Simple Question, maybe simple solution?
Easy situation, I code and test ubb hacks on my local machine (only accesible by 127.0.0.1) I was using IIS which wasn't a problem because it knew where the perl interpreter was.
Now I'm moving onto Apache on my local machine so I can hopefully use SSI etc properly, and to have the server environment as close to the live server as possible (unix/apache etc)
Installed apache fine, got it all set up, problem is Apache will only process the cgi/pl stuff if the shebang is #!/Perl/bin/perl.exe The live one is quite obviously #!/usr/bin/perl
So is there anyway that I can make it so that I dont need to change the shebang when I make the code live?
Cheers
Ben

iirc there is an option in the apache config file to use registry entries to determine what to run scripts with, so if you enable that then make sure .pl and .cgi are associated with perl.exe it will work with the #!/usr/bin/perl shebang. sorry its light on exact wording but its been a while since i configed apache

Maybe just add a symbolic link from
/Perl/bin/perl.exe --> /usr/bin/perl
I can't afford a good signature editor

I've found the info regarding this, but it doesn't seem to work! I dont know if they removed it or changed it in the latest version of apache, maybe I should go back to one of the 1.x versions.

I saw this and wondered why I didn't think of this, then realised I did, problem is I dont have root access on the live server, its on a shared hosting server so thats a no go
Anyone know if you can get Apache2 to look up in the registry? I dont see why it was removed, and I dont see any docs either on that part.

Hmmm
When I installed Perl and Apache on my own server (locally) I installed Perl to the same directory as Apache was in.
My shebang is "normal".
Don't know if that makes a difference, but maybe

You can safely copy the Perl.exe file from /perl/bin to /usr/bin - it still works fine, thus your solution.
No need to move Perl or install in /usr or anything nutty like that.
