The small retailers, non-profits, and eBay merchants that rely on PayPal to keep money flowing across the Internet lost access to millions of dollars when the company’s site shut down over the weekend and continued to malfunction through Monday.
PayPal, which was bought by eBay in 2002, was tight-lipped about the source of the problem and posted bulletins with reassurances of a swift fix. Someone identifying himself as an eBay employee said on an eBay online forum that the rollout of new product enhancements last week may have caused some of the glitches."
