Since you closed the last topic before I could give my 2 cents, I have to open a new topic.

Please explain this "designed" behavior.

If you delete the member name, everything associated with this name will be deleted, including member_name in memberslist.cgi, the member_number.cgi of this member_name, email of this member_number in emailfile.cgi, even the membertotal.cgi is subtracted to reflect the correct total number of members. Then, why is it not deleted in public_names.cgi ?

When one registers with a public name being different from a member name. If the member name is deleted. The next person can sign up with this member name, is that stealing==bad?

If one registers with no public name, and by default the public name=member name. Now if the member name is deleted, the public name is not. Then noone can sign up with this member name.

To me, this is clearly a BUG.
