I'd go FreeBSD, if you are comfortable with it and/or your control panel works with it. Redhat 9 sucks badly. Ask myself of Josh Plus that is being phased out, so your only real option is enterprise (might as well buy a win2k3 server) or Fedora. So far I'm extremely pleased with Fedora, but time will tell.

I've only avoided FreeBSD in the past because for a while they had some real troubles getting cPanel to work properly on it, but I think FBSD has much better support for most major control panels now, but I haven't been following too closely.

I'm glad the subject came up. I am looking at moving to a new host and am considering FreeBSD, but my biggest concerns were have to do with:
1. Moving my ubbthreads db from my Redhat Linux server to the FreeBSD. I heard there might be some problems there, in particular with the user passwords. Can someone shed some light on this?
2. If ImageMajic is supported, i.e. PhotoPost, etc.

As far as control panels, I'm having a look at H-Sphere. Any thoughts on this control panel? I've been using cpanel.

Thanks for any input.

I am using Red Hat Fedora Linux Core 1, ALthough it is supposed to be a development release I have not had any real issues with it at all, It is very stable for me. I also use webmin to do full control on the server and had some minor issues with webmins integration mainly it did not seem to work properly with Named running in a chroot jail. (Named worked properly but dns records needed to be entered manually.) Other than that. My entire setup seems to work well for me.

We are using Fedora now as well.

I am so pleased - I'll be cancelling my RedHat 9 Server from H E double hockey sticks tomorrow. I've moved all my clients off to new vertex hardware.

All my gaming servers are running on Debian. I am working on moving my forums there as well. So far I havent had any issues in the three years I have been running that OS but we will see once I get the Forums up.
