I have an information file that looks like this:

Code
code:

It is the information file for my photo albums. My problem is that when I add a new one with the program I wrote, it adds it to the bottom of the file. I would like the new ones to be added to the top of the file. How do I do this?

You would have to read the entire file, write the new line, and then append the rest of the lines.

Why does it need to insert at the beginning of the file? What does that matter? It's just as easy to get at the last element in the file, as the first.

Perl doesn't care, so there's no reason why your storage file should need to be in a particular order from a human perspective.

I would like the newest albums to be at the top of the html page generated by my script. The way I have it now is it takes each line and makes a link, from top to bottom. But I would like it to sort them the other way. How can I get it to sort from newest to oldest instead of oldest to newest?

Thanks Mark, I just figured it out before I read your post. BTW could you explain the "my" at the beginning? I didn't use that and it works fine for me.

The my is for proper programming, under the use strictl pragma. It's a way to declare, and set the scope for your variables.

you don't need to worry about it since you aren't prorgamming like that for the rest of your script
