Is anyone using or having any luck with these? It looks like a pretty good setup.
Posted By: JoshPet Re: Ads by google - 10/09/2003 10:16 PM
I use these.

Yes, you can make a few dollars.... sometimes just pennies a click.

I was using them as an effort to make sure the pages were spidered. The pages have to be in the google index so that it can display ads based on the keywords located on your page.

Haven't gotten rich... I'm using them more hoping to draw the google spiders.

But I like them, they are pretty unobtrusive.

I went ahead and put one up, I don't care about making money so much but I sure like the idea of being spidered. They even had a color scheme that fits my site perfectly, I just added into the footer way down below everything

I will have to wait and see but I am not so sure that it will display what it indexes on google itself. According to the readme it does spider your site for keywords, then it uses those keywords to determin what ads to display on your site.

Don't know, but I pay .05 cents per click for google adwords, and have gotten 401 users the last month, 127 the last week, and about 26 a day now.

For my purposes, it is worth paying .05 per click when it translates to new users. I'd pay a dollar a user if I could get them that way.

Sorry this was off the subject, just thought I'd mention.

I just put it up at my site (which is about marching percussion) and it served these 4 links:

Asian Developing Nations
Endangered Species
Are You a New Dad?
Literacy Cambodia

Hmmmm....All I have to say is, LOL!

That happened on mine too for the first couple of hours but after that it was indexed although it does not display what it spiders in Google, at least from what I have seen so far

Hmmm.... how would I add this to a custompalbox thingy? Has the code for these changed, or am I suffering from a brain fart?
Posted By: JoshPet Re: Ads by google - 10/13/2003 10:08 PM
The non-profit ads are what it puts up when it has not spidered the page and doesn't know what keywords the page contains. With time, when the page is indexed, it will present real ads.

You don't get credit for clicks to the non-profit things.

Do NOT click your own ads or encourage people to click them. Google WILL know. Trust me.

I made 17 cents yesterday for one click! I only have it up on my beta site, so one of my mods must have clicked something.

I just signed up myself. According to the policy, you can't have it served on a search page. At first I thought about putting it in my footer template, but I'm afraid that would violate the policy because it would then be served on the search page as well. Any recomendation on where (which template) to place the code so that it serves on all pages except the search page? Thanks.
Posted By: Anno Re: Ads by google - 02/01/2004 1:07 AM
You could let it check the uri and only display it when it´s not on the search page.
Posted By: Anno Re: Ads by google - 02/01/2004 5:35 AM
Something like this:

$pathinfo = $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'];
if (!eregi("search.php",$pathinfo) {
include("googleadd.php");
}

WOW, you gonna buy everyone lunch? I'm not looking to make a ton off of it (not that I'll send it back if I do ) , but mainly just to possibliy help in search engines ranking, and then add another resource which is targeted for my content which might help in bringing traffic back. But, "Life is like a box of chocolates. Ya never know what you're gonna get."
