UBB.Dev
Welcome to the second semi-annual Beyond Compare/UBBDev/ThreadsDev combo Content Rulez Contest - a contest designed to give import to what matters most in any website - engaging content.

This contest focuses on the Content of your site. Basically, we want you to provide us with examples that you think best represent your forums. To enter into the contest, you must provide us with the following:

  • A brief description of what your forums is all about. It's purpose, the type of users you attract, and how long the community has been together.
  • Links to three individual threads that you feel best exemplify your board, at least one of these threads must be at least 1 month old.

Entries must be submitted prior to Sunday, April 11th, 11:59pm CST, after which time we'll lock up this thread and start judging.

Staff and members of both sites are welcome to enter up to 2 sites. Each entry will be evaluted by UBBDev's and ThreadsDev's members, who will vote on which site they feel best serves its audience. Seperate polls will be done on both sites with total votes between the 2 added together to determine the winner.

Note: that we will not be voting on which threads we like best, but the ones that we feel best represent the purpose of your forums and make a positive contribution to your community.

Now for the fine print:
  • Eligible entries can be any legal full-release UBB™.classic or UBB™.threads. This includes older version 5.x boards!!! If you have a pirated board...don't bother entering.
  • Forum must have been established at least three months ago
  • Any warez, porno or warez/porn related site, or sites with links, banners, pop-ups to any warez or pornographic sites need not apply. We may exclude any other site that we deem to be inappropriate or contains inappropriate content, or content deemed to be inappropriate...you get the point.
  • Sites that illegally hide/remove/modify the Infopop copyright
  • Links to threads which contain excessive profanity or vulgar language will be removed. If your site is best represented by "inmaturity" then this is probably not the contest for you.

Entries can also be disqualified for any other reason at our discretion, with or without notice to the entrant.

The winner will have their site featured in the April U-Zine, will receive some primo free advertising with a link in our sidebar, will receive a nifty Custom Status indicating that you are the King/Queen of Content, a spiffy Certificate to proudly display on your site and a complimentary license for the ultimate software any hardcore forum modifier would need - Scooter Software\'s Beyond Compare ! rockband

Good luck!
can UBB.classic forums that are running non-public betas be entered?
yes
I think the fine print is engaging content. Good luck to all laugh

First bbs ever within germany, swiss and austria about electronic music.

Our users started a soccer-cup three years ago with teams from all over germany (Hamburg, Frankfurt, Cologne, Munich, Berlin...) to meet each other, so www.217cup.de is a fansite dedicated to my bbs and the event was voted twice as one of the best parties for electronic music in germany in the 'groove'-magazine, on the other hand a soccerteam was founded by kicked users and they started some sort of anti-fansite called www.los-cerrados.de *g*

Technoforum.de is about all aspects of electronic music, currently more than 8.500 tracks produced by our users are discussed, about 700 sets mixed by our users are ready to download. Technoforum.de was voted again and again as one of the most important websites for electronic music by readers of following print-magazines: de-bug.de, groove.de, intro.de and raveline.de in 2001, 2002 and 2003, wired.com asked me for an interview concerning a friends website and even techno.de asked for an interview.

Threads even YOU might find funny/interesting:

Note: Most of our site is built on reviews, news, operating systems, and random crap... But here's 3 topics that are a good starter wink ...
Short Linux Modem\'s discussion
BASH discussion
Chess Championship we have going on

Basically our forum was setup in 1999 as a place for site members to get together and yack at eachother. Our site was established in 1998 and sold to me in 2001 after the owner decided that he didn't want to deal with it anymore... I moved the site from a WinNT machine to a Redhat machine in 2001 with HostNuke and never looked back...

The majority of the site is configured and functional however there are some small sections (that I challenge you all to find) that are still non-functional as we've needed to recode portions of the site here and there after certain issues have arised...

Our site is dedicated for relaying news that we find interesting and important, it's gotten a little slow over past months but we're taking on new staff to handle the leway of that.

Our BBS is running a nice portion of modifications that you can get a list of here: http://www.undergroundnews.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?/topic/26/60.html
Our news on the various portions of the site (including our Store ) is relayed from the BBS using the UBB PHP News addon.

Any questions, feel free to ask...

Our forum is home for our on-line gaming clan the Old Geezers. We are a mature bunch of gamers that value fun and teamwork over winning. Old Geezers was started by "older" gamers that at the time were surrounded by a majority of 13-20 year old "kids". Being over 25 we were "old" compared to the majortiy.

We started out playing Half Life's extension Team Fortress Classic. This was back in June of '99. I joined the clan in October of '99 and got right to work on getting us set up with a ubb forum. The group has been great in allowing me to learn at their expense as I would add hacks and mods. Many times breaking the forums and losing posts. We have had several complete reinstalls as well.

Our small community is mostly made up of our gaming clan and those we have played with and against. Others have stumbled upon us and sought refuge among our mature and eclectic gaming group. Most of our forums are private and only accessible by clan members. Even still, we have other gamers who stop by and socialize with us in out public forums.

Many games have come and gone. Currently we have a strong Ghost Recon squad that competes. We also have a thriving EverQuest Guild "Ancients of the Realm". We have our own game servers and often host gaming nights where we get together and play MechWarrior 4 or Unreal Tournament 2004 and we even dust off our "walkers" and play some Team Fortress once in a while.

Topics you may find interesting:
Greetings from other elder gamers! a thread that keeps coming back to life.
Update on daughter a real tear jerker.
Half-Life...TWO our banter over an anticipated game title.

Since most of the site is private I have set up an account for your access.

Some of the site is still off limits to this account. Like the Ghost Recon section since they are in competition.

Thanks for looking. smile
ok, been here a while and this is my first contest, so please go easy on me tipsy

About our site:

http://www.praisecafe.org

Established in October 1999 as www.stand318.com we were the online arm of a local university's Christian-based ministry started by a group of my friends. Both the brick-n-mortar group and the online were/are fairly cutting edge, ministering mostly to people who don't normally attend a church somewhere or those who just weren't being reached by the methods their parents and grandparents liked. In the last year our name has changed, but we're still the same JesusFreaks laugh

For content we have a photo gallery powered by imagefolio, it's ubb-integrated and allows members to create their own gallery as well as chronicle our events, meetings, and trips:
http://www.praisecafe.org/imagefolio/imageFolio.cgi

We also have space for an ezine:
http://www.praisecafe.org/thelink/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi?category=2
a couple of blogs:
http://www.praisecafe.org/thelink/ultimatebb.php?category=1
and a kickin online radio station: [Linked Image] (click that badge in the right column at our site to launch it).

The central part of our site is our forums:
http://www.praisecafe.org/ubb/ultimatebb.php

We believe everyone should have balance in their lives - spiritual, physical and social, so we try to keep topics varied. Our general topics forum is one of our busiest, we discuss movies, music, and books in our \'word on the street\' forum, we share poetry and creative writing in the wow forum, prayer requests , private forums for men and women to discuss more private issues tipsy , and even a forum for Bible study wink .

Our last 2 forums is where I post our 3 topics that probably best represent the content of our site.
What it means to be single and Christian - a topic that ended up stretching 14 pages, we talk about singleness, sex, dating, etc... topics that are usually glossed over, if ever talked about, in Sunday School smile

What makes you, You? - websites can be fairly impersonal, one of the best parts about online communities is that we can interactively reveal parts of ourselves to make others realize they aren't as uniquely weird as they thought:

:p

God Can\'t Love Me - a more serious topic, we all have times in our lives we feel like if God is real, He hates me.
quote:
[qb]My friend told me about God. How can God love me? I don't even love myself. If God is love, how come I hurt so bad? Why am I so confused. My friend said God will forgive me...I can't even forgive myself. God must hate me. All these things are going wrong in my life. I don't even think God is real. And even if he's real, why would he care about me? Alot of people tell me I'm beautiful, but I hate myself. I look in the mirror and hate what I see. Once I even thought about killing myself. I tried, but then I stopped. Can God love someone who thinks like that? I don't even think God can help me.[/qb]
We dealt with hate, child abuse, abandonment, and perfect love. We don't have all the answers, but there's more than a few willing to look for them when someone needs them.

Bonus topic:

Men are NOT from mars tipsy - how do we deal with each other as men, women and humans?

Thanks for the opportunity to show our site off, win or lose, grab a cup of coffee and join us in silly or serious discussion smile
