Signature Image Tutorial, Photoshop 5.0+ by squage

Program: Adobe Photoshop 5.0+
Time Required: 3-5 Minutes
Difficulty: Easy-Moderate
Note: When I use measurements, I will be using pixels, not inches

Step 1
------------
Make the new document size 88x31.

Step 2
------------
Use this tool:  to draw up the transparent part of your image. what you draw will be cut out and made transparent, so choose wisely. Once you have selected it, you're should hit CTRL-SHIFT-I to inverse the selection. Now go to the layer menu at the top, and select "new layer via copy". Good, you're halfway done!

Step 3
------------
You want your image to look something like this:

If it doesn't, go back and try again.

Step 4
------------
Hold CTRL and click the the layer you just made. The layer should look selected, like in the previous image. now you can fill it with a gradient, or a solid color, or whatever you want. To make it "pop out at you", right click on the layer and select "layer effects". Do an inner bevel with a bevel of about 1-2 and a shadow of 2-3. Cool!
This is what I got:

Step 5
------------
You're going to want to add sharp-lookin text to your button.
--use a font that is clear (such as arial or verdana or silkscreen expanded).
--set the font size to somewhere around 8-14 points (it must be small)
--if using photoshop, turn text anti-aliasing off. This will make the text more visible.
To stroke it, just right the text layer, and choose "render type". Now stroke it with 1 pixel on the outside. Sharp, eh?

Step 6
------------
SAVING IT: Go to image>>mode>>indexed color... and click ok. Now go to file>>export>>GIF89a export... in the export dialogue, click the background to make it transparent when you save. Then click ok to save the new image, transparency and all.
