Just found this site (ironically, by seeing a web banner for it) that some of you may be interested in. It's a search engine -slash- portal site that has no adverts, at all. No banners, no popups, no flash, no nothing. It's also got email, stocks, news, and many other similar features to Yahoo. Even the basic page design looks similar, imho. Yet it is completely free of ads.

www.myway.com

Sorry if you feel this is spam... I really don't work for them! wink I just found the site and thought you may be interested in a yahoo-killer, for those of you who don't already have one of your own. smile

SO HOW DOES MY WAY MAKE ANY MONEY?

My Way makes money through clearly identified sponsored listings and text links. We also keep our expenses low by partnering with the best and most trusted providers in the business instead of doing everything ourselves.

Does it work? Yes. In fact, we will be profitable in our first month of operation.

Would have been nice if they had spent a little time to do the html right, it's worse than yahoo's and yahoo at least has the ads to blame it on wink

it uses google and open directory for searching...

google homepage: 3489 bytes
myway homepage: 27405 bytes

So since i use no other services other than pure searching google is still the place for me with altavista as a backup (coming in at 10918 bytes).

Honestly tho I think it's google with a few more features (calender, news, email and so on)

It's nice; I doubt they'll be able to last long, but I still hope that they do somehow manage to stay for a while.

Shin, you know you can save Google and Altavista's front pages to your computer, remove all unnecessary parts and load it from there, then it would take 1kb and, ofcourse, would be loaded in the speed of ~600kb/s because it's not from the net...

Ok, ok, maybe it's not as good as I first thought it was. I like it tho, because I liked to read news and a few other things that Yahoo had. Since this is banner-free, it works for me. smile And I played around with it, I like a few other features on the My Page thing too, like custom themes/logos. It is a shame about the html/filesize stuff tho... I suppose every good thing has to have downsides.
