I would like to be able to have a random link appended to every email that goes out from my board. For instance, the registration email, password reminder, email change, etc.

I think the easist way to do this would be to have something pull from a pool of URLs with text associated with them, for instance.

This email sponsored by : ABC Corp.com www.abccorpservices.com

Does anyone think this is feasible?

Anything is doable, but I dont understand exactly what your asking so i cant say yes.

Sorry for not being more clear. I think I had the half of the conversation with myself and didn't include anyone else laugh

I would like to have an admin page within cp.cgi that would enable me to add different sponsors that would be made either active or not. Each of these sponsors' URLs and description would be added to every out-going email.

If someone registered, the email they received would have:

----------------------------------------
UBB.COM - Ultimate Bulletin Board Network
https://ubbdev.com

Do you know what I mean now?

Anyone?

Your second message was confusing, but I understand the first one wink

For example, a list of possible sentences in an email: (it chooses randomally)

This email is sponsored by ABC Corp.
This email is sponsored by UBBDev.com.
This email and forums are sponsored by Infopop.com.

Right?

Yes, exactly - but it can be controlled through the control panel.

Additionally, it would be nice if the UBB would track these click-throughs, etc. As in.. http:yoursite.com/ultimatebb.cgi=sponsor_links?45

Does that make sense? - So you would ad a sponsor, their verbaige and the url - then it would create the url like above with each respective URL that forwards to the sponsor site and tracks the amount of times sent out in an email as well as the clicks.

Does anyone want to see this as well?

Wait for 6.2.2 before doing this hack please. smile

It does sound like a very nifty idea.

I understand... Sounds cool...

Why wait?

The mailing routines change signifigantly in 6.2.2.
Posted By: stupidboy.com Re: Sponsored Emails - 03/07/2002 8:47 PM
In that case ... Does anyone have an E.T.A. on 6.2.2 ?

I would really like to have this features as quickly as possible. It will be a great way to create additional marketing channels. You could "sell" the rights for a sponsor to one specific area (new registration, lost password, private message notification, topic reply notification, etc)

The idea of tracking everything and controlling it within the cp.cgi is what will make it that much more robust.

When is 6.2.2 being released so that perhaps someone who also is interested in a mod such as what is described above could begin to try it out.

Anyone?

We have not set a release date for 6.2.2.
Posted By: stupidboy.com Re: Sponsored Emails - 06/27/2002 8:08 PM
Well, it's 6.3.1 now. Is anyone willing to take a look at this one? We all can benefit from it, I'm sure. Just thinking about demographic specific sponsorship. You could ensure that your COOPA members were receiving the nintendo and xbox ads, while the 25+ were getting the maxim magazine and j-crew ads.

Additionally, it would be super fantastic to be able to add blurbs of HTML or raw ad server code to these admin areas.

Come on, people... can't you feel this?

Pretty please?

sounds like a great idea actually smile

I promise guys/girls... If I knew anything about perl, I'd have done this ages ago. Heck, this could potentially save us all a lot of money with out sites. If you can offset bandwidth fees with non-intrusive marketing, what could be better?

I'd be happy to write a white paper about this in great detail, if only someone would volunteer to help it move forward.
