I'm bored so I thought I'd just go on a little a rant. for those of you who don't understand the british schooling system, A Levels are the two year courses you take (normally about 4 subjects) after your compulsary education if you want to go to university.
*stupidly* I decided to do A Level Computing, thinking that it would be fun. oh how very very wrong I was.
Yesterday I was treated to a "fun" lesson about creating webpages! the guy showed us how to create links and everything
so, now I'm off to another computing lesson, mmm pascal! of all the boring, irritating, pointless languages...*going to go insane*

well off I go to hell help smash

bah, pascal can be very good for a learning lanugage. You'll learn quite a few concepts that are easily transferably to other languages such as C

Poor Sally. frown

You could do what one of my friends did... Shout "I DON'T HAVE TO PUT UP WITH THIS, IT'S AN INSULT TO MY INTELLIGENCE, FOR GOD'S SAKE!" at the teacher, walk out of the lesson and go to the pub... eek

In a few computing classes I've had moronic teachers. They sit there explaining for hours and then when they stuff up they start all over again. I finished my course for this year but it was hard to put up with that teacher.

True story...

I went to a private high school. Freshman year they required everyone to take a computer proficiency test which would assign you to a computer class based on your knowledge.

I was assigned to their highest level class which was Microsoft Word. By the second week of that class the teacher was fed up with my making her look stupid by correcting her inaccuracies and showing everyone shortcuts to do what she wanted, but in half the steps. She gave me credit for the class and I was made the teacher aide for "Introduction to Computers."

After a few weeks that teacher would say, " Steve's teaching this lesson today" and she would leave to hang out in the teachers lounge and smoke. By the second semester she stopped showing up entirely and it was essentially my class. By the end of the year all my students had complete knowledge of DOS, Win 3.1, Word, Excel and even had a pretty good introduction to Corel PhotoPaint.

Those who were in the Word class could only show off they knew how to use Word's spell check and headers & footnotes. laugh

At the moment we're learning Decimal, Binary, Octal and Hexadecimal conversions.. Exciting..

Good fun having a play with Visual Basic though.. laugh

Mark's got a good point. Perhaps a better example is when you get a hold of C. Then all the C-derived languages (C++, C#, Perl, PHP, JavaScript, etc.) aren't very hard to pick up.
