I have an officer in the army whos troups are headed to Iraq. He wants to use a forum on my UBB board to allow the troops and their families to leave messages for each other. However he needs the ability to require the posts to be approved before publishing to prevent anyone from passing sensitive info (like locations) through the messages. Can this be done? If so how?

Which version of UBB are you using?

I'm looking for the same feature, because our manager would like to censor and check postings before they are visible for the public.

We use latest official german version of ubb.classic 6.5, but if it's needed we can update the ubb to the actual version.

Are there any features or hacks available?

Brett is developing the hack now, but I don't know how far he is

I am nearly complete, mostly using localhost nowadays; just making absolute sure there's no big bugs or something like that. But i can tell you, this hack won't be able to work on 6.5.

Thanx for the fast replies. I'll prepare an update to version 6.7.1.

Hopefully this will satisfy the manager, so i don't have to kill the 4 year old community and start again with a simple old guestbook.

@Brett
What functions does the hack include? Is every Mod able to approve the posts? Exists there some kind of posting queue? Will this work for the whole board or is it possible to activate the hack for some special forums?

Yes, every mod for their own forum will have the ability to approve posts, from the control panel. The queue will be seperate foreach forum, based on status.

e.g. Senior Members would need approval in forum a, whereas only junior members would need approval in forum b, it doesn't matter.

Here's a pic of the edit forum:

And the actual approval screen:

It's not yet complete. I put in to pm the author if needed. The only thing left to do is to implement the actual edit queue, and to not display the individual post, if in approval process.

Brett, when will your site be back up for downloading your hack..?
Posted By: Brett Re: Pre-approving posts - 06/30/2004 11:01 PM
The site's been going up and down because of a host server move, as of right now, the links work(at least for me).

I am currently moving to a new apartment today, so i will put up a back up site either later tonight or tomorrow.

the server is currently up, you just have to wait for dns to propogate

Brett, I hope your moving to a new apartment is going well. When do you think that the hack is downloadable at your site?

There are a few members waiting for the relaunch of the community. wink

This looks nice. I would like to be able to turn something like this on only for guest posters so if someone wasn't logged on, I could decide if I wanted to keep their post or not. I've tried disallowing guest posts, but in 6.7, this doesn't seem to really work, as guests can still post.

That's a setting that still works. You can set it so they can post in some forums, but not others, so check your "edit forum" page, second tab

Ian, you are the bomb! The individual forum thing was overriding the overall setting. I have about 60 forums, so this took a while, but it did work. I should have known better, but I needed a boost.
