I really am not sure if this is the correct forum for this, and I know that this is probably a very basic question for everyone but... I just got my ubb board up and running about a month ago. I was wondering though, I noticed how most sites protect their cgi files somehow so that people cannot just access them by typing the file name in. How would I go about doing this? I am really sorry but I dont know what type of information I have to give to you so that you would be able to help me Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Two ways to do this: 1) Server based password (e.g., http://pkcompendium.hypermart.net/cgi-bin). On UNIX, you would use a .htaccess file. On Windows, you would need to specify this in the IIS settings somewhere. 2) Put password protection right into script whereas authentication would have to be done before a user is allowed to proceed. Hope this helps. qasic

Thanks for the quick response! Is the htaccess easier than adding to the scripts? If I added to the scripts do I have to do it to each and every file? Sorry one more question...is there any site that may help me do this stuff? I liked the way how that link asked for a password and stuff Thanks!

Server based protection would be the thing I recommend. Setting up a protected .htaccess isn't that hard - Apache has some docs on it: http://httpd.apache.org/docs/misc/FAQ.html#user-authentication Should get you started. I know there's some instructions here (on UBBDev) to set up .htaccess too, so you may want to search here as well. qasic
