Just a question, how much bandwidth would this portal use? Would it strain a server? or be just like a normal HTML page?

Thanx darlings

Bandwidth shouldn't be any different than what you already have, unless more people start showing up cuz they like your site better smile

I have a feeling that this project is going to be moving at a pace that won't allow any of us to tired of anything...

I honestly think this could change a lot of peoples perception of what a UBB "site" is.

it will bring a lot of people back to ubb who were thinking of converting to vB anyway
Posted By: Lord Dexter Re: Bandwidth - 07/12/2002 10:48 AM
Yeah, something that was really missing from UBB was a portal.
Posted By: vLIMIT Sandman Re: Bandwidth - 07/12/2002 1:07 PM
it will add a certain touch of full ness that doesnt require constant matinence and not as much work as a html encoded side

and give you a nice warm fuzzy feeling...

I am a little bit confused. Isn't 'portal' just a catch word? I dont see that much of a difference between so called portal sites and the UBB software itself (with a few hacks).

The one thing I see that would make a true portal site would be incorporaton of content from other locations:

Search Engine
Movie Listings
Weather Reports

Most of the things I see here referred to as portal ideas seem more like community ideas. Is there thought to trying to build a Yahoo out of UBB or am I just confused?

Well, A.J. I've been trying to build things around the UBB. I have accoplished this with my PHP based website. I have released a couple of the pieces (the Ported PHP based Login routines and ubbnews.php) I believe that UBB.portal is referring to a UBB specific PostNuke like interface for the main page.

UBB.portal may be taking a different direction than I am going with mine, but the solution I'm using works well for what I need it to. And my pages load pretty snappy.
