Took some tracking down, but I think I found what you need.
AFAIK, this stuff starts at line 750 of
ubb_lib_posting.cgi. All the images you're talking about have two coded spaces in front of them ("&_nbsp;", without the underscore). All you should have to do is remove all the space codes from in front of the images. Reupload in ASCII, then refresh your cache.
