After a closer look... looks like the Mod works with simple pixel-coordinates. The user has to place a pin on one of the available maps. So just the name of the map and x/y is stored in his profile.
That's just my guess, because you can't see any pins on the "Northamerica"-map, but eight on the "USA"-map. If it would work with longitude and latitude the pins could be displayed on every map that covers several smaller extracts.
I would prefer longitude and latitude - but anyway, a very nice mod!
