Which one is easyer? and were can i learn that is made for extream newbies?

ASP *seems* easier, but the code is messy and limited in functionality. Go with PHP.

I used to like ASP alot, but once I started using PHP I've forgotten all that ASP...

Although the code may be cleaner, ASP is more widely supported sense it's backed by Microsoft. People just learning dynamic languages for the first time will find the learning cure for ASP much easier that PHP and with that said, the transition to PHP would be much easier. I would compare this to crawling first before you walk.

Also WYSIWYG editors such as Ultradev from Macromedia already allow people to create dynamic sites easily in asp. People for the first time can create dynamic sites, see and learn from the code without sacrificing production time.

DUDE GO WITH ASP!!! besides ASP hosts are cheaper.

Ugh, DON'T.

First off all, as DOD-THE-KAHN said, it's by microsoft. Meaning you'll get a new version about every 5 years .

Believe me, I used to do program in ASP, and now I *hate* it. (Though I still use it for SF).
For one thing, what does 'Exception occurred' mean, in a simple IF STATEMENT!!!

Also, ASP+, the next 'version' of ASP, is coming out in about a year. It's almost like ColdFusion! Ugh.

So with that in mind.. I say (from what I've seen elsewhere) go with PHP.

The analogy of learn to crawl before you walk doesn't really work here.. Its like Programming.. A lot of people start off with Visual Basic (Microsoft), and think that they will work there way up to Delphi (the superior product), but instead, they get stuck in B forever..

Anyway, as for hosts.. Almost EVERY Unix based server is now offering PHP/MySQL support at no additional cost. Also, there are Free Servers that offer it as well.. You wont find a Free ASP server since ASP can only be run on NT backed servers, and i haven't seen any free NT servers.

As for coding.. i don't know ASP at all, but i do know that PHP is pretty easy to understand. Its very similar to Perl.

Also, there are a lot more PHP resources out there... for scripts, communities, snippets, etc... Its a bit harder to find good ASP resource sites.

Anyway, I Recommend PHP...

That's not true Yes, a LOT of web hosts are offering PHP and MySQL, but not "most".

My webhost is one of the top web hosts on the net, and has been for a few years (www.web2010.com). They only offer PHP and MySQL for the Premiere Hosting package. The two lower ones don't have it available.

My friend's host (AWC) who he has been with for almost 5 years, doesn't offer either, at all.

A new survey just published, showing Apache modules installed, shows that mod_php is installed in about 36% of the machines surveyed. mod_perl (which is different than Perl... Perl itself *is* installed on practically every server...) is running at 11.5%, which is a shame that it's that low, but has been starting to gain some ground lately.

Ok, so i didnt know the actual stats of PHP installs, I was going by my personal oberservation of hosts that ive seen. (Mostly new hosts) that seem to almost all offer PHP with MySql. Altho, i dont understand why they would want to charge More for packages with php.

By looking at these stats in that link above, It seems that 57.97% of servers run Apache, and of that, 36.43% of those run PHP.
Thats Pretty Good. considering, there are alot of crappy servers out there that dont offer anything.

So, if i were faced with the question of which language to start with, I'd go PHP.

Regardless of how many hosts support PHP/MySQL, the point is that finding a host that supports ASP is virtually impossible. I know cihost.com does (not free), but I cannot think of any other off the top of my head.

Actually there are more hosts that support ASP than you'd think. www.brinkster.com, www.websamba.com, to name a few.

WebHostMe hasn't been accepting new members for about a year... they tried to 'upgrade' their servers to Win2000 and I guess they abandoned it.
My account there doesn't work anymore, all kinds of component errors and stuff. If you could get an account and don't need any components (i.e. filesystem, database...) they might work, but...
