LOL Josh too late. You had me be silent on telling people how to link the images but you forgot to tell Michael.

Now the word is out on how to do it.

LOL
I doubt whether my users come here.

Hi,

some of my users reported me that the output of the gallery is complete crap. I checked this with my browser and its working so I asked them to send me a screenshot and there it is:

http://www.clanforums.com/sysop/FU.jpg

I thought first that this is only a problem of one user but more and more are reporting this to me.

Any idea?

Turn off Zlib compression in one of them. If you are integrating them - you can't turn Zlib compression on in both products. As you can't compress it twice.

Try turning off Zlib compression in Photopost or Threads.

Yeah Boy we know what that is. We have seen that before Josh.

aaaaaaaaaaaaah ok thx

Omegatron was so nice to solve the problem with me via phone. The problem was that I am using a prefix for my pp installation and my forum but the hack is not taking care of this.

PP4 has as new feature the option to choose table prefixes during the installation and this hack did not check this.

Omegatron will update it I think.

MANY MANY THANKS FOR YOUR HELP CHUCK
