I just thought I would test out this new hack. A lot of my visitors wanted to know what time messages were posted according to their clocks, as many of my visitors are from outside the US and don't exactly know our time zones that well. So I wrote a hack that basically shows the current times in other cities around the world using the UBB variables and server time. It's in a Beta stage right now, but seems to work well. If you want to check it out, here it is:

http://www.vhlinks.com/cgi-bin/vhlforum/worldtime.cgi

There's some other stuff that needs to be done to it, like making a control panel for it and allowing you to add more time zones than I have as the default, which is 15. So I'm working to tell get all the done as well.

Looks great! Will users be able to save a time zone in their profile and have the times adjusted according? I know my user base (40% international) will really like this hack.

Thanks,
-Chris

This looks excellent...Chris, i am not sure how this could be accomplished...perhaps you could have a way to subtract/add the number of hours for the time difference between the current UBB and the users time..

Chris, I don't of a way to do that, it sounds like in order to accomplish that you'd have to have a login system of some sort.

I need to clean the code up, it's pretty messy, and do a couple more things to it, it will probably take me a couple days before it's ready to go.

Slurpee-

I was thinking about something in user preferances, where they would enter "EST" or "PST" or whatever. In the control panel you would have entries like "EST", "-5" where the number is the offset from GMT. Then you could just add or subtract that from the hour numbers wherever the time is displayed. It wouldn't be easy, but... just thinking.

I've been waiting for some time to have a time zone hack. (Note to self: Why didn't you do it?). This is great. Why not also have something like this alogn the bottom of ultimate.cgi:

EPT-18:00 GMT-06:00 WPT-01:30

this would really help me keep track of myself.

Just a thought [Linked Image]

I've got that one on my board...useful to know as well. Some people have recloned that if you got too many hacks it can mess it up, but I got god knows how many i got on mine, so shouldnt be a problem.

Many Hacks on a forum might just slow the speed of your forum a bit down, Having alot of hacks won't stuff up your forum but you'll need to be more careful.
