For some reason I looked for an old picture of myself this evening and found out AOL is shutting down their old hometown websites frown I've had that site >12 years now (I go there at least every 2-3 years tipsy )

By November 1, all of those sites are going away and if you have one you need to download it by Oct. 31. Info can be found here:
http://www.peopleconnectionblog.com/2008/09/03/how-to-download-your-hometown-files/

I had to actually install AOL on my computer to pull the files down eek It's been a lot of years since that virus has been on here and yep, it wants to worm itself into everything you do online, all media files, email, etc.

I did spend ~1-2 minutes in a chat room - after 13-14 years people are still doing ASL checks doh

I may have to format the HD before this is over.

True, some disk cleaners have gotten better over the years of getting the cruft off smile

I'm surprised AOL is still around. I can't believe people still use them. It was bad enough when people were using them in the 90s... you'd figure everyone would learn by now.

They blanketed the world with those CD's (wasn't that a joke in one of Stallone's futuristic cop movies?). Handy if you can only get a dial-up account while out of town.

Not so handy once you try to cancel. I've heard many horror stories of people trying to cancel their AOL accounts.

Those are old complaints, I think the FCC made them not so difficult to work with now. smile
