Topic: Photoshop 6 Tutorial: Simplified Grids by Daniel

Simplified Grids

-----------------

Step 1.

Open Photoshop and start with a new document 300 pixels by 300 pixels and 72 resolution with a transparant background.

Step 2.

Now create a seperate new document. Make the new file 5 pixels by 5 pixels and leave everything else the same.

Step 3.

Zoom in at 1600% on the second document. Select the Rectangular Marquee Tool on the tool bar and create a vertical bar 1 pixel wide and 5 pixels tall. Now Fill the vertical bar with any colour you want the grid to be.

Step 4.

With the Rectangular Marquee Tool, create a horizontal bar 5 pixels wide and 1 pixel tall. Fill that with the same colour. Deselect everything.

Step 5.

Edit > Define Pattern

Name it Grid 1.

Step 6.

Select the area on the first document where you would like the grid to be with the Magic Wand Tool.

Now go to Layer > New > Layer and name it Grid

Step 7.

Click on the fill button on the toolbar. Now on the top toolbar, choose Pattern, instead of Foreground. In the dropdown menu beside Pattern, choose the Grid pattern you made earlier.

Step 8.

Now fill the area you have selected by clicking in it.

Other Comments.

Feel free to change up parts of this to have more customized grids. Play with the opacity on the Layers Palette to give the grid a faded effect. Make the grid sizes different or experiment with 2 colours to give it a 3d-like affect. Basically just play with it.
