and in home + 82 F ... I live in Poland or on Sahara?
Posted By: JoshPet Re: + 87 F - 06/05/2003 10:35 PM
Ouch... No air conditioning I take it?
Posted By: AKD96 Re: + 87 F - 06/05/2003 10:40 PM
Is 82F unusual for Poland? (That's about 26C, right?) What kind of humidity do you have there?
Posted By: Ian_W Re: + 87 F - 06/05/2003 11:29 PM
We had that last week - time to turn off the central heating

Air conditioning is not very common in many parts of Europe.

Must admit though we ought to follow the American way of having big ceiling fans.

Although the mistake we make, especially in the UK - is to open the windows - when we ought to close the curtains to keep the hot air out.

Posted By: slayer60 Re: + 87 F - 06/05/2003 11:35 PM
The ceiling fans seem to be disappearing here in the states.
Posted By: Ian_W Re: + 87 F - 06/05/2003 11:37 PM
More air conditioning then?
Posted By: Slawek_L Re: + 87 F - 06/05/2003 11:43 PM
During day, in Warsaw was +33C and this temperatore has been for about 6-10 days! And will be for 3 next
Posted By: AKD96 Re: + 87 F - 06/06/2003 12:40 AM
Ceiling fans have become more of a decoration nowadays. Air Conditioners are the norm now - nothing is built without it.
Posted By: Slawek_L Re: + 87 F - 06/06/2003 12:54 AM
But I live in building form 1979... and I haven't air Condition in flat
Posted By: AKD96 Re: + 87 F - 06/06/2003 1:49 AM
Well gee. No wonder, that's old. The building for my flat was built in 1995.
Posted By: navaho Re: + 87 F - 06/06/2003 1:58 AM
Hey! I was built in 1963. You calling me old?
Posted By: JoshPet Re: + 87 F - 06/06/2003 3:02 AM
If the coffee mug fits......

Posted By: navaho Re: + 87 F - 06/06/2003 4:54 AM
Oh you!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted By: JoshPet Re: + 87 F - 06/06/2003 4:59 AM
Ouch.
Posted By: navaho Re: + 87 F - 06/06/2003 5:22 AM
It is so hot in my apartment the glue that holds up the neon light in one of my computers softened, dropping the neon tube into one of the fans, making a hell of a racket.

:melting:

I have no A/C. It only gets hot here one or two days a year normally. But with 6 computers and everything else running in this room it's HOT!

I might go back to the office. It's air conditioned.
Posted By: JoshPet Re: + 87 F - 06/06/2003 5:26 AM
I have AC and a ceiling fan in my den.... which is a loft over my living room. It gets hot up here though because heat rises.
Posted By: navaho Re: + 87 F - 06/06/2003 5:31 AM
Stupid neon light is reflecting off the mirror and into my eyes. I can't get my hands in there to fix it, it is too hot.

I don't want to shut that machine off because it's too close to finishing a Team UBBDev work unit and I am -->||<-- this close to making a pass for 6th place on the team.

I think it's 6th. I am too hot to remember.

Bah. givin up the body for the team, ya, that's me.

Posted By: JoshPet Re: + 87 F - 06/06/2003 5:33 AM
I never understood the team UBBDev thing. I have a crappy Emachine PC that is almost always on - and usually on who's online here and that's it. Could that be helping something somewhere?
Posted By: navaho Re: + 87 F - 06/06/2003 5:34 AM
If it can count to 10 it can help. Yes.
Posted By: JoshPet Re: + 87 F - 06/06/2003 5:35 AM
Does it slow your PC down or anything - I never understood the exact concept. Somehow it helps fight cancer?
Posted By: navaho Re: + 87 F - 06/06/2003 5:43 AM
It does slow down your computer. It makes your CPU run at 100% all the time. Any spare CPU cycles it can use it will use.

Yes, it is using the computing power of your computer, along with everyone else's, to do complex mathematical work that would take one super computer years to do.

We're doing some work on the relationships between various proteins. AA can descrive perfectly what we're doing. I can comprehend it, but not enough to explain it back to you.

AA?
Posted By: AKD96 Re: + 87 F - 06/06/2003 5:44 AM
You're in Seattle, right Navaho? My mom lives out near there, in Silverdale. They don't have AC in their house either, and it was built 2 years ago! I guess it's a standard thing out there. That's just weird to me.
Posted By: navaho Re: + 87 F - 06/06/2003 5:46 AM
I am and it is.

When I moved out here I asked the real estate agent if my apartment had central air.

She laughed and said no, it has a fireplace.

Whne I asked a co-worker why she laughed he said that it never gets that hot out here.

WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted By: JoshPet Re: + 87 F - 06/06/2003 5:47 AM
Can you turn it off if you need to or are having problems on the computer?
Posted By: AKD96 Re: + 87 F - 06/06/2003 5:48 AM
I have a cold-cathode black light tube in my computer. Since I have ShoutCast streaming on it and have to leave it on, I turned off the light so the Mrs could sleep. It has a little switch on the wire.
Posted By: navaho Re: + 87 F - 06/06/2003 5:53 AM
Turn off the neon light? Yes, I can.

I just turned that computer off. Even with 7 fans it's so hot that I'm afraid of damaging it. The ambient air is so hot that all those fans are not cooling it.

The machine sitting next to it is reading 177 degrees F, CPU temp. Guess I need to shut it off too.
Posted By: JoshPet Re: + 87 F - 06/06/2003 5:53 AM
he he
I meant the UBB Dev thing.
Posted By: navaho Re: + 87 F - 06/06/2003 5:54 AM
Yes, you can shut off the UD program too, just like any other program. But I leave it on when the computer is on.
Posted By: AllenAyres Re: + 87 F - 06/06/2003 5:55 AM
Here's a page put together by tacks and deb that give a great overall view of UD and it's purpose...

https://ubbdev.com/haxxors/

It really is a great project, live long enough and you'll have cancer.

I have ceiling fans in most every room in my house... they help with dispursing the heat in the winter and cold in the summer... I believe they make a significant difference in my utility bills
Posted By: JoshPet Re: + 87 F - 06/06/2003 6:04 AM
Gee but we don't have coffee beans here to earn.

What team should I join..... or is infopop, UBBDev and ThreadsDev all on one team?
Posted By: AllenAyres Re: + 87 F - 06/06/2003 6:19 AM
we're all the same team... and using the coffee beans can be arranged
Posted By: JoshPet Re: + 87 F - 06/06/2003 6:22 AM
I'd be happy with 5 stars.
Posted By: JoshPet Re: + 87 F - 06/06/2003 6:33 AM
OK - I joined. If it says "primary task is executing" it's doing it's thing right? I don't need to do anything else?

I joined the team and it said "congratulations AA is your captain". Eye Eye captin!

FYI= the links on that page to their site to join and get the software don't work anymore.

You need to log into your profile and be sure you are opted into or out of your selections. There are two to choose from right now. Set the amount of disc space it can use to 10 gigs.

That disc space was for an old old internet speed thingum they were using that has not been active for a year, but if you choose less you get less points. :sigh:

I also turn off the durn screen saver. It installs and activates a screen saver that is a mega CPU hog. That defeats the purpose.

Welcome to the team

Cool.

I've done 2% of a small pox research project.
Posted By: JoshPet Re: + 87 F - 06/06/2003 9:27 AM
Woah...
Where's pink when we need him.... I single handedly steered this thread from the temperature in Poland to Air Conditioning, to ceiling fans, to computer temperatures, then on to Team UBBDev.

I have however allowed my computer to process 26% of some Smallpox research project.

I'm calling the off topic police!

He's in Cuba.

Why don't you get a window unit? We live in the north east where it isn't suppose to get that hot(When I got here last year in Aug they "were dying at 85F". It was in the 90s several times last year.) The house is heated by radiant heat, so, no duct work. I think 4 window units handled the entire 2 story house. The units even have remotes and timer functions. That might be an option for you.
Posted By: tackaberry Re: + 87 F - 06/09/2003 3:23 PM
I hate the heat.

Ceiling fans a good, but A/C is better. Although nothing refreshes you quite like a nice hawaiian punch...hey kool-aid

Josh thanks for joining the team!
Posted By: JoshPet Re: + 87 F - 06/09/2003 4:05 PM
I've already got like 1500 points.
Posted By: tackaberry Re: + 87 F - 06/09/2003 4:09 PM
You guys need to get the ubbdev haxxor icons displayed here.

Josh, you would qualify for the 'Blue Elvis'
Posted By: JoshPet Re: + 87 F - 06/09/2003 4:27 PM
When we go to 6.3 - I think we are going to promote Team UBBDev and run with it.

My "Admin selectable Images" mod could be applied to this need easily.
