Hello newbie here. Working on installing the free UBB version on my site. Right now I am waiting on my webhost to give the UltBB.setup file write permissions.
I was wondering if I was going to run into any trouble because I used Frontpage 98 to upload the files to my site, instead of FTP.
Can someone tell me if Front page uses ASCII mode ?
Sorry if this has been asked before, I searched the board trying to find the answer without askiing, but didn't see it being asked.
Well off to look at the free bb section and see whats availble. Any ideas of which hack I should try first ?

NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER USE FRONTPAGE TO VIEW, ALTER, OR UPLOAD TO ANY DIRECTORY USED BY A CGI SCRIPT, INCLUDING THE UBB. Failure to do so will cause us to point and snicker. *L*

Use an FTP client.

Charles I don't have FTP and I have my web hosting set up only for Frontpage. So far so good. I have it up and running and have applied some hacks to it. So I quess it does upload in the right format.
Also I have a shopping cart done with cgi script, all done in FP [Linked Image]

Sooner or later you will have problems.
I have been thru the live and learn.
When you do have problems which sooner or later you will it will be hell taking it out of FP because it will want to delete your directories.
You should be able to FTP to your site.
If you can't you will not be able to backup your forums.
I know some and only some sites using NT and FP2000 (not fp97 or fp98)have been able to maintain a site but it would be best not.

Please don't use frontpage! You will only have problems later. I think your ISP does support FTP (since FP uses FTP).

You may want to seriously consider upgrading to FP2000 and set it to edit all .cgi, .pl, and .txt files in some other program like ultraedit or textpad.
I use fp2k for most of my sites... and really they do not look like FrontPage template sites. It is good for site management (broken links, moving directories/files around) and general html. I use ultraedit for .asp/.cgi/.pl/.txt files. I open my site up in fp, click on a ubb file, it opens in ue, I edit it, and it saves back to the site in ascii.
When uploading whole new versions of ubb, or more than a few .cgi files, I use ws_ftp.
Anyway...fp2k is a viable program for general html/site management work, I am not sure about fp98.
