I've owned Pentium's ever since I could remember. From Celeron's to P2's and have worked with P3's for months and just recently tried out a Dell P4 and I am really disappointed. IMO it did not perform as well as the P3. I currently have an HP 900Mhz AMD Duron and I must say I am impressed. Its fast and reliable, I have never had any problems with it thus far.
Whats your opinion on this? What Proccessor do you use/prefer?

i own a p3 800 mhz overclocked to about 1.2 ghz sometimes it will go 1.5 tho. i cant honestly say, the only amd ive worked with is a k6 200 mhz (i think not sure tho). ill most likely go with a amd 1.4 ghz or higher when i decide to build agane

The AMD's are kicking the pentium 3 & 4's ass in all the benchmarks being done.

Check out over at Tom's Hardware for some good reviews and benchmark info

i am running a 1.13 ghz athlone! runs great

AMD just bends Intel over

I remember my first AMD was the K6 266Mhz
then

K6-2 350Mhz
K6-2 450Mhz
K6-III 450Mhz

I used that processor up until the Thunderbirds came out. Then I got my 1Ghz Thunderbird

I have been using it ever since.

Main Machine = AMD Athlon 1.2Ghz (clocked to 1.3)
New Machine = 1Ghz Duron (To 1.1)

You've got to be lying. A 400mhz increase is pushing the boundaries of the truth, but 700 is not even realistic. A motherboard's multiplier and clock freq. settings don't even go that high! smile

Shoot, I got this 386 in the low 2gHz range MJ... and that's without a fan...
Posted By: Matt Jacob Re: AMD vs Pentium 3 & 4 - 09/06/2001 7:48 AM
Man, you should see this old 286 portable I have. It's been running at 1.7ghz for the past week or so, and the main cooling is only a clip-on battery powered fan and a MistyMate sprayer. You've all seen the MistyMate infomercials on TV before, riiiiggghht?

I use a Pentium 3 550mhz. (I think) One of the earliest P3 models that were out. It's pretty good and I prefer it over a Pentium 4. Well i wouldn't mine P4 but I don't mind what processor I run.

I just upgraded my P100 to a Thunderbird 1.4GHz

It's a noticable improvement

Just a thought smile

I personally would NEVER use AMD. You never hear of any software that has to have patches to work with Intel CPUs do you? laugh
Posted By: DJLunacy Re: AMD vs Pentium 3 & 4 - 09/06/2001 6:52 PM
I don't recall ever having to patch any of my software. I remember hearing a few incompatiablities but those are long gone.

You never hear about AMD putting tracking numbers in your CPU and watching what kinds of internet sites you go to, do you? tipsy

Seriously, though, I am a die-hard AMD fan. AMD gets more work done in less time. So even though Intel can run around in more circles per second, AMD can cover more distance. More FPS in Max Payne will be more the result of better efficiency than of "faster" clock speeds. smile

My Celeron II 533 has no problem being overclocked @ 825MHz. smile I am eyeing that AMD 1.4GHz. laugh

can you say, amd = elite?

Nice Adam. That's very similar to the machine I'm assembling for a good friend.

yeah AMD rocks laugh

Sounds like one good computer your gonna build Adam. smile

Actually, they do have to patch the runtime DLLs, to account for all the floating-point errors Intel just can't seem to get their heads round.

Just brought the parts back from the USA to build a system myself:

1.2 Ghz Athalon
266Mhz Front Side BUS mobo *dribble*
768Mb PC-133 SDRAM
40Gb slow harddrive for MP3s / programs
30Gb nice harddrive for programs
10Gb FAST (10,000 RPM!) harddrive for OS
*(all EIDE, btw)
Soundblaster 5.1 Live! Platinum (with the remote control n all)
ATI Radion Pro 64Mb DDR
16x10x40 CD burner
12x40 DVD drive

Unfortunately, I will now be surviving on bread and water for the next 5 years. shocked

*sigh* itchy screwdriver fingers, wanting to start construction... but I need a chassis, and have to attend a crappy birthday party first (my own, as it happens. smile ).

Can anyone suggest a costume for a 60s/70s/80s-themed party, I'm having with someone else later tonight? shocked
