Ever walk through a toy store and reminisce about all of the toys/games you had while growing up?

Here is a chance to relive your youth, and your favorite toys/games. Just post about the memorable distractions of your childhood. I realize that some of you are probably still playing with your toys.

Mine:
I loved the old Mattel LED Electronic Sports games. They had all different sports, Football, Soccer, basketball, Hockey. Initially they were handheld games, where you had to move around a little led blip across the screen to score. Later there were Head-to-head versions, which allowed two players to go versus at the same time. I can still imagine the old football game. Running my little led player from left to right, until you got to the end, then back again from the left. Deeking the defense by moving up and down...then that delightful "duh-din" sound as you cross the goal line.

Pretty much action figures (Star Wars), Hot Wheels, and Tonka construction vehicles. I still collect Star Wars toys though.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action figures! Turtle Power!!! (And not those knock-off "expansion set" figures either... I'm talking about the real true original Turtles figures, with the little red/orange weapons and stuff.)

I played with this toy tractor thing all the time when I was little. It was cool. Games was the Nintendo games (Super Mario) they were in when I was playin em.

I made brownies. *cough*

LEGO was always my favorite toy. I would build huge cities in detail and then I'd be Godzilla.

Dirt... always been a favorite.

Actually it was Crossbows & Catapults. You built this castle wall outta giant lego like things that looked like bricks. Then you had the castle behind it.

The other guy did the same thing, on like your kitchen floor. Then you had actual catapults and ground crossbows(ballista really), that you would fire these disks about the size of a quarter, 1/2 inch thick into the walls and over them. Smacking into everything and shattering your enemies defences.

I also had giants that would fling the things, and a trojan horse... No, really... I don't miss the game.. Really...

You know what bugs me about LEGO's? How kids these days have legos that can do any freaking thing in the world! My little brother has a lego set that is this computer-controlled, programmable robot with like umpteen thousand pieces and motors and gears and cool stuff like that. When I was a kid, we had blocks. 4x2, 2x2, 2x1, et al. Maybe an occasional tree or person or something. But we never would have *dreamed* of the things my brother's most recent acquisition can do.

We call in technology... LEgo Mindstorms eh? I did that for a science fair project last year. They are pretty damn sweet.

No way! I love the football game! They re-did it to modernize it, and I bought it not too long ago.

Skorpion, I know exactly what you are talking about! I've been very jealous of all the kids that have LEGO mindstorm now and that stop animation movie one. Man I would have loved those when I was a kid.

Really all the toys nowadays are awesome. The level of sophistication in many of them is higher than many things we adults buy. It's very easy to look at the toys and feel like we were gypped during our childhood.

Many adults play video games so why should we feel guilty if we went out and bought a Mindstorm set and play with it today?

I went out last summer and bought all the mindstorms and technic stuff i could find. it rocks.

Legos are great. I also was quite fond of Lincoln Logs and Tinkertoys. But my favorite building toys were Erector Sets and Capsela!!!

I'd love to get a Lego Mindstorm kit to play around with, but I was making little mechanical robots long ago

Yeppers, the little plastic bubbles with the motors and stuff. I'm going to have to rummage through my parents basement one of these days. Although I would tend to think they pitched all of my cool stuff while moving around.

I tend to agree with Troy here... you can't beat dirt when you're a little kid. I got a picture of my older brother and I I'll post later when I get to work that you might find amusing

Daisy Red Rider BB Gun

"The Christmas Stpry" was more my dad's era, but the bb guns were still popular when I was a kid

I had Rock'em Sock'em Robots as well as an extensive Weeble collection.

I also had those sports games with the big plastic men, where you would hit them on the helmet, which would cause the leg to kick, which would then kick the ball.

I always spell his name wrong, but remember the "Evil Kenival"(damn I murdered that spelling) motorcycle?

It was the one that was about a foot long, you stuck it on this plastic gear with a crank on it. You would crank that sucker up as fast as you could, hit hte release and POW! off the sucker would fly!

I remember making ramps and stuff, damn I went through a lot of those things. Good fun though!

I had his (SST brand) rocket car. You pulled a ripcord and it would wind the rear wheel up. Let go and off it would fly. I also had his dragster. Same ripcord deal, but it had a cool parachute that would deploy out the back. Man, I had forgotten all about those.

I had a huge honkin' stack of dinky cars... i used to play with them for hours, i made little ramps and launched them everwhere... made a few dents in the walls but it was fun

I also played with the ninja turtles too I had leonardo, raphael, and... the pizza shooter... that's right, the pizza shooter! It looked like a huge tank, you load it with pizzas, turn it on and shoot away.

Apparently I also liked Alpha-Bits

I grew up on what used to be the oilfields of Spindletop, the huge oilfield in the early 1900's that paved the way for Henry Ford and his bunch. We had a tarpit in the next field a bulldozer sank in, so yeah, we stayed dirty most of the time...
