Is it possible to use the SS Include to execute a CGI script that resides on another server? For example say the page in question was located at http://www.myserver.com/page.shtml and it contained the SSI tag Would this work?

The reason i ask is because my ubb is set up on a IIS server that, due to it not being unix/linux, does not have sendmail and doesnt have SMTP mail facilities either. But i would like to set up a mailing list/feedback system on the site and would need the email facilities for these to work.

So what i was thinking is that maybe i could install the scripts on a unix/linux based server and simply include them using SSI. Providing thats possible that is.

technically, this is a server-side issue, but since the script at hand is CGI, I'm moving this to the CGI forums. Forgive me if I'm wrong in doing this.

? Empire, it is an SSI issue. There is no specific CGI program in question, just the way to use SSI to call it on his server.

Well actually the server id be using the SSI commands on runs on IIS on windows, the scripts run on Apache/linux though cos i need their sendmail facilities....

Ill have a try with anyway and see what happens.....

Nope, no joy. Got an "Error processing SSI file '/http:/www.myhost.com/cgi/hello.cgi'" message this time.

So you are using 2 seperate servers? Try include file.

I don't think you can use a URL for path with include virtual. i think you have to link to the virtual location.

Syntax: include file|virtual="path"

The include directive inserts the text of another document, specified either as a file or a virtual file. Path must be relative to the current document in the case of a file, or it can be a virtual path. For example:

I think im just gonna cheat and put the page within a frame.... Sometimes i make life too difficult for myself...

Plus im using a silly amount of SSI calls on teh site as it is, i think my server would appreciate the break. [Linked Image]
