Hi everyone,

I was wondering if any of you have tired running UBB locally. Like on your computer to test out your MODs and have full control over your own server.

I have been trying to to this but someone told me there is no way to CHMOD your files so that you can have UBB run correctly.

Is there a server that I can run on windows 95/98/ME and have me be able to connect through FTP or locally and CHMOD them correctly?

This would so help me out, thanks!

You don't need to set permissions on your windows system. Just move them to the proper web server directories.

Well ,I have done that and it still doesn't work. Can you please tel lme which server you are using that allows you to jus drag the files in the proper dir. rather then having to CHMOD them.

double click on 'my computer' on your desktop

you can drag things there.

also you need to know what server you have setup and how it is setup. Server root dir, if perl is enabled, etc.
without knowing these you can't really be helped.

I know how to drag files and where to drag them. For Example: I set the root for all my web files to Www on my desktop. That means in the webserver i am using which I have tried a bunch I would set this folder as the ROOT and then I would but a cgi-bin folder in that Www folder and in the server i would set that as the main cgi-bin. Now once I have done that I try to run the cgi but it doesn't work correctly.

Perl is enabled and I would point the perl (*.cgi/*.pl) to C:perlperl.exe which is the default setting for all the servers.

Now my orginal question was done "Anyone know of a SERVER program that I can run CGI and be able to CHMOD them so I can have my scripts run correct." I beleive the main problem is that I can't WRITE to the setup files and directories. That's why I need to know about a server that will be able to CHMOD these files.

Thank you ...

There is no reason to CHMOD files offline. I have 3 UBBs setup offline that I run from perl.

chmod is an unix command [Linked Image] if you have a dual boot system with linux you can use chmod [Linked Image]

in Win NT, you give a folder rights to run scripts... under win9x you do that inside the server programs...

if you are using apache as a web server you have to write the exact perl path to the top of the files, most of the server progs dont need that...

I'm currently using xitami to test scripts and pages [Linked Image]

Yea, I found my answer on a different thread under this area. I got some help from Twenty7 for the CGI, and now everything is working great. I can now work on my UB without hogging the phone line [Linked Image].

Thanks for all the help you guys have given![Linked Image]
